BlackBerry Torch 9810, Torch 9850/9860 unveiled

Three torches, two form factors, one goal: silence the critics. Research In Motion on Wednesday unveiled three new additions to the popular Torch family, the Torch 9810, the Torch 9850 and the Torch 9860. The latter two handsets are GSM and CDMA variants of the same device, a full touchscreen smartphone that hopes to pick up where the Storm series left off. Launching later this month with AT&T, the Torch 9810 is a touchscreen smartphone with a QWERTY slider that one-ups the original Torch in nearly every area. Both phones carry the new BlackBerry 7 operating system — no, not QNX, we’re afraid — on top of big, bright displays and solid hardware. RIM noted that in combination with the already-announced Bold 9900, these smartphones will launch on more than 225 carriers around the world. “This is the largest global launch of BlackBerry smartphones in our history,” said RIM Co-CEO Mike Lazaridis in a statement. “The BlackBerry solution offers a best-in-class mobile communications experience that customers love and we think they will be thrilled by the faster performance, enhanced browsing and richer multimedia delivered by these powerful new BlackBerry Bold and BlackBerry Torch smartphones.” The new Torches and the Bold 9900 will begin rolling out later this month. RIM's 2011 BlackBerry lineup explained

We broke the news on practically all of RIM’s 2011 BlackBerry smartphones, and even scored some hands-on time with more than a couple of them. We wanted to take a minute to highlight the new products coming out of Waterloo now that all of the phones have leaked in some form. Remember, a lot of these are codenames that obviously won’t make it to retail — this is how the company keeps track of the devices internally and sometimes a single product can have multiple codenames. BlackBerry Torch 2 hands-on!

BlackBerry Torch 2 hands-on!

We’re not done, folks! In addition to getting some hands-on time with the BlackBerry Touch (Monaco / Monza) and the BlackBerry Bold Touch, we’re back at it again with an exclusive hands-on with the BlackBerry Torch 2. This is really what the original Torch should have been; instead of an underpowered, under-spec’d handset, the Torch 2 really offers a great experience from what we have seen so far. Physically, the unit is identical to the original Torch with the same physical dimensions, though the internal changes are pretty massive — at least, relative to the original Torch. The 640 x 480-pixel display looks absolutely great on the BlackBerry Torch 2, and with a 1.2GHz CPU paired with OS 6.1, this thing could light a fire. We are told that the BlackBerry Torch 2 is tracking for a July release on AT&T, with an announcement at Blackberry World in May, of course. Check out the rest of our BlackBerry Torch 2 photos in our hands-on gallery!

Exclusive: BlackBerry Torch 2 gets detailed

Research In Motion’s “best BlackBerry ever” — the BlackBerry Torch — definitely wasn’t the most competitive device to hit the smartphone market place. But it looks like RIM is trying to change all that with a new take on its QWERTY, horizontal-slider: the BlackBerry Torch 2. BGR has exclusively obtained a photo of the BlackBerry Torch 2 along with the device’s full specifications. Was the Torch’s 600MHz CPU a bit too underpowered for you? You’re in luck, as we can now confirm that the BlackBerry Torch 2 will feature a 1.2GHz CPU with hardware acceleration. Full specifications after the break! More →
