Best Buy Mobile pre-sales of Samsung Fascinate start 27th, 29th

If you want to assure yourself a Samsung Fascinate the very moment it hits the streets, you might want to consider Best Buy Mobile. Today, in a press release, BBM announced that:

The Verizon Wireless Samsung Fascinate™ is available for pre-order starting August 29. As an added and exclusive bonus, Best Buy Reward Zone members can reserve the Samsung Fascinate on August 27, two days before it goes on pre-sale to the general public. That priority access will help ensure that Reward Zone members get their device first.

No pricing was mentioned in the article; although $199 with a 2-year contract is a safe bet. The device still doesn’t have an official release date, but that has to be coming very soon. More →

Verizon Wireless Samsung Fascinate training documents leaked

Verizon Wireless Samsung Fascinate training documents leaked

One of our Verizon Ninjas was kind enough to pass along a handful of training documentation being circulated for the Samsung Fascinate’s looming release. A lot of the documentation will confirm what you already know, the device will have a: 1 GHz Hummingbird processor, 4-inch Super AMOLED display, and a 5 megapixel shooter with 720p recording abilities. The documents also detail that the Fascinate will support ActiveSync for Exchange 2003, 2007, and 2010 servers. Mobile hotspot capability will be built in, and — like the EPIC 4G — the device will have Bluetooth 2.1 + ERD as opposed to Bluetooth 3.0. Curiously, the device will only have 384 MB of RAM; the Captivate, EPIC, and Vibrant all have 512 MB. Flash support is listed as being available by “Year End 2010″; meaning Android 2.2 probably isn’t dropping on the Fascinate until then either. Some of the more mundane things we discover are that the device will come preloaded with Bing Maps, Google Maps with Navigation, NFL Mobile App, Amazon Kindle, Visual Voicemail, Backup Assistant, Blockbuster, Skype Mobile, Vcast Videos, and VZ Navigator. Hit the jump to view all the goodies.

Thanks, blu3live!

UPDATE: We’re not sure about the RAM figure listed on these slides. On the fifth slide RAM is listed as 336 MB with 512 MB of ROM, on the 7th slide RAM is listed as 384 with 2 GB of ROM. Obviously one (or both) of these figures is incorrect on the training documentation. More →

Samsung Fascinate begins arriving in Verizon warehouses, early September launch?

Phandroid is reporting that Verizon Wireless has started taking shipments of the Samsung Fascinate into their distribution warehouses. The report has a screen shot of one of Verizon’s systems that has the SCH-I500 prominently displayed. The blog is speculating a September launch which, at least to us, seems accurate. As one of our readers pointed out, the MTV Music Awards (of all things) will be officially sponsored by the “Samsung Fascinate a Galaxy S phone” and “Verizon Wireless,” amongst other things. The show is set to air on September 12th and it is hard to imagine a high-profile sponsorship such as this not to coincide with a release of some sort. More →

XDA finds SIM-unlock method for all Galaxy S phones

If you recently purchased — or have plans to purchase — a phone in the Samsung Galaxy S line, the folks over a xda-developers have a pretty interesting tutorial up on their forums. The instructions detail how to carrier-unlock your Galaxy S phone (e.g. Captivate, Vibrant, etc.) without the need to pay for a SIM unlocking service. The process is four steps long and looks to be a 4 or 5 out of 10 on the difficulty scale. Hit up the read link if you want to give this one a shot… and do let us know if you have any success.  More →

Samsung working on GPS update for Galaxy S, due out in September

This may not be the news you’re looking for, but at least it is something. Samsung web product analyst, Carla Saaverda, tweeted that her company is currently testing a software fix for the Galaxy S GPS bug and that it should be released sometime in September. Not really much else to say about it. What do you think of this timeline? Good, bad, or indifferent? How is your GPS experience on your Galaxy S phone?
