A mere 24 hours after it appeared on a retailer’s website, Samsung has taken to its blog to officially reveal the Galaxy Tab 3 Lite. The latest tablet in the Galaxy Tab line will feature a 7-inch 1024 x 600 resolution display, 1.2 GHz dual-core processor, 2-megapixel rear camera, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage, microSD card slot and Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. The specs are unsurprisingly identical to the retail listing from Wednesday, but unlike that listing, Samsung’s blog post does not disclose a price for the tablet. The only official release information is that the Galaxy Tab 3 Lite will release in black and white variants, both of which will be offered globally.
If a recent retailer listing is to be believed, the Galaxy Tab 3 Lite leaks were about as accurate as they could have been. The listing for the SM-T110 can be found at X-Kom, a Polish electronics retail site, and specifications for the Galaxy Tab 3 Lite include a 1024 x 600 resolution 7-inch display, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal memory, 3,600 mAh battery, 2-megapixel rear camera and Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. The price of the two models listed on the site also lines up with the rumors: $165 for Wi-Fi only, $263 for 3G. Samsung Poland also posted a user manual for a device on its own website with the same product number, another sign that the new tablet should see an official reveal before long.
Google’s Nexus 7 tablet is a tremendous value at just $229, but Samsung’s next 7-inch tablet may offer a value that is unprecedented among slates from big-name tablet makers. According to a report on Monday from Digitimes, which cites unnamed sources from Samsung’s component supply chain, Samsung is getting ready to debut a new tablet dubbed “Galaxy Tab 3 Lite.” The device will be part of Samsung’s new entry-level tablet series and will be priced at just $129 according to Digitimes’ sources. At that price, Samsung’s Tab 3 Lite would undercut Google’s Nexus 7 by $100 and it would be about $170 less expensive than Apple’s entry-level iPad mini. The Galaxy Tab 3 Lite will reportedly launch sometime in the first quarter this year and it will feature a 7-inch 1024 x 600-pixel display, a 1.2GHz Cortex A9 processor, 1GB of storage, a 3-megapixel camera and Android 4.2.
Samsung has seen Google and Amazon’s best efforts at selling super-cheap tablets and it’s apparently getting ready to do them one better. According to the latest rumors from SamMobile, Samsung is planning to release a new tablet next year called the Galaxy Tab 3 Lite that it will sell for a mere €100 (USD $135), making it by far the cheapest Samsung tablet ever released. There’s no information available yet on the rumored tablet’s specifications although SamMobile expects them to be “respectable” because Samsung is releasing both a Wi-Fi-only version and 3G cellular version of the device. No release date has been confirmed although it does sound like it would be a good candidate to launch at the Consumer Electronics Show in January.
