Reuters: Apple to ship iPhone 5 in September

Reuters is reporting that Apple, Inc. will ship its next generation iPhone — oft referred to as the iPhone 5 — this September. The publication cites three sources “with direct knowledge of the company’s supply chain” and adds that the updated iPhone will sport a “faster processor.” Reuters writes that Largan Precision Co Ltd will be responsible for the new device’s camera sensor, Wintek Corp for its touchscreen panel, and Foxconn Technology Co Ltd for case production. “The companies would begin production either in July or August before shipping components to Hon Hai Precision Industry Co Ltd, flagship of Foxconn Technology Group, for assembly,” the site’s sources state. Analysts and pundits have been utilizing supply-chain checks to try and determine when Apple’s next smartphone will hit store shelves. September of 2011 and January of 2012 have been the two most popular prognostications. The September timeline has been touted by RBC, Avian Securities and Concord Securities in subsequent, independent reports. More →

Motorola delays DROID BIONIC until summer, makes changes

Well, we suppose there’s a good and a bad here. The Motorola DROID BIONIC was lightly rumored to have been cancelled due to repeated internal delays — said to be related to heavy battery life issues among other things — but that isn’t exactly true. Originally slated to be released in the second quarter, Motorola has now placed the BIONIC on a (late) “summer” release schedule, complete with “several enhancements to make this an ever better consumer experience,” according to a Motorola spokesperson speaking to The Wall Street Journal. T-Mobile cancels unlimited Even More Plus plan

T-Mobile cancels unlimited Even More Plus plan

T-Mobile giveth, and T-Mobile taketh away. News coming down from T-Mobile enthusiast blog TmoNews suggests that the apple of AT&T’s eye has decided to cancel its “Even More Plus” plan, which never even got off the ground. T-Mobile intended to launch two promotional unlimited plans this week — Even More and Even More Plus — but the Plus plan was apparently cancelled with no explanation. T-Mobile has informed retail locations that they should not offer the plan to customers even if it has already appeared in their systems. Both the $79.99 Even More and the $59.99 Even More Plus plans offered unlimited voice calling, unlimited messaging and unlimited data — with a 2GB soft cap and throttling thereafter — but Even More was for postpaid subscribers while Even More Plus could be had by month-to-month customers. Alas, T-Mobile subscribers will now need a contract in order to get Even More. More →

T-Mobile's HSPA+ mobile hotspot set to launch April 13th, suggest rumors

Intel gathered by blog TmoNews suggests that T-Mobile’s HSPA+, 4G mobile hotspot will be released this Wednesday, April 13th. First seen at CTIA last month, the hostspot will provide connectivity for up to five Wi-Fi enabled device’s on the company’s wireless network. While we don’t know which HSPA+ radio the device will be packing — 21Mbps or 42Mbps — we do know that it will have a built-in VPN client and “optional SMS” support. We snapped a few images of the little, partially-green, Internet throwing machine (that wouldn’t power on) on the CTIA showroom floor. Have a look for yourself.

Intel pegs T-Mobile G2X for April 15th release

Blog Android Central has been slipped a scintillating sliver of information suggesting that T-Mobile’s G2X handset will launch on April 15th. The full-touchscreen, NVIDIA Tegra 2 device was announced back in March, but its release date has been somewhat of a mystery. The G2X will run an unmodified version of Android 2.2, sport a 4-inch display, 8 megapixel rear-facing camera, HDMI-out, and a host of other high-end features. The handset will also contain a 21Mbps HSPA+ radio. If you live in the States, your tax returns aren’t due until the 18th this year, so there will be no excuses for you not to pick up a G2X come the 15th. Until then, check out our two hands-on posts from CTIA. More →

Image of AT&T’s LG Optimus One hits the Internet

Blog PocketNow has acquired an image of what is presumed to be AT&T’s variant of the LG Optimus One. The popular, mid-level device — which sports a 3.2-inch touchscreen display, 800MHz processor, and largely unmolested version of Android 2.2. — is available on a half-dozen regional and national U.S. carriers. We would expect the device to be released under the moniker Optimus A — as is customary: Optimus + first letter of carrier name — but with AT&T, you never really know. If you read our report from earlier this morning, you’ll know that Android handsets costing under $150 are projected to be big business in 2011. More →

HTC Pyramid to launch in late-May on SFR, rumor suggests

An image procured by French site FrAndroid suggests that HTC’s unannounced — but well documented — Pyramid handset may be scheduled for a European release in very the near future. This site’s source indicated that the 1.2GHz, 4.3-inch handset should be landing on French carrier SFR sometime in “late-May.” HTC recently announced an April 14th media event, and the Pyramid is popular announcement prognostications from technology pundits.
