Nokia’s N9 seen in brief teaser video

Nokia’s N9 handset has made a brief cameo via a one-minute, official-looking video clip. What do we learn from said video? Not a heck of a lot. What we do see is a 12-megapixel camera complete with Carl Zeiss optics flash before our eyes, and the iconography seen suggests that the device will be a Symbian offering complete with the Anna software update. The rumor mill states the N9 will be a pentaband GSM handset that could make an appearance stateside, although… since Nokia is going all-in with Windows Phone, we’re not sure what the fate of this handset is. The video is after the break. Have a look for yourself.

Apple’s new iPod nano may feature 1.3-megapixel camera, clipless body

Apple’s new iPod nano may feature 1.3-megapixel camera, clipless body

Apple’s next-generation iPod nano may ditch the clip design and instead feature a 1.3-megapixel camera, according to leaked images posted by Taiwanese blog Apple.pro. The overall design of the unit looks similar to the current iPod nano, although there’s a chrome border around the new camera and the metal exterior has a noticeably deeper green hue, which suggests new colors are on the way. We’re a bit surprised at the lack of a clip on the nano, though, as most people we’ve seen with the music player use it — so perhaps it’s possible the clip can be removed to expose the camera lens. Either way, the form factor definitely matches earlier leaks of the next-generation iPod nano. More →

Samsung's Galaxy S II gets second commercial [video]

Samsung's Galaxy S II gets second commercial [video]

The first commercial promoting Samsung’s new flagship Android handset — the Galaxy S II — was a bit bland. And while we can’t say this second commercial sport has blown us out of the water, it does a much better job accentuating one of the device’s new enhanced features, Voice Talk. Bottom line: if you find yourself in the Arctic — wearing a parka, mukluks, and mittens — Voice Talk is going to be extremely useful. The thirty-second clip is after the break.

White iPhone with new multitasking UI purportedly spotted in Vietnam [video]

White iPhone with new multitasking UI purportedly spotted in Vietnam [video]

Vietnamese site tinhte.vn has published a video of what it is claiming might be the iPhone 5 — though it is more likely to be a white iPhone 4 with a storage bump — running a test version of iOS that includes a new multitasking UI and a revamped Spotlight search function. The minute-plus clip shows a new application switcher in action, complete with a handful of crashing apps. The video could be a custom UI skin running on a jailbroken iPhone, but this site has a history of solid scoops so we’re more likely to believe that this is a test build of iOS that is indeed running on a white iPhone 4. The video is after the break — have a look and let us know what you think.

UPDATE: According to another video from tinhte.vn, this iPhone is running test build 8A216 of iOS 4.

U.S. iTunes Music store extending song previews to 90 seconds

U.S. iTunes Music store extending song previews to 90 seconds

According to blog Symphonic Distribution, Apple will be extending the length of song previews in its U.S. iTunes Music store from 30 seconds to 90 seconds. The information comes courtesy of an email being sent around to “label representatives” that reads:

We are pleased to let you know that we are preparing to increase the length of music previews from 30 seconds to 90 seconds on the iTunes Store in the United States. We believe that giving potential customers more time to listen to your music will lead to more purchases.

The communication goes on to say that the letter legally modifies the U.S. Digital Music Download Sales Agreement that was previously in effect. The communication did not mention when the new music preview length would be implemented or if there are plans to expand the offering worldwide.
