Samsung announces 4G LTE versions of GALAXY S II, GALAXY Tab 8.9

Samsung quietly unveiled 4G LTE-enabled versions of its popular GALAXY S II smartphone and its forthcoming GALAXY Tab 8.9 tablet this past weekend. As you might expect, these 4G versions offer identical specs compared to their 3G-enabled counterparts, with a few key differences in the S II beyond the addition of an LTE radio, of course. The GALAXY S II LTE will feature a 4.5-inch Super AMOLED Plus display, a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, an 8-megapixel camera and Android 2.3 Gingerbread. The GALAXY Tab 8.9 LTE features an 8.9-inch display, a 1.5GHz dual-core CPU, an 8.6-millimeter¬†thick case and Samsung’s TouchWiz UI atop Honeycomb. “With the introduction of GALAXY S II LTE and GALAXY Tab 8.9 LTE, we will take the capabilities of these devices to a whole new level,” said JK Shin, President and Head of Samsung’s Mobile Communications Business, in a statement.¬†“LTE redefines the user experience made possible by these devices and opens entirely new possibilities in terms of content viewing, sharing, quality and connectivity.” Shin continued, “This is a milestone in our commitment to lead the charge in 4G mobile telephony around the world, both in terms of back-end network solutions for service providers and the development of powerful consumer handsets.” Expect plenty more from these devices later this week from the annual IFA trade show in Germany.¬†Samsung’s full press release follows below. Samsung may unveil upgraded Galaxy S II LTE next week

The IFA trade show in Berlin kicks off on September 1st and Samsung has already made it known that it will have a big presence there. We’ve heard that it will announce the Samsung GALAXY Tab 7.7, the Wave 3, and the GALAXY Note but now Sammyhub suggests there could be more in store. Samsung could be preparing to take the wraps off of an upgraded GALAXY S II smartphone that could be the world’s first 4G LTE/WCDMA/GSM handset. The phone may also sport a faster 1.5GHz dual-core processor, an 8-megapixel camera, a 1,850 mAh battery and a 4.5-inch Super AMOLED Plus display. The rumor of NFC support definitely has us wondering if this will launch in the United States as the Android Ice Cream Sandwich-packing Nexus Prime, which is rumored to hit Verizon as a 4G LTE phone.
