iOS 4.3.1 jailbreak ready for primetime; no iPad 2 support [video]

Considering the Dev Team had an iOS 4.3 jailbreak ready and waiting long before Apple pushed out iOS 4.3.1, the 10-day wait for an untethered jailbreak seems like an uncharacteristically long amount of time for our favorite iPhone hackers. Regardless, the day is upon us and PwnageTool for iOS 4.3.1 is now available for download. The new version supports the iPhone 4 (GSM only), iPhone 3GS, first-generation iPad, second-generation Apple TV and the third and fourth-generation iPad touch models. The iPad 2 is not currently supported. The new build also lacks support for Verizon Wireless’ iPhone 4 since iOS 4.3.1 is not yet available for the device. The DevTeam notes that those with unlocked devices should wait, as ultrasn0w has not yet been updated. More →

Tethered iOS 4.3.1 jailbreak now available

Tethered iOS 4.3.1 jailbreak now available

Apple released the latest version of its mobile operating system last Friday and within 24 hours, a tethered jailbreak method became available to the public. This should hardly be unexpected, as the Dev Team had said it would wait for iOS 4.3.1 before releasing a jailbreak solution for iOS 4.3 in order to avoid having Apple fix the latest security hole the Dev Team planned to exploit. A “tethered” jailbreak affords users the same ability to customize iOS as the standard jailbreak, but it requires that the device be tethered to a computer in order to boot. An untethered jailbreak is not advisable for most users and the wait for an untethered solution won’t be long, so we definitely recommend waiting a few days before jailbreaking your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch. Sit tight — we all know how fast the Dev Team works. More →

Apple iOS 4.3.1 now available for download in iTunes

Just as we reported, Apple’s latest mobile OS release, iOS 4.3.1 is now available for download for the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. Bad news for Verizon iPhone users, unfortunately — you’re still stuck with 4.2.6. The rest of you should hit iTunes to update your devices and let us know about anything new you come across, alright?

Apple iOS 4.3.1 hands-on!

Apple iOS 4.3.1 hands-on!

One of our Apple connects just installed the unreleased and unseen iOS 4.3.1 build on one of our iPhones, and we’ve been playing around with it for a couple days. We reported the changes from iOS 4.3 a few days back, and it really does look as if iOS 4.3.1 will simply fix bugs, hence the version numbering. Battery life seems a tad bit better, though that’s not scientific at all. Our source says we should continue to expect iOS 4.3.1 in the next 1-2 weeks, just as we previously reported.
