Verizon Wireless on Tuesday announced that the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 will be available in stores and online starting March 1st. The slate was originally announced at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show in January and comes equipped with 4G LTE connectivity. The Tab 7.7 also features a 1.4GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, a 3.2-megapixel rear camera, a 2-megapixel front-facing camera, 16GB of internal storage, a microSD slot and, unfortunately, Android 3.2 Honeycomb. An update to Android 4.0 has been promised in the future. The Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 will be available March 1st for $499.99 with a new two-year agreement. Read on for Verizon’s press release. More →
Samsung on Monday announced a new version of its Galaxy Tab 7.7 tablet for Verizon Wireless from the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Verizon added 4G LTE support, but unfortunately we were deep in the confines of a Las Vegas hotel so we couldn’t get a real taste for the faster data speeds. We love the Super AMOLED Plus display, the surprisingly thin form factor and the compact 7.7-inch screen. The unit also feels very solid and we didn’t get the usual plastic feeling from some Samsung devices. The Galaxy Tab 7.7 runs Android Honeycomb and not the newer Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system, but hopefully an update is made available soon. Neither Verizon Wireless nor Samsung announced a release date or pricing, but we expect it should be available in the coming months. Samsung on Thursday unveiled two new GALAXY-branded devices at the IFA trade show in Germany, the Samsung GALAXY Note smartphone and the Samsung GALAXY Tab 7.7 tablet. The former blurs the line between smartphone and tablet — and usable and comical — featuring a massive 5.3-inch 1280 x 800-pixel Super AMOLED display that will likely make this device unpocketable for most consumers. The phone also curiously employs a stylus for note taking and drawing, though finger input is supported as well. Other specs include a 1.4GHz dual-core chipset, an 8-megapixel rear camera, a 2-megapixel front-facing camera, a gigantic 2,500 mAh battery and Android 2.3 Gingerbread with Samsung’s TouchWiz UI layer. Samsung has already hinted at several major announcements that will be made during the IFA Tradeshow in Berlin, which kicks off on September 1st, and one savvy Android user already discovered what’s in store. According to This is my next, an Android developer noticed three logos inside Samsung’s Mobile Unpacked APK file. The logos clearly name the GALAXY Tab 7.7, the Wave 3 and the GALAXY Note. We have heard rumors that Samsung will launch a new 7-inch tablet, possibly with a new Super AMOLED HD display and Honeycomb in tow, and we’re definitely excited to hear more about the GALAXY Tab 7.7. The Wave 3 will no doubt be a Samsung bada-powered device but it is still unclear exactly what the GALAXY Note is. The South Korea-based company just announced its new GALAXY family of Android smartphones on Wednesday, so it is possible the GALAXY Note is another tablet. The good news is we have just one week to wait before we find out. More →
