Poor Lumia sales may have pushed Nokia back into acquisition talks with Microsoft

Poor sales of the Nokia Lumia 800 and 710 may have prompted Nokia to resume acquisition talks with Microsoft during November, according to a recent Forbes interview with influential Russian tech blogger Eldar Murtazin. Rumors that Nokia was considering selling off its smartphone business to Microsoft first surfaced in June but were quickly shot down by both companies. Murtazin said, however, that the talks resumed again this past November and that it’s possible Nokia could be interested in selling its smartphone business to Microsoft and then focusing on delivering its next-generation feature phones in emerging markets and elsewhere. Nokia on Thursday denied all speculation surrounding the rumored potential deal. Murtazin also claims that Nokia only sold 2,000 Lumia devices in Russia during its first two weeks of availability. Nokia may slash prices across entire cell phone line this fall

Nokia may slash prices across entire cell phone line this fall

Nokia plans to drop prices across its entire product line this September in an attempt to bolster sales, industry insider Eldar Murtazin claimed on Friday. The struggling Finnish cell phone vendor will cut phone prices by 10% according to the Russian blogger, who has an extensive history of accurately reporting inside information pertaining to Nokia and other smartphone vendors. “Nokia are going to cut prices for the whole product line by 10 per cent in September,” Murtazin posted on his Twitter account. “They struggle for a market share worldwide.” Nokia’s share of the global cell phone market has been steadily declining as the company failed to adjust its strategy to the changing marketplace over the past few years. As a result, Nokia recently announced that it would dump its aging Symbian smartphone platform in favor of Microsoft’s Windows Phone operating system moving forward. The vendor is expected to launch several new Symbian devices through the first half of 2012, but it will offer Windows Phones as well beginning later this year with a device codenamed “Sea Ray.” More →

Nokia is on the warpath regarding the leaked N8 prototype handset that was the subject of a scathing review by Eldar Murtazin of Mobile-Review. Nokia publicly announced on its Conversations blog that it sent a written request to Murtazin asking for the return of this unauthorized property. Murtazin reportedly failed to respond to this letter and Nokia has sought the assistance of the Russian police. Nokia claims that this heavy-handed response was not prompted by the negative review from Murtazin but out of a need to protect its intellectual property. The tale gets even more sordid with Murtazin claiming via Twitter that he was never contacted by Nokia and accuses them of lying about the letter. More →

Symbian^3 gets exhaustively reviewed

murtazin-s3-screenshot

Nokia fans waiting with bated breath for Symbian^3 and the N8 to arrive now have an exhaustive review of the next generation Symbian platform to tide them over. Courtesy of Eldar Murtazin, the review covers nearly every nook and cranny of the upcoming mobile operating system with screen galore. If you are expecting a glowing review that praises Nokia’s efforts, you better look elsewhere as Murtazin is brutally frank with his assessment and highly critical of the OS. Wrapping up his review, Murtazin acknowledges that S^3 is a step forward for Symbian but the platform still is several generations behind its competition. He calls Symbian^3 a gift from Nokia to its competition, explaining that Nokia’s flagship OS is “inferior to the already existing solutions” and can only make these other platforms look good in comparison.
