Sony: Over 5.5 million copies of Gran Turismo 5 sold so far

Sony announced Friday that it has sold over 5.5 million copies of Gran Turismo 5 in the game’s first 12 days of availability. Sony also announced that its total sales for the Gran Turismo franchise have surpassed 60 million units worldwide. The highly anticipated GT5 game for Sony’s PlayStation 3 is the ninth installment in the wildly successful racing series, offering over 1,000 different karts and cars that are a stunning likeness to the actual vehicles they are modeled after. The game also features a redesigned physics engine for more realistic steering during gameplay.

In the week ending December 4th, GT5 was the No. 3 best-selling game in the world according to VGChartz, behind Monster Hunter Freedom 3 (PSP) and Wii Sports (Wii). Sony’s press release can be found after the break. More →
