New Samsung flagship phone due in February?

Here’s the good news: the slide above depicts a possible upcoming Samsung handset that would definitely knock some socks off. The nameless Android kit apparently sports Android 2.3 (Gingerbread), a 4.3-inch or 4.5-inch sAMOLED2 (Super AMOLED 2) display, an 8-megapixel camera, Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth 3.0, DNLA, GPS, full HD video recording and playback, and a 1.2GHz processor. This beast of a device is reportedly due in February of next year, and will be Samsung’s flagship phone for the first half of 2011. Sound too good to be true? Well, it might be.

Here’s the bad news: the image shown next to the “Revolution in Design” heading on the slide does not depict the Samsung phone we just described. In fact, it’s not even a Samsung product. Instead, it’s an old Apiotek SkyPhone. While that doesn’t necessarily mean the slide is fake — trust us; weirder things have happened in authentic documents — were not exactly sure why someone on Samsung’s marketing team would have an image of an old Apiotek VoIP phone sitting on his or her computer, or why one would be intentionally yanked off the Internet when this slide was being assembled. Samsung's i8520 Beam packs an in-built projector

Samsung's i8520 Beam packs an in-built projector

Although we fear the only people who will buy a phone with a projector built into it are the same jackasses people who bring laser pointers into movie theaters, we have to admit the Samsung i8520 Beam is pretty darn cool considering the DLP Pico projector is actually built into the device and not some crappy add-on. But of course, no novelty feature can help a phone’s sales if the rest of it isn’t up to snuff, though it looks like the i8520 has enough packed into its 14.9mm thin frame to get the geek juices flowing:  a 3.7″ WVGA Super AMOLED display, 8 megapixel camera with auto-focus and flash, aGPS, Wi-Fi, DNLA, 7.2Mbps up HSDPA (900/1900/2100MHz), 16GB of internal memory, 512MB ROM / 384MB RAM and an 1800 mAh battery that is said to yield 7 hours and 50 minutes of 3G talk time. OS wise, the i8520 is running Android 2.1 with “Specialized Projector UI”, something which is identical to the bada interface. No word yet on what processor we’re dealing with, although we have fired off an email to Samsung PR. The Samsung i8520 Beam will be available in Europe and Asia starting in Q3. More →

LG's 12.1 megapixel-packin' GC990 Louvre says wassup

LG's 12.1 megapixel-packin' GC990 Louvre says wassup

If phones that would make most affordable digital point and shoot cameras blush are your thing, then you might want to take a moment to familiarize yourself with LG’s upcoming GC990 Louvre. Rushing past the awesome non-camera related specs that include a 3.2-inch 16:9 touchscreen display , Wi-Fi, aGPS, DNLA, TV-out, Bluetooth, XviD and DivX playback, the Louvre packs a powerful 12.1 megapixel shooter complete with a Schneider-Kreuznach lens and touch-focus capabilities. Film speed supposedly tops out at a whopping ISO 3200 for still images while video can be recorded at resolutions up to 720p at 30 fps. Sounds killer, right? We think so, too, with our only complaint being that a phone featuring the S-Class UI should have never been named after one of the most renowned art museums in the world. S-Class is great and all, but no. Anyway, hit the jump for a few more pics.

Thanks, Dion!
