Forget Tesla, Rimac’s Concept One EV is the speed demon of our dreams

At this point, you might be forgiven for thinking that Tesla’s Model S has run out of things to race against. Over the past few months, we’ve seen a Tesla race a Boeing 737 down a runway, a Model S take on a motorcycle (it wasn’t even close) and even a Model S race (and get smoked by) a McLaren 650S.

But seemingly every week, a new Tesla race video emerges, and like Pavlolv’s dog, we can’t help but watch again and again. The latest installment of a Tesla Model S being put to the test comes to us courtesy of Archie Hamilton Racing who recently decided to pit the fastest Tesla available — a Model S  P90D in Ludicrous Mode — against the fastest electric car on the planet, a Concept_One car from Rimac.

Company creates the world’s first all-electric Ferrari

Despite the increasing popularity of Tesla, and despite the fact that even luxury automakers like BMW and Porsche have warmed up to the idea of EVs, Ferrari remains principally opposed to the idea. Not too long ago, Ferrari Chairman Sergio Marchionne said that the idea of developing a Ferrari without a standard internal combustion engine would be “an almost obscene concept” and something Ferrari would never even contemplate.

Thankfully, a company called Electric GT not only contemplated the idea, but actually put together an all-electric Ferrari. The team at Electric GT managed to find a 1978 Ferrari 308 GTS that was burned in a fire and was destined for the scrapyard, the car seemingly burned beyond repair. Seizing the opportunity, Electric GT rescued the car and swiftly got to work.

Ferrari CEO drives a Tesla, promptly calls electric cars ‘obscene’

Relative to how fast things typically move in the auto industry (read: not fast at all), Tesla’s emergence as a forward-thinking and revolutionary car company seemingly came out of nowhere. While traditional automakers over the years have been quick to scoff at Tesla’s prospects for long-term success, the success of the Model S and the recent explosion in Model 3 reservations underscore that Tesla is here to stay.

Speaking to how Tesla is completely turning the auto industry on its head, just yesterday we highlighted a video featuring a drag race between a Tesla Model X and a Ferrari F430. Impressively, the Model X managed to hold its own against the F430 for far longer than you might imagine.

Incredible drag race video pits Tesla Model X against a Ferrari F430

Incredible drag race video pits Tesla Model X against a Ferrari F430

As Elon Musk likes to boast, Tesla doesn’t know how to make slow cars. In fact, when it comes to pure acceleration, Tesla offers borderline supercar level performance at a price point that’s incredibly reasonable when you look at how much some of the most expensive cars in the world typically sell for.

Over the past few months, we’ve seen no shortage of race videos pitting a Tesla Model S against all comers, including a Lamborghini Aventador, a McLaren 650s Spider, and even a Boeing 737. Does the Model S ever prevail? Of course not. But with a Model S in Ludicrious Mode capable of going from 0-60 in just 2.8 seconds, the raw acceleration is still a sight to behold.

Now that Tesla has finally gotten around to ramping up production on the Model X, we’re finally starting to see Tesla’s crossover SUV appear in drag racing videos of its own. Most recently, DragTimes decided to pit a Tesla P90D Model X in Ludicrous mode against a Ferrari F430. As a quick point of interest, a Model X in Ludicrous mode can go from 0-60 in 3.2 seconds, can complete a quarter-mile in just 11.7 seconds and has a top speed of 155 mph. By way of contrast, a Ferrari F430 can reach a top speed of 196 mph and can go from 0-60 in 3.8 seconds.

Restored Ferrari Enzo

A Ferrari Enzo that got cut in half was miraculously restored and sold for $1.75 million

A Ferrari Enzo that got cut in half was miraculously restored and sold for $1.75 million

On the surface, a Ferrari Enzo being sold for $1.75 million at a RM Sotheby’s auction in Paris seems like a complete non-story. After all, with just about 400 ever models produced and a top speed of 221 mph, the Enzo understandably commands a high asking price.

But what makes this particular story so intriguing is that the Ferrari Enzo in question was successfully restored after being involved in a notorious and rather horrific 2006 car crash that literally split the car in two, an accident which made headlines around the world when it happened.

It’s hard to feel too sorry for anyone who can afford a $1.4 million Ferrari… but it is certainly possible to feel sorry for the car itself. A video posted by YouTube user Gábor Grubits shows a man in Budapest crashing a $1.4 million LaFerrari just minutes after he bought it and drove it off the lot. More →

The 12 most insane new cars from the Geneva Motor Show

There are plenty of auto shows around the world each year, and each of the big ones has generally developed a unique reputation as far as what car fans should expect. In the case of the annual Geneva Motor Show, people expect to be blown away by exotic cars that most people will likely never even see in person, let alone own.

This year, the Geneva show did not disappoint. There are tons of sleek and sexy cars to salivate over, so narrowing the list down to a handful of particularly drool-worthy cars is an absolute necessity. More →

These 20 cars just sold for a ridiculous $115 million at auction

Think that $100,000 BMW your neighbor just bought is overpriced? What if we told you that a single car just fetched a price of nearly $10 million at a recent auction in Arizona? Gooding & Company held an automobile auction this past weekend in Arizona and the 20 priciest cars sold for a staggering $115 million, combined. Of course, we’re not talking about Fords and Hyundais off the line here. We’re talking about rare and exotic collector cars that are among the most desirable automobiles in the world. More →

Motorola Milestone gets Ferrari limited

We just came across a pretty interesting handset… no, it’s not a never-seen-before device, but it definitely caught our eye. It’s a Motorola Milestone that has been produced in limited quantities for Ferrari. We’ve been told Ferrari has given the device to members of its board, possibly executives and maybe even a couple good customers. Nothing has changed specifications-wise but still, it’s always fun to see high end companies dress up existing products in their gear. One more shot after the break! More →
