Call of Duty: Black Ops has the best game ending of all time, Guinness World Records says

Guinness World Records recently polled 13,519 gamers in search of the greatest video game ending of all time. When the dust cleared, a winner was revealed — Call of Duty: Black Ops. The popular first-person shooter was released last year and went on to become one of the best-selling video game of all time. Second place went to the popular Xbox-exclusive Halo: Reach, the 13-year old The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time came in third, and God of War and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 rounded out the top five. “Everyone has an opinion on how to end a game whether it’s an epic boss fight, a clever plot twist or a 90-minute movie,” Guinness World Records gaming editor Gaz Deaves said. “This list recognizes some of the greatest endings and hopefully will get gamers talking about what are their favorites and why.” Read on for the full list. Call of Duty: Black Ops Escalation for Xbox 360 landing on May 3rd

On Monday, gaming site Major Nelson wrote that Activision has revealed it will launch the next expansion pack for Call of Duty: Black Ops for Xbox 360 on May 3rd. Dubbed “Escalation,” the new downloadable content — for Xbox LIVE subscribers — will sport five new maps, including four that can be played in multiplayer mode. New maps include “Hotel,” where you’ll battle on the roof of a Cuban hotel and casino, a Russian “Zoo,” a WMD “Stockpile”, and “Convoy.” And what’s an update without some more zombies? Escalation will reportedly offer a new “Zombie experience,” with new playable characters. ‘Call of Duty: Black Ops’ sales surpass $1 billion

Activision announced Tuesday the third major record-breaking milestone achieved by its recent smash hit, Call of Duty: Black Ops. The latest addition to Activision’s Call of Duty franchise first set a new launch-day sales record when it racked up $360 million in first-day sales. Then Activision bested its previous five-day sales record when Black Ops did $650 million in sales over its first five days of availability. Now, Activision has announced that its massively popular first-person shooter pulled in over $1 billion in less than a month. “In all of entertainment, only Call of Duty and “Avatar” have ever achieved the billion dollar revenue milestone this quickly,” said Activision CEO Bobby Kotick in a statement. “This is a tribute to the global appeal of the Call of Duty franchise, the exceptional talent at Treyarch and the hundreds of extraordinary people across our many Call of Duty studios including Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer that work tirelessly on the franchise. ‘Call of Duty: Black Ops’ grosses record-setting $650 million in five days

Activision announced Thursday that Call of Duty: Black Ops has set a new five-day entertainment industry record, grossing over $650 million globally. Following the first-day record Activision announced last week, the company’s latest smash hit breaks the previous $550 million five-day sales record set last year by Call of Duty title, Modern Warfare 2. “Call of Duty has become the first entertainment property in history to set five-day launch records for two consecutive years across all forms of entertainment,” said Activision Blizzard CEO, Robert Kotick, in a statement.  ”The title’s success illustrates the mass appeal of interactive entertainment as millions of consumers are choosing to play Call of Duty: Black Ops at unprecedented levels rather than engage in other forms of media.” Also somewhat predictable were the two Xbox LIVE records set by Black Ops on launch day — the title was played by more than 2.6 million unique players who logged over 5.9 million multiplayer hours — and the  PlayStation 3 launch sales records set at both Amazon.com and GameStop. ‘Call of Duty: Black Ops’ shatters first day sales record


When Activision released Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 last year, it set an all time record for launch day sales. The highly anticipated first person shooter sold 4.7 million copies in its first day of availability, amounting to $310 million in sales. Earlier this week, Activision released the latest title in the Call of Duty franchise and the gaming behemoth somehow managed to best itself. On launch day alone, 5.6 million copies of Call of Duty: Black Ops were sold in the U.S. and U.K., amounting to $360 million in retail sales. Activision said it was also on pace to break the $550 million five-day sales record it set last year with Modern Warfare 2. “The game’s success underscores the pop culture appeal of the brand,” Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick said in a statement. “Call of Duty: Black Ops is the finest game that Treyarch has ever made and raises the bar for online gameplay by delivering the deepest and most intense Call of Duty experience yet.” More →

Call of Duty: Black Ops stolen during black op

Earlier this week, news circulated that retail copies of the highly anticipated Activision title Call of Duty: Black Ops had been stolen from a printing press in Alabama. Reports were confirmed Wednesday as a video showing off a stolen disk along with a few moments of game play was posted to YouTube. If there were still any questions as to the authenticity of the disk, Activision answered those questions when it ordered the removal of the aforementioned video along with several images depicting the unreleased game. Call of Duty: Black Ops will be the latest addition to Activision’s wildly successful Call of Duty franchise. It is expected to break numerous sales records when it launches ahead of the holidays next month on November 9 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Windows PCs.
