T-Mobile LG G2x Android smartphone hands-on

We just met up with T-Mobile during CTIA Wireless 2011 to check out the brand-spanking new T-Mobile G2x by LG, an Android 2.2 (Froyo) smartphone that packs a punch. Seriously, this puppy insanely quick thanks to its dual-core NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor. In our hands, applications literally felt like they were opening and closing instantly. T-Mobile’s 4G network helps matters too, of course, and the BGR.com homepage loaded up in just a few seconds. T-Mobile unveils G2x smartphone, 4G Mobile Hotspot, more; doubles HSPA+ speed to 42Mbps

Just because it’s most likely going to be acquired doesn’t mean T-Mobile is going to be a no-show at CTIA this year. The carrier just introduced its latest smartphone, the T-Mobile G2x, which is a new Android handset from LG. It is powered by a 1GHz NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual-core processor with a 4-inch display, an 8-megapixel camera, and Android 2.2. In addition to the new handset, T-Mobile is continuing the company’s 4G onslaught with an announcement that it will be doubling its HSPA+ speeds — first in markets like Las Vegas, New York and Orlando, with Long Island, Northern New Jersey and Chicago close behind. The carrier expects 140 million people in 25 markets to have access to increased 4G speeds by mid-year. T-Mobile also introduced its first portable hotspot — a 4G Mobile Hotspot manufactured by ZTE. It will allow up to five devices to connect via Wi-Fi to a compact 21Mbps-capable 2.64 ounce device. Lastly, T-Mobile says that the Rocket 3.0 from ZTE will be the its first 4G product to take full advantage of the new 42 Mbps service, and it will join the T-Mobile Jet 2.0 and prepaid Rocket 4G laptop sticks. All of the aforementioned devices will be available later this spring except for the Jet 2.0 laptop stick, which will launch later this week on March 23rd.

T-Mobile to release LG G2X, G-Slate on April 20th, suggests rumor

According to blog TmoNews, T-Mobile will release the G-Slate tablet and G2X smartphone next month on April 20th. The blog notes that the two LG devices should be given firm release date on the nation’s fourth largest provider next week at the CTIA Wireless conference in Orlando, FL. The LG G2X will be a T-Mobile branded Optimus 2X and the G-Slate is the Honeycomb device we saw announced at CES back in January. We know the G-Slate will be sporting an HSPA+, 4G radio, but details on the G2X are still unknown.

CTIA awards site suggests two new LG smartphones due at conference

The CTIA Wireless conference is just around the corner, and in preparation for the three day extravaganza, the Wireless Association is starting to make its final preparations for the event. Part of these preparations include listing the finalists for conference awards, and the “Phones/Smartphones” category has yielded some interesting information. The first three finalists include the HTC ThunderBolt, Motorola ATRIX 4G, and LG Revolution. The final two candidates included on the list are two, unnamed LG handsets simply listed as “LG Mobile Phones.” What could these mysterious handsets be? PCMag, the discoverer of the mysterious device listings, suspects that one of the devices could be T-Mobile’s version of the Optimus 2X — the unannounced but expected Optimus G2X. If we had to venture a guess as to what the second device might be: we would assume that it is a version of the company’s dual-core Optiums 3D handset we saw at Mobile World Congress. Which carrier the handset will land on is, however, anyones guess.
