HTC Droid Incredible giveaway winners: Part 2!

HTC-Droid-Incredible-13

Our second and final HTC Droid Incredible contest saw so many hopefuls send in pics of their horribly dilapidated hardware that we had to take a break to down a stiff drink or two during the evaluation process. But in the end, we regained our composure long enough to pick three winners. So let’s have a round of applause for Jody P., Mark V., and Nick M.! We’re pretty bummed out we couldn’t pick more people because there were so many great entries to choose from, but fear not: Your pals at BGR are already planning the next giveaway.

HTC Droid Incredible disappears from Verizon's website (Updated)

HTC Droid Incredible disappears from Verizon's website (Updated)

droid-incredible-sold-out

We’re not too sure what’s going on here, but all of a sudden finding a HTC Droid Incredible for sale has become virtually impossible. No longer proudly on display on Verizon’s homepage, the only way to find the phone is to do a manual search for it. It’s still listed as available for sale, but clicking on the “buy” button redirects to a page which screams in bold letters that “the selection you made is unavailable at this time.” Verizon Wireless CEO Lowell McAdam recently bemoaned that his company was unable to keep the device in stock thanks in part to a shortage of AMOLED displays from Samsung. But still…pulling the phone from the website because it’s sold out? That’s just strange.

Anything you want to tell us, Verizon?

UPDATE: According to Verizon, this is all just one big misunderstanding. Verizon is now giving away free 2GB microSD cards with the sale of each Droid Incredible. Because of this, the order number on the website had to be changed. This didn’t happen right away thus explaining perceived lack of availability.

Verizon unable to keep Droid Incredible in stock due to part shortages

Verizon unable to keep Droid Incredible in stock due to part shortages

HTC-Droid-Incredible-13

An inadequate supply of parts is partly to blame for widespread shortages of Droid Incredible, Verizon Wireless CEO Lowell McAdam said on Friday. Having been unable to stockpile enough key components such as the WVGA capacitive display assemblies manufactured by Samsung, entire shipments of the HTC-made Android smartphone are selling out within hours of their arrival at retail stores. According to McAdam, the shortage is so dire that his company “had to pull way back” on deliveries in order to focus on online sales. Had there not been such a dearth of handsets available, McAdam said the Incredible would have outsold its predecessor, the Motorola DROID; some 100,000 units of the Incredible were sold during the first two days of sale. As of this morning, Verizon’s website claims that orders for the Incredible will be fulfilled by June 3rd. droid-incredible-sold-out-vzw

In the real world, the early bird catches the worm..and in the world of mobile technology, the early bird gets the phone. Such is the case with the highly anticipated HTC DROID Incredible, which debuted early this morning on Verizon Wireless’ website, and sold out within two hours. We don’t know how many units Verizon Wireless had on hand, but the initial inventory is long gone, and all new orders will not ship until May 4th. If you absolutely must have Android’s latest and greatest handset, you will have to try your luck at your local Verizon Wireless store. Happy hunting!

Thanks, VZW!

HTC Droid Incredible for Verizon Wireless review

HTC-Droid-Incredible-10

Is it a coincidence Verizon Wireless has consecutively had the last two most-anticipated Android handsets? With the Motorola DROID seemingly feeling like old news (Google even basically castrated it themselves with a promise of an unbranded, Verizon-compatible Nexus One), the HTC Droid Incredible picks up where Motorola left off in almost every area. We’ve got a much thinner and more refined product that features an 8 megapixel camera, tons of memory, and HTC’s Sense UI which takes care of most of Android’s shortcomings. We know that by now you are asking yourself only one question: “Is the HTC Incredible actually incredible?” We would love to answer that for you. More →

We know that for many of you April 29th can’t come soon enough, so here’s a quick YouTube video overview of the HTC Droid Incredible to tide you over. Shot the other day during the 99% Conference in New York City, the video is a wee bit out of focus, but still manages to give you a good look at some of the features and overall speed of the very well-equipped smartphone. We’ve got a feeling this is just the first of many videos we’ll see of the Droid Incredible before it officially goes on sale, but for now, hit the jump to check out the best we’ve got.

HTC-Droid-Incredible

Finally, it’s official: the much-awaited HTC Droid Incredible will be hitting Verizon Wireless on April 29th for $199 with two year agreement, as had been previously reported. With mind-numbing specs like a 1GHz processor, Android 2.1, an 8 megapixel camera, Wi-Fi, HTC’s Sense UI and a lot more, we have a feeling this is going to run pretty darn well on Verizon’s network. HTC DROID Incredible to retail for $599.99?

HTC DROID Incredible to retail for $599.99?

Verizon-HTC-Droid-Incredible-pricing

If this leaked image of Best Buy’s inventory system is correct, the HTC DROID Incredible’s full retail price has been set at $599.99. No doubt a daunting price to some, we’re actually of the mindset that it’s a very fair price considering what it gets you is a very well equipped smartphone with a 3.7″ WVGA OLED display, 8 megapixel camera, 1GHz processor, 512MB of ROM and RAM and Android 2.1 coupled with HTC’s Sense UI. Throw in the typical Verizon subsidies offered along with a 2-year voice and data contract and we’re saying you won’t see this sucker top $199.99. That is provided no one gets greedy. You like? About those upcoming Verizon phones…

About those upcoming Verizon phones…

verizon-devices

We haven’t been able to independently verify this in any way, but nonetheless we thought we’d share it with everyone as it makes a lot of sense. One our of Verizon connects hit us up last night and let us know what they’ve heard are five of the six upcoming handsets VZW was teasing about yesterday: the HTC Incredible, LG VS750, Microsoft’s “Pure” and “Turtle” and the Samsung Reality. As we mentioned, our connect isn’t sure what the sixth is, but we’re guessing it could be either the BlackBerry Bold 9650 or even Verizon’s Google Nexus One. Anyone hear otherwise?

Thanks, VZW!
