iOS 8.1 beta reveals new details about upcoming Apple devices

Apple is reportedly working on three major iOS 8.x updates, including iOS 8.1, iOS 8.2 and iOS 8.3, with the first beta of iOS 8.1 having already been released to developers. In it, developer Hamza Sood found proof that Apple’s upcoming new iPad will include a Touch ID fingerprint sensor embedded in the Home button, and that owners will be able to use it to authenticate Apple Pay payments. Apple releases iOS 8.1 beta to developers, change log here

Apple has just seeded iOS 8.1 to developers. This makes one of the fastest iOS x.1 releases ever — normally the first beta is released a couple months after the new version of iOS ships. It could have to do with an much more aggressive software release schedule and the fact that Apple not only has the upcoming Apple Pay update, but most likely a software update for the company’s new iPads, and another one early next year to support Apple Watch. One of the most sought-after features for iOS 8 was transit directions in the Maps app, a feature Apple removed when it switched from Google Maps to its own home-grown mapping solution. But last Monday, Apple did not announce transit directions during its annual World Wide Developers Conference.
