All AT&T, Sprint and Verizon phones from Amazon now just a penny

There is no need to wait until Black Friday or Cyber Monday to get a new smartphone at a great price. Amazon is now offering every smartphone it carries for AT&T, Verizon or Sprint for as low as $0.01 with a new contract. To be clear, you’ll need to sign up for a new line or be a new customer with one of the carriers, otherwise you’ll pay standard upgrade pricing. The promotion includes most new high-end smartphone models such as the DROID RAZR, the Galaxy S II, the HTC Rezound 4G, the Samsung Focus S, the BlackBerry Bold 9930 and more. Unfortunately, you’ll need to purchase an iPhone elsewhere: Amazon’s AmazonWireless subsidiary doesn’t carry the iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 or iPhone 4S. Amazon is also offering a $100 “Hotspot Holidays” promotion in which customers who sign up for a hotspot data plan will receive a $100 Amazon.com credit. The penny special begins now and ends on Cyber Monday, November 28th. More →

11″ or 13″ MacBook Air?

By on November 26, 2010 at 1:55 PM.

11″ or 13″ MacBook Air?

We covered the fact Apple is taking around $100 off Mac purchases today online at Apple.com as well as in Apple retail stores, but with $100 off, the 11″ MacBook Air with 128GB drive is effectively the same price as the 13″ MacBook Air with 128GB drive. Our question to you is, which one would you get, and is anyone taking Apple up on their Black Friday offer? We went with the 13″ laptop, but the 11″ is still tempting us from afar. More →

Dell will pay you to take an HTC DROID Incredible

Dell will pay you to take an HTC DROID Incredible

Looking for more excuses to avoid battling the Black Friday crowd? How’s this for a deal: the Dell Mobility Store will pay you $25 to take an HTC DROID Incredible — seriously. Dell is currently offering Verizon Wireless’ HTC DROID Incredible for free with a 2-year activation. Shipping is also free, and Verizon’s activation fee is waived. On top of all that, you’ll get a complimentary $25 Dell gift card with your order. We’re not sure there’s a better deal to be found right now. Of course the DROID Incredible is a little long in the tooth these days, and we’re not sure its specs will be overly competitive in 2 months let alone 2 years. But for the smartphone lightweight in your life who just needs a decent device, Dell’s deal is as good as it gets. More →

AT&T offers Black Friday WP7 BOGO, but it’s not much of a deal

AT&T offers Black Friday WP7 BOGO, but it’s not much of a deal

AT&T and Microsoft want to brighten your holidays while simultaneously lightening your pockets, but wise shoppers will likely look elsewhere. AT&T is offering up a free Samsung Focus, HTC Surround or LG Quantum on Black Friday when one of the aforementioned Windows Phones is purchased at full retail, or $199.99. Of course they’re all great phones, but online retailers like Amazon already have that deal beat. AmazonWireless is offering the Focus, Surround and Quantum for $49.99 each and you don’t even have to wait until Friday to order. The retailer also throws free shipping and waived activation fees into the mix. So really, the only reason to go for AT&T’s deal at twice the price of Amazon’s is if the Focus strikes your fancy — Samsung’s WP7 handset is backordered at Amazon and likely won’t start shipping again for a couple of weeks. Apple’s Black Friday sale teaser posted to website

Apple’s Black Friday sale teaser posted to website

There are plenty of ways to spend your money on Black Friday, but some people are too lazy to be bothered with trekking out before sunrise and battling mobs of shoppers. Or maybe there are still a few people out there with some self respect. In either case, we have to cherish every opportunity to save some dough this Black Friday that doesn’t involve elbowing 60-year-old women in the jaw. While the words “Apple” and “sale” don’t align as often as most would like, the crew from Cupertino apparently decided to take advantage of the sale craze this year. A teaser is now up on Apple’s site inviting customers to visit the Apple Online Store this Friday for “dozens of great iPad, iPod, and Mac gifts.” We doubt Apple’s deals will be spectacular, but it will be nice to save a few bucks if you were already planning on ordering up some new Apple kit. It all goes down on Friday, November 26th, so get those credit cards ready. More →

Google and HTC launching Chrome tablet with Verizon?

Google and HTC launching Chrome tablet with Verizon?

Are Google and HTC planning to launch an Android tablet on Verizon Wireless before the holidays? According to Download Squad, yes. They even have the launch date pegged for November 26th — Black Friday, of course! While it isn’t a surprise Google wants this thing out in the market ASAP, it is a little strange that this is the first we’re hearing of it. In any case, if the rumors hold true, we could be looking at a very heavily subsidized device by Verizon. Possibly even free, though $199 would sound more reasonable. As far as specifications go, here is what’s being reported: the device will most probably be based on NVIDIA’s Tegra 2 platform, have 2 GB of RAM, a 32 GB SSD, 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, front-facing camera, and a 1280 x 720 multitouch display. Now, couple that with the rumored Motorola and Samsung tablets and we’d say Google really isn’t playing around anymore. More →

Verizon to launch LTE network on November 15th, handsets on Black Friday

Verizon to launch LTE network on November 15th, handsets on Black Friday

verizon-wireless-logo1

This information comes from a new tipster, but we have very good reason to believe that Verizon will begin rolling out its LTE network in 25 markets starting on November 15th. While 25 markets might not sound like a lot, but apparently they’re enough to give 100 million subscribers access to the next-generation wireless network. LTE handsets will not be immediately available at launch, but Verizon is planning to release “a slew of new devices” on Black Friday which is on November 26th. LTE data plans will indeed be tiered, but Big Red won’t be pulling a Sprint and charing a $10 premium for access to its 4G network. Oh, and don’t be surprised if Verizon starts harping about how its “empowering the user” with open devices.

Thanks, C.! More →

Apple's Black Friday: online sales way up, retail Mac sales down

Apple's Black Friday: online sales way up, retail Mac sales down

Apple Banner BF

We gave you a glimpse of Apple’s Black Friday deals a bit early this year, and now, Piper Jaffray Apple-lover analyst Gene Munster has chimed in with some numbers to let us know exactly how the iVendor did. The world’s favorite iPod maker saw online sales increase by a staggering 39% this Black Friday — compare with this years average of 11% growth in online sales — which was driven by a mere 2% boost in web traffic. That is just about where the good news ends however, as G-Mizzle states that Apple Stores were selling, “8.3 Macs per hour, down from 13 Macs per hour last year” on Black Friday. Now, Munster uses an extremely scientific formula, one the consists of visiting three Apple Stores and counting how many Mac’s they are selling per hour, and while this formula is in all likelihood potentially flawed, it does show a decline in year-over-year sales as the economy continues to slump — note that the increase in Apple Store locations was not taken into account by this “formula.” Even with this decree Munster still thinks Apple will hit its Wall Street predicted December number. Thanks Gene, all of your insights are, as always, extremely helpful. More →
