674,000 Windows Phone devices sold to date, analyst suggests

Famed Russian technology blogger and analyst, Eldar Murtazin, thinks he has a beat on global Windows Phone sales figures, and the results are grim. Murtazin notes that although the company has shipped 1.5 million handsets worldwide, it has only sold 674,000 to end-users. The article’s author never indicates where his information originates from, but Murtazin has a proven track record when it comes to providing accurate insider information in the mobile space. Selling 674,000 smartphones certainly isn’t anything to to be ashamed of, but we’re not sure it is cause for celebration either. More →

Murtazin: Nokia to build Windows Phone 7 devices?

Murtazin: Nokia to build Windows Phone 7 devices?

While the following seems completely improbable, you have to give the idea consideration due to the source. Mobile Review‘s Eldar Murtazin, who is known for his deep Nokia connections, writes that Nokia and Microsoft are working on a partnership that would create “an entire line of Windows Phone devices that may go under the name Nokia [translated].” That’s right: Microsoft’s software, Nokia’s hardware. Now, before anyone gets too excited, Nokia’s lame-duck Mobile VP, Anssi Vanjoki, has publicly (and quite humorously) stated that this company is not interested in utilizing third-party mobile operating systems such as Google’s Android. Perhaps the new leadership team over at Nokia is rethinking its position on third-party code? It’s a stretch, but it is, to say the least, interesting. More →

Images of AT&T branded Nokia X7 surface on the web

Images of AT&T branded Nokia X7 surface on the web

Several weeks ago, a video displaying the gaming prowess of an unannounced Nokia handset — the X7-00 — surfaced on the web. Now, thanks to the notorious Nokia-slayer Eldar Murtazin, we have two new images of an AT&T branded X7 to dissect. Mr Murtazin — who reviewed the Nokia N8 months before its official announcement (much to the chagrin of Nokia) — was a bit sparse with details. All he would say was that he does not like the device and that he is working on a full review. However, from the images we can see the device will have an 8 megapixel camera with a dual-led flash, dedicated camera button, and what appears to be a 4-inch form factor. Combine those bits of intel with previous reports that peg the X7 as having four, high-quality speakers and you pretty much have the full wrap sheet on the handset… for now. There is another image waiting for you after the break. Enjoy. More →

Nokia demands return of N8 from Eldar Murtazin, asks Russian Police for assistance

Nokia is on the warpath regarding the leaked N8 prototype handset that was the subject of a scathing review by Eldar Murtazin of Mobile-Review. Nokia publicly announced on its Conversations blog that it sent a written request to Murtazin asking for the return of this unauthorized property. Murtazin reportedly failed to respond to this letter and Nokia has sought the assistance of the Russian police. Nokia claims that this heavy-handed response was not prompted by the negative review from Murtazin but out of a need to protect its intellectual property. The tale gets even more sordid with Murtazin claiming via Twitter that he was never contacted by Nokia and accuses them of lying about the letter. More →
