Samsung Galaxy Nexus hands-on

We’ve been playing with a Samsung Galaxy Nexus for the last day, and after shuffling between a Motorola DROID RAZR, an HTC Vivid and an HTC Rezound, the Samsung Galaxy Nexus is a welcome change in many ways. It’s obviously the Google reference handset for Ice Cream Sandwich, and in almost all cases, it is the best Android handset we’ve seen far as hardware and software go. Android 4.0 is the most cohesive release from Google yet, and while it’s not that straight forward out of the box, you do eventually get the feeling that this phone has a distinct personality as opposed to many other Android phones, which often seem to blend together. Be sure to check out our hands-on photos in the gallery below, and hit the break for more thoughts.

HTC Zeta image, specs leak: 2.5GHz quad-core CPU, Android 4.0

An image and details surrounding a purported new HTC smartphone code-named “Zeta” have been uncovered. Following BGR’s exclusive reports revealing two upcoming HTC phones set to be unveiled early next year at Mobile World Congress — the HTC Edge and HTC VilleEngadget on Tuesday published a render of the HTC Zeta. Featuring a unique design and a near-edgeless 4.5-inch 720p display, the Zeta is rumored to sport a unibody aluminum case, quad-core 2.5GHz processor, 1GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage, Beats Audio, Bluetooth 4.0, an 8-megapixel rear camera, a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera and a 1,830 mAh battery. The phone will run Android 4 Ice Cream Sandwich according to the report, likely beneath a new version of HTC’s Sense UI. Pricing and a launch date are still mysteries, but the beefed up 2.5GHz quad-core chipset could mean this flagship Android phone will be announced later in the year while the Edge and Ville help lead HTC’s lineup in the first half. HTC Ville detailed: HTC Sense 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich, thinner than iPhone

HTC Ville detailed

We just got the scoop on another brand new HTC handset, which will be part of the company’s Mobile World Congress announcements alongside the HTC Edge we detailed yesterday. The HTC Ville (codename) is set to launch in April with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and, for the first time, HTC Sense 4.0. The smartphone will feature a 4.3-inch qHD Super AMOLED display, and is powered by a 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon Series 4 processor. In addition to those specifications, the HTC Ville will house an 8-megapixel backside-illuminated camera, just like the one on the HTC Edge, with 1080p HD video capture support. We’re told the handset won’t feature NFC due to the metal construction of the case, and it will be less than 8mm thick, we understand. Lastly, it will be a HSPA+ device powered by a 1,650 mAh battery, and of course Beats audio processing will be included as well.

Motorola DROID HD (RAZR/Spyder) specs revealed; said to be ‘faster than the iPhone 4S’

We just confirmed some of the specifications for the upcoming Motorola DROID device (DROID HD / DROID RAZR / Spyder) that Verizon Wireless and Motorola are rumored to be announcing next week, and they are monster. Here is what we have:

  • Thinner and “faster than the iPhone 4S” according to our source
  • 1GB of RAM — double the iPhone 4 and 4S
  • 1.2GHz dual-core processor
  • 4G LTE (thinnest LTE phone to date)

Samsung Galaxy S III specs supposedly leak

Samsung’s Galaxy S II is still rolling out here in the U.S. but we’re already seeing possible details on the device’s successor. Phandroid obtained a purported slide from an internal Samsung Mobile deck that lists a Samsung Galaxy III due to be released in 2012. According to this slide, Samsung’s third-generation Galaxy phones will feature a 1.8GHz dual-core Exynos 4212 processor, 2GB of RAM, a 4.6-inch Super AMOLED Plus HD display and a 12-megapixel camera. The anonymous source of the slide also claims the device will be thinner than Samsung’s current Galaxy S II models and will include 4G LTE support and an NFC chip. Of note, Phandroid questions the authenticity of the slide it published in its report, noting that the Galaxy S is listed as having shipped with an Exynos processor though it actually included a 1GHz Hummingbird CPU. Such errors are not uncommon on internal documents that have surfaced in the past, however. More →

Sprint scores iPhone 5 exclusive thanks to $20 billion deal with Apple?

iPhone 5 Sprint

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Sprint has entered into an agreement with Apple to purchase over $20 billion worth of iPhones over the next four years — that’s around 30 million iPhones. It’s said that Sprint won’t even break even on the transaction until 2014, which is surely a huge risk on Sprint’s part, but why? I have been going back and forth for weeks with one of my incredibly solid industry contacts on a piece of information that I couldn’t really process at first — information that is so unbelievable, even from a source this solid, that I couldn’t report it. With this new WSJ report on an Apple/Sprint deal, however, it doesn’t look so crazy. Hit the break for more. More →

Android 4.0 'Ice Cream Sandwich' images and details revealed

The first images and details surrounding Google’s next major Android release have seemingly been revealed. Mobile site RootzWiki claims to have received images and details from a source with an early build of Android 4.0 “Ice Cream Sandwich,” and it has published two images of the OS running on a Nexus S. The site says this Ice Cream Sandwich build is “still very early in the works and not 100% functional,” and it speculates that the OS will not be released in the near future as a result. Among the features reportedly found in Android 4.0 are a new blue theme in place of Gingerbread’s green theme, a camera with an integrated panorama feature and various Honeycomb-like UI details. The site’s source says that Ice Cream Sandwich will be made available for the Nexus S following its release, but the Nexus Prime will be the first device to launch with the new OS, just as BGR exclusively reported in June. While Nintendo has been quiet when it comes to the specs of its newly announced Wii U gaming console, preliminary details are beginning to emerge from the E3 2011 show. We obviously already know plenty about the Wii U touchscreen controller, which we went hands-on with yesterday, but the console itself is a bit of a mystery. We know the Wii U will support full HD 1080p gaming, and now we also know it will be facilitated by a custom Radeon HD graphics processor from AMD. In addition, IBM will be supplying Nintendo with a 45nm multi-core processor with embedded DRAM for the console. There are also four USB ports on hand, an HDMI port, an S-video port and component jacks, and the console with obviously feature 802.11n Wi-Fi. The rest, for the time being, is still a mystery. In case you missed it, we’ve also included Nintendo’s full press release below. More →
