Here’s how Samsung knows it’s really hit the big time — it has the infamous knockoff artists at Goophone blatantly ripping off its devices. Nowhereelse.fr points out that Goophone has released a new device known as the Goophone N3 FHD that bears a striking resemblance to the Samsung Galaxy Note 3, right down to the fake leather casing. The newest and biggest Goophone comes in black, white or pink and features a 5.7-inch display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, a quad-core 1.5Ghz processor, 1GB of RAM, a 5-megapixel camera, a 2,800mAh battery and Android 4.2 Jelly Bean.
Perhaps Goophone should stick to ripping off Apple instead of trying to design things from scratch. GizmoChina has posted a hands-on video showing us Goophone’s first effort at making its own smartwatch and its one contribution to history may be to show that it is actually possible to design a smartwatch worse than the Galaxy Gear. The device’s body is a clunky-looking square that’s attached to a comically wide wristband that makes the device look like it was designed by Dr. Smith as a birthday gift for Robby the Robot. Goophone’s engineering wizards also thought it would be a good idea to install an overlay of Windows 8’s Metro screen as the main user interface even though the device runs on Android. More →
Not to be outdone by its slightly more successful rival, Goophone returns to the market once again with the gold Goophone i5S, a shameless, Android-powered iPhone 5s knockoff complete with a new home button that looks startlingly similar to Apple’s fingerprint scanner… but that definitely isn’t. According to GizChina, Goophone has finally started shipping i5S models in some capacity, which already appear to be out of stock on Goophone’s website. No word yet on whether the gold Goophone sold out as quickly as the gold iPhone 5s, but the Goophone i5C is still available for smartphone buyers that need a Goophone right away. More →
Apple may have trouble making headway into China with its budget iPhone as long as the knockoff artists at GooPhone are on the prowl. GizChina reports that GooPhone — which has already brought the world gems such as the GooPhone i5 and the GooPad mini — is planning to release a new budget device called the Goophone 5C in September that will sell for just $99. The makers of the GooPhone I5 seem to be back and this time they’re ripping off Apple’s (AAPL) new smaller tablet. According to GizmoChina, Chinese Apple knockoff company GooPhone has already announced plans to sell the GooPad mini, a new eight-inch tablet that bears a striking resemblance to the just-announced iPad mini. The new tablet will feature a 1024 x 768 pixel display, a 1.4GHz dual-core processor, a 2 megapixel rear camera and Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. Best of all, the GooPad mini will reportedly sell for just $99 and will be released sometime in November. GizmoChina’s promotional video for the new tablet is posted below. More →
