RIM eyes social gaming with Scoreloop buy

As Research In Motion continues on its quest to recapture consumers’ hearts, minds and wallets, the Canadian BlackBerry maker on Tuesday announced its acquisition of Scoreloop. California-based Scoreloop is a self-professed pioneer in mobile social gaming. According to a post on RIM’s Inside BlackBerry developer blog, the team at Scoreloop is “bringing their expertise in creating social and collaborative gaming toolkits for mobile developers to the BlackBerry platform.” Scoreloop had previously developed tools that supported cross-platform social gaming, and the company says it will continue to support cross-platform solutions following the its transition to RIM, though it will focus mainly on RIM’s QNX-based operating system. Harbor Master updated with Game Center support, rewind option

Imangi Studios’ popular Harbor Master game for the iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad has been updated with a couple of noteworthy features. Harbor Master version 2.1 adds Game Center support, the option to compete with friends on 10 leaderboards, and 38 new achievements. Imangi also added a new option to rewind once per game. That means you’ll be able to step back in the game after someone bumps into your on the subway and causes you to crash your tanker. We’ve been playing this game since it launched, and the goal is to navigate your ships into the appropriate harbor color across seven different maps. Version 2.1 is available immediately for $1.99 in the iTunes App Store. More →

NBA Jam updated with current roster; Legendary Wars adds Game Center, more

It’s Friday, so kick back and catch up on your gaming. Two popular iOS titles, NBA Jam and Legendary Wars, were recently updated with some noteworthy features. NBA Jam picked up a new roster feature which provides more current rosters for teams like the Knicks, Nets, and others. This will allow you to dunk with Carmelo Anthony and Chauncey Billups on the Knicks or Deron Williams on the Nets, for example. It’s not the multiplayer update we’ve been waiting for, but we dig being able to play as recently traded characters. Next up: Legendary Wars has been updated with a host of new features, including Retina display support, 50 Game Center achievements, 5 Leaderboards for Endless Modes, a new Armory, some bug fixes, and improved loading performance. There’s also a new free-demo of Legendary Wars in the iTunes App Store. More →

Doodle Jump updated with multiplayer support

Doodle Jump updated with multiplayer support

Doodle Jump for iOS has been out for as long as we can remember and it’s been blessed with a number of seasonal updates… but we’re particularly hyped up for the update that was pushed out Wednesday. Now Doodle Jump addicts —  including the team here at BGR — can play against one another and test their jumping skills. In multiplayer mode, the first person to pass the 12,000 point mark wins, but the game throws some curve balls at you, too. For instance, if one player bounces off of a spring, another player can’t use that same spring. If one player falls, the game is over. We definitely had some adrenaline pumping while going head-to-head against one another. We love that multiplayer works over Wi-Fi, which allowed us to play against one another from different states. Yes, Jonathan won. Hit the jump for a link to the free update. More →

Tiny Wings iOS game updated with Game Center support, more

Tiny Wings iOS game updated with Game Center support, more

Andreas Illiger, the designer behind the hit game Tiny Wings for iPhone, iPod touch and the iPad, has updated the app with a number of enhancements and bug fixes. Game Center support is now included and there are also leaderboards for distance, longest fever jump, most cloud touches and more. Illiger has also added a new nest to the game, a statistics page and the option to play your own music (although the default Tiny Birds tune is pretty addictive in its own right). Beyond that, we dig that Illiger made the sixth island easier, considering we’ve never been past the seventh island before tiny bird falls asleep. If you haven’t downloaded Tiny Wings yet, do so now — your Chipotle lunch breaks will be that much less boring. Hit the jump for a list of bug fixes. More →
