HTC Footprints makes its way into cooked ROMs and Manila2D

HTC Footprints

Courtesy of the folks over at xda-developers, those sporting a variant of the HTC Touch who have a penchant for flashing ROMs can now try out HTC’s new geo-tagging Footprints feature. A new Beta ROM from NFSFAN includes a version of Manila2D with Footprints and is available for Alltel, Bell Mobility, Sprint and Verizon Wireless Touch handsets. If you don’t have a Touch and want to try out HTC Footprints, herg62123 et al has released a new version of the standalone Manila2D – a sweet Iolite version that features a Footprints tab. As always exercise caution when flashing but if you do take the plunge, boast about your success in the comments so we can all be green with envy

O2 XDA Guide makes it debut for the camera

O2 XDA Guide

Announced back in December, the O2 XDA Guide finally got up close personal in photographs. The Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional handset will replace Germany’s current O2 XDA Orbit 2. Based upon the HTC Iolite, the XDA Guide has the following features:

  • 528MHz Qualcomm MSM 7225 CPU
  • 256 MB RAM/512 MB ROM
  • 2.8″ QVGA touchscreen
  • 3.2 megapixel fixed focus camera
  • microSD expansion
  • Quadband GSM/GPRS/EDGE
  • Dualband UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA
  • Bluetooth 2.0+EDR
  • WiFi b/g
  • aGPS

The XDA Guide will run the plain Jane TouchFLO 2D instead of the fancier TouchFLO 3D interface. Part of this UI is a new feature called Footprints that launches via a dedicated button and brings geo-tagging support to the phone’s camera. O2 Germany will ship the XDA Guide with Tom Tom Navigator 7 which will launch via the dedicated front facing compass button. The O2 XDA Guide is planned for a mid-February release. HTC Iolite gets outed by retailer

HTC Iolite gets outed by retailer

We’re not sure which is worse – the infamous blurry-cam leak or the tiny-pic leak. Neither affords much in the way of a satisfying visual aid but hey, something is better than nothing. This time around, HTC’s upcoming “Iolite” is getting the tiny-pic treatment courtesy of Expansys UK and though no release date or pricing info are listed, the mobile retailer is already making the handset available for pre-order. Judging by the specs listed on the product page, the Iolite is yet another Windows Mobile-powered touchscreen handset that offers little in terms of innovation or even evolution. We’ll have to wait for official word from HTC however before jumping to conclusions. In the meantime, we can all hope that the retailer omitted some stunning details that will make us a bit more excited. Until then, hit the jump for the full specs as listed by Expansys.
