Samsung postpones May 24th New York City press event

Samsung has just confirmed that it is postponing a press event that was originally scheduled for May 24th in New York City. It’s unclear what Samsung was scheduled to announce, although we suspect it could have been a Galaxy S II U.S. announcement, or an announcement detailing carrier partners for its Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet. Samsung says the event has been “postponed until a later date.”

Samsung Galaxy S II headed to AT&T, Verizon, Sprint

Samsung Galaxy S II headed to AT&T, Verizon, Sprint

According to a leaked silicon gel accessory page for the Samsung Galaxy S II, the highly anticipated phone will at least be landing on AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint in the U.S. The information also reveals the unique names that the phone will receive from each carrier. It will be the Samsung Attain on AT&T, the Samsung Function on Verizon Wireless, and the Samsung Within on Sprint. Oddly, those monikers don’t seem to nearly portray the hardware muscle of the device and we’re surprised to see no mention of T-Mobile. The Galaxy S II sports a dual-core processor, a large Super AMOLED Plus display, an 8-megapixel camera capable of recording HD video, and runs Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread with Samsung’s revamped TouchWiz 4.0 user interface on top. There’s no word when the Galaxy S II will make its U.S. debut, although we wouldn’t be surprised to see a summer launch. More →

Samsung’s Galaxy S II getting processor upgrade, report suggests

A recent report indicates that the unreleased Samsung Galaxy S II is getting a processor upgrade. Blog GSMArena states that the company will upgrade the 1 GHz dual-core Cortex-A9 processor to run at a blistering 1.2GHz. The site points to a slip on Samsung’s Estonian Facebook page — which mentioned the upgrade — and cites an “internal source” as its information sources. Samsung has yet to announce a specific release date for its next-generation flagship handset. More →

Verizon’s spring portfolio leaked: DROID Charge, Incredible 2, Galaxy S 2 in tow

If you were planning to buy a smartphone from Verizon Wireless soon, you may want to hold off for one more month. It looks like there are a number of high-end smartphones that are set to launch this spring; at least, according to a tipster who leaked an internal document to Phandroid. The leak suggests that Verizon Wireless will release the Casio Commando, an Android powered smartphone, and the Samsung DROID Charge — capable of running on Verizon’s 4G LTE network — on April 7th. The next week, Verizon Wireless will purportedly launch the Sony Xperia PLAY and the Windows 7-powered HTC Trophy. On April 28th, the HTC DROID Incredible 2 may also make its debut. Verizon Wireless’ other 4G phones, including the LG Revolution, Motorola BIONIC, Motorola DROID X2, and Samsung Galaxy 2 (presumably the Galaxy S 2), and are reportedly scheduled to launch in May. Again, this is all speculation, and given that the source’s Excel file looks a bit shoddy, we wouldn’t place too much stock in this… but the timing does make sense. More →
