Sales of Apple’s iPad 2 tablet are set to explode in the third quarter according to Hong Kong-based research firm CLSA. Citing LCD sales data from DisplaySearch, the firm thinks Apple will unload 14.4 million iPad 2 tablets in the third quarter this year, well above the consensus of between 10 and 12 million units. But nothing is set in stone and Apple has widely missed iPad sales estimates in the past, though those misses were due largely to supply constraints. “Keep in mind that AAPL has missed iPad consensus in 2 out of the last 3 quarters, even when supply chain forecasts were higher,” the firm’s note warns. If CLSA’s research is accurate, we can also expect Apple to launch a 4G LTE-compatible iPad model ahead of the holidays this year.
In a statement earlier this week, Samsung announced that global sales of its popular Galaxy S line of Android phones have reached 9.3 million units. Samsung also stated that sales in its home country of South Korea have topped the 2 million mark, making the Galaxy S more popular than Apple’s iPhone, which has sold roughly 1.8 million units to date. Samsung announced in October that Galaxy S sales had surpassed 7 million units worldwide, and it said sales would reach 10 million units before the year was out. Samsung may end up falling just short of its projections, but the Galaxy S is still wildly successful — in fact, it’s the most popular Android line in the world right now. Samsung stated earlier this month that it had sold over 1 million Galaxy Tab units as of the end of November, making its first Android tablet a success as well. More →

In the week ending December 4th, GT5 was the No. 3 best-selling game in the world according to VGChartz, behind Monster Hunter Freedom 3 (PSP) and Wii Sports (Wii). Sony’s press release can be found after the break. More →
Less than two months after the Galaxy Tab first became available, Samsung announced that global sales of its Android tablet have surpassed the 1 million mark. The South Korea-based company has increased its 2010 sales projections to 1.5 million units as a result.
