This multi-million dollar crowdfunding fail sounds like the plot for a bad movie

The following story isn’t a script for a bad Hangover sequel, though Hollywood should definitely adapt it for the big screen.

Remember that incredibly cool motorbike helmet that took Indiegogo by storm exactly two years ago? The Skully AR-1 was supposed to be the coolest bike helmet ever, featuring an advanced heads up display complete with augmented reality (AR) elements. The company secured almost $2.5 million in funding via Indiegogo and an additional $11 million from investors after that.

Where did that money go? Among other things, it paid for expensive cars and trips to hot destinations, but also for personal expenses including rent, limos and strip club attractions. More →

Indiegogo Crowdfunding Scams

Indiegogo is trying to make itself suck less

Indiegogo is trying to make itself suck less

Indiegogo is the lesser-known cousin of Kickstarter, and it has something of a bad reputation for harboring particularly unrealistic crowdfunding campaigns (Lazer Razor, anyone?).

To try to give people more confidence in some campaigns, Indiegogo has partnered with Arrow Electronics, a design and production firm. As reported by TechCrunch, Indiegogo campaigns will get access to expertise to help with the manufacturing and prototyping, and get an official stamp of approval from Indiegogo to help lure in backers.

Meet Sirius B, an iPhone 6s-sized Windows 10 PC that might replace your desktop

Windows PC sticks are getting more and more popular and many companies are coming up with bold designs for smartphone-sized Windows 10 computers that can replace your desktop for a fraction of the cost. While these machines might not be able to offer the kind of performance a “pro” desktop or laptop have to offer, they’re still able to meet the needs of regular consumers looking for a portable, affordable PC.

That’s what the Ockel Sirius B project is proposing: A highly compact Intel-based computer that’s currently taking Indiegogo by storm.

There’s no way this ‘dream’ Android phone on IndieGoGo is legit

When it comes to smartphone design, there are always compromises. If you want a high-resolution camera with OIS technology, you may have to put up with an unsightly camera bump. If you want a device with a big battery, you won’t get the lightest and slimmest device around. However, one IndieGoGo project is aiming to show that it can get around all these compromises… and we have a very hard time buying into its legitimacy. More →
