AllThingsD on Tuesday announced that Apple CEO Tim Cook will be the keynote speaker on the opening night of its D10 conference. It will be Cook’s first appearance at the conference. Apple co-founder and former CEO Steve Jobs spoke at the event numerous times, last appearing at the D8 conference two years ago. Cook will join the likes of New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg, Oracle CEO Larry Ellison, Federal Trade Commission Chairman Jon Leibowitz, entrepreneur Sean Parker, Spotify co-founder and CEO Daniel Ek, Zynga founder and CEO Mark Pincus, as well as many others who will be speaking at the event. Apple is in “crunch mode” to line up apps that will be used for on-stage demonstrations during the company’s iPad 3 launch event, which is said to be scheduled for early next month, TheNextWeb reports. Remember those rumors about Apple holding a mid-to-late January event in NYC? Well, invites just went out to media, and focus is on education as some had rumored. We’d imagine one of the event focal points to be on reinventing and transforming the textbook industry.
T-Mobile and Nokia announced a special press event that will be held on December 14th at 7:00 p.m. The event could result in the first carrier launch of a Nokia Windows Phone in the United States, and early rumors have suggested it might be a version of the Nokia Lumia 710 that launched in Europe a few weeks ago. It’s all speculation for now, but it looks like we’re going to get our first taste of Nokia’s plans for the U.S. a little bit earlier than expected. We’ll be covering the event so stay tuned for more information on December 14th.
UPDATE: A new entry for the Lumia 710 at the FCC suggests the companies may indeed announce a T-Mobile-bound 710.
Spotify announced on Monday that it will hold a press conference on November 30th in New York City during which the company’s CEO Daniel Ek, and “special guests,” will discuss “what’s next” for the company. It’s entirely unclear what the event might cover, given the service only recently launched this summer in the United States. It is possible the Spotify will announce an iPad application, although that might be too minor an event to warrant a press conference. Perhaps the company will introduce a music store to go head-to-head with iTunes and Google Music, but we haven’t heard any rumors suggesting that might be a possibility.
If you’re just waiting to blast some Beats audio-laden tunes from HTC’s latest and greatest, November 3rd will probably be a good day for you. That’s the date on the invitations HTC just sent out to the media, and we’re expecting the company to announce the HTC Rezound, also known by the code-name “HTC Vigor” for Verizon Wireless. The device should feature a 4.3-inch 720p HD display, a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, an 8-megapixel camera and, of course, Beats audio. No word on whether or not Lady Gaga Beats headphones will ship with the device, though. We’ll be reporting live from the event next Thursday so stay tuned.
Motorola has just sent out invitations to a press event with Verizon Wireless on October 18th in New York City, and if a variety of leaks over the past few weeks are accurate, we should see some awesome new hardware unveiled. There should be multiple updates to the Motorola XOOM tablet, a Motorola XOOM 2 and a XOOM 2 Media Edition, as well as a new Motorola DROID HD (Motorola DROID RAZR) — a set of next-generation devices that will get any Android fan worked up. We’ll be there covering it live, so make sure to tune in next Tuesday. Hit the break for a teaser video. More →
Samsung has just announced that the product launch event at CTIA Fall planned for next week with Google won’t be happening. Here’s Samsung’s statement:
Samsung and Google have decided to postpone the Samsung Mobile Unpacked event during the CTIA in San Diego, previously scheduled for Oct. 11. Under the current circumstances, both parties have agreed that this is not the appropriate time for the announcement of a new product. We would ask for the understanding of our clients and media for any inconvenience caused. We will announce a new date and venue in due course.”
We know the Google and Samsung teams have been working around the clock on the Galaxy Nexus, but a postponement a few days before the event doesn’t make too much sense. We’ve reached out to Samsung and Google for further clarification, but it looks like we’ll have to keep re-watching that leaked video from this morning over and over for a bit longer now.
UPDATE: Updated with newer statement from Samsung.
It’s official: Apple’s brand new flagship handset, the iPhone 4S, is here. While confusion was sprinkled throughout the industry on exactly what Apple would announce, most seemed to agree that the iPhone 4S would be the smartphone that Apple ultimately would unveil. The iPhone 4S features an upgraded Apple A5 dual-core processor that is twice as fast at executing tasks, and it offers performance up to 7x better than the previous iPhone in terms of graphics. Even with the increased performance of the new A5 chip, Apple is stating battery life has increased to 8 hours of 3G talk time. Hit the break for more. More →
It’s official: invitations for Apple’s iPhone event are now being sent to the media. As had been rumored, this year’s iPhone unveiling will be held on Apple’s campus in Cupertino, California as opposed to Apple’s standard venue, the Moscone Center in San Francisco. The press conference will begin at 10:00 a.m. Pacific, 1:00 p.m. Eastern, and BGR will be bringing you all the news as it breaks.
Amazon sent out media invites on Friday for a press event that will be held in New York City on September 28th. The invitation does not provide a hint toward what will be unveiled during the presentation, although we expect the company to finally take the wraps off of its first Android tablet. The most recent rumors have suggested that Amazon will undercut the price of the iPad by hundreds of dollars, and Amazon could price its tablet in the $250 range. We exclusively reported that Amazon was working on an entry-level dual-core “Coyote” tablet and a quad-core “Hollywood” tablet this past May. Recent rumors have suggested the company’s first tablet device will offer a 7-inch display and will run Android with a custom Amazon user interface on top. BGR will be at Amazon’s event to cover all the action as it unfolds, so be sure to tune in!
We just spent some quick time with the HTC Rhyme here at HTC’s event in New York City. The device is sleek, reasonably thin, and feels good in your hand. It’s soft-touch coated and obviously is geared towards more of the female audience with the fashion-focus and color, though the phone itself doesn’t alienate anyone. Specifications are on-point with a mid-range smartphone, and the docking station and other accessories round out a decent package. We’ll have to see how interested consumers are at a $199.99 with a two-year agreement, however, especially with much more capable handsets available and coming soon. Check out the hands-on photos in our HTC Rhyme gallery, alright?
German website HTCInside recently leaked press shots of the HTC Rhyme, currently codenamed HTC Bliss, which HTC is might unveil during a press event in New York City next week. Unfortunately, specs are still very slim at this point. The HTC Bliss was originally rumored to be a smartphone that would be specifically targeted at women, but HTCInside says that won’t be the case when it breaks cover as the Rhyme. The Rhyme runs Android 2.3.4 (Gingerbread) and may be equipped with a 3.7-inch display. It is possible the Rhyme will be offered in a variety of colors including blue, silver/white, yellow and pink, although that is still unconfirmed. We’ll be reporting live from HTC’s event on September 20th so stay tuned for more information. In the meantime, read on for two more images of the Rhyme. More →
