iPad 2 features redesigned case, wide-range speakers according to report

Citing an anonymous Chinese source, Japanese Apple enthusiast site Kanteidan Blog reports several unconfirmed details about Apple’s upcoming second-generation iPad. The case on the iPad 2 will feature notable design changes compared to the current iPad model, according to the report. It will measure 239 mm by 186 mm, which is slightly smaller than Apple’s current 242.8 mm by 189.7 mm iPad case. The back will reportedly be flat instead of convex, like the current model’s case back, and the bezel surrounding the 9.7-inch display will be smaller. Finally, Kanteidan’s source claims the iPad 2 will feature wide-range speakers for improved audio quality. Apple’s next-generation iPad is expected to begin shipping from manufacturers in January or February, with a release likely falling some time in the first quarter. More →

Nielsen: U.S. digital music sales flat in 2010

According to analytics company Nielsen, digital music sales in the United States were flat during the first half of 2010; showing no positive growth from 2009. The data should be concerning to record labels as digital music sales rose 28% from 2007 to 2008 and 13% from 2008 to 2009. Nielsen’s Jean Littolff spoke with Reuters and explained: “I think this is a plateau, it doesn’t mean that this digital consumption is going to drop significantly.” Nielsen cited lack of consumer confidence and confusion over the plethora of ways to acquire your digital music online as possible reasons for the sudden slowdown. How about you? Are you buying less music these days? More →

Microsoft Hardware Team tweets, teases of new hardware

The Microsoft Hardware Team has had a Twitter account — @msfthardware — for just over a week, and they are wasting no time in using the micro-blog service to tease the release of a new product. Yesterday, the company tweeted: “‘Don’t be so touchy…flat is where it’s at.’ We’ll share another glimpse of our upcoming product with you tomorrow.” And today, this image of the corner of some unknown piece of hardware was published by the Microsoft group. Speculation is running wild on this one –personally we think it is some sort of multi-touch accessory like the Magic Pad — but no one knows for ceratain. What do you think it could be? More →
