We’ve sort of done some light podcasting, a couple radio-themed segments, and all, but we’re interested to know if you want a weekly no bull news recap / opinion-influenced podcast with the BGR staff. If you do, we’ll do it. See how much power you have right there with that computer mouse?
Excited for the iPhone 4 to officially launch? Many people are, and lots are lined up all across the world for the launch today. We’re live on location at the flagship 5th Avenue Apple Store covering the launch and will be updating this throughout the day. Plus, we have some awesome BGR gear to giveaway if you swing by… Check out our coverage after the break! More →
As many of you have noticed the comment rating system has been down for about a week, so, in the spirit of mindless customer service lines you usually hear, allow us to formally say: “We’re aware of the issue and working just as fast as we can to get it resolved. We apologize for any inconvenience and value your business.” Okay, now seriously…here’s what happened. As you may, or may not, have heard we were acquired by our new best friends over at MMC. After we exchanged friendship rings with MMC, and made our very own secret handshake, our new BFF decided to give us some space on their sexy server farm that BGR.com now lives on. During the porting process the rating system was, how do you say, “adversely affected.” It will be back up soon, but in the meantime…try and get along with one another. Sharing is caring after all.
Since we have a brand new office in the heart of New York City, school is basically done, and we are growing faster than ever, we are looking for die-hard BGR interns for the summer. If you think you are up for working with us, hit us up. Please live in NYC or be able to quickly commute. Also, we would be looking for someone who could put in a decent amount of time — at least around 20-30 hours per week.
If you would like to apply, hit the break for the finer details! More →
I wanted to share some amazing news with you all.
I am happy to report that BGR has been acquired by MMC. Moving forward, CEO of MMC Jay Penske and I are partners on BGR, and I couldn’t be happier. This will allow BGR to grow enormously. From a more comprehensive and diverse editorial staff — all the way to the relaunching of BGR as BGR.com with new features and functionality, the site will advance dramatically and continue our mission: to break the biggest stories in this category possible. I am the President, Editor-in-Chief, and General Manager of BGR, and will continue to run the business as well as the editorial aspects of the site — nothing will change there.
BGR was started by myself, Jonathan Geller, a little more than four years ago. In that time, it has grown from just a small passion project into a profitable, dominant online business that is ranked with some of the biggest sites on the web. As I write this, BGR is, according to Technorati, ranked #49 out of every single site in the world. When I think back about how this was accomplished, and how with just a few great writers, and practically no infrastructure, we built something pretty mind blowing… I can’t wait to hit #1.
Thank you for making BGR your daily go-to for the latest mobile and gadget news, we will have more information over the coming weeks on what we are working on to make BGR better than ever. Press release is after the break!

Kind of went for an opposite color vibe on this one. Maybe we’ll give it away in a bit, or something… what do you think? Pictures are in the gallery if you’d like to see some more shots. Also, special thanks to Colorware for the hook up!
New location just opened, and if you mention this post you get 0% off. Stop having a boring life.
Thanks, to everyone that sent this one in! More →
No, your eyes aren’t deceiving you… we’ve just rolled out a brand new redesign of BGR! There are so many amazing things we’re proud of and it just felt time that we freshened up the site. We’ve dramatically improved comments and you can vote them up or down (lowest voted comment will be hidden with an option to view them) and we’ve streamlined how posts are displayed. But that’s not it. Check out our color-coded badges for important categories like breaking news or featured posts to help you keep track of them, an improved and redesigned gallery is coming ASAP, plus we’re also introducing a brand new feature called BGR Whispers. Think of this as Twitter for BGR. You won’t find us telling you anything personal, but what it will enable us to do is post information we’re hearing that’s not confirmed. Basically its place is between something we’d tweet and something we’d post — not confirmed enough to warrant a real post, but definitely intriguing enough to share. Expect a whole heap of those.
We’re also taking this opportunity to re-brand the site as BGR. That’s how we’re referred to 99% of the time, will enable us to expand on our content while always kicking ass in the mobile/gadget space, and hey, it’s just easier to say.
Special thanks to our guys at Out:think web design and development. They put up with our crazy requests, took abuse daily, and did an awesome job.
Feedback is of course welcome in the comments. Enjoy!
You guys might have heard that we’ve (Beejive and BGR) been plugging away at TweetGenius behind the scenes since we announced our initial partnership. The entire program has been redone from the ground up and there’s literally too many fantastic changes and new features to list, but we’ll try and give you a taste of some:
- Innovative direct-from-application Twitpic photo uploading
- Inline image viewing for Twitpic, Twitgoo, img.ly, TweetPhoto, yfrog images
- GPS location posting
- Themes: comes with two different themes for viewing tweets. More are coming soon!
- Shortcut icons (reply, retweet, direct message)
- Status bar to show you necessary information like time, signal status, etc
Those are just a couple examples of what’s been changed, but what you’ll find is that the program is incredibly quick and gives users a desktop-class Twitter experience. We’re happy to announce that as a special thank you to all our original customers, TweetGenius v1.0.9 will be exclusively available to them for a period of two weeks before our worldwide launch. And, it’s available immediately for download. Hit the break for some screenshots and the download link!
Love gadgets? Are you the dedicated IT guy in your family? Have some writing experience? Dream about fondling the latest and greatest? Well, you’re in luck! We’re looking for a full-time editor (preferably on the East Coast) as well as a couple additional writers. If you’re interested, hit the jump for the necessary details!
You judge us every day in the comments section and now it’s our turn to return the favor! Last month we told you about a big promotion Comcast is currently running and now that things are coming down to the wire, we wanted to remind you guys to enter. In short, contestants use Comcast’s virtual room designer to build their own virtual pads in Comcast Town. The judges, your pals at BGR included, will then judge each room and the top ten finalists will go on display for a community vote. One lucky winner will be selected to win up to $30,000 in prizes including a brand-new 40-inch Sony BRAVIA HDTV, a Sony VAIO AW laptop and a Philips digital phone. Are you independently wealthy and already living in the lap of luxury? Move along, nothing to see here. If you’re like the rest of us though and the recession’s got you down, there’s no better way to get your hands on a truckload of free gear than Comcast’s contest. Entries must be submitted by 11:59PM PT for a chance to win so get a move on…
Here’s the deal… Comcast just launched this big marketing initiative called ComcastTown (you’ve probably seen the ads on BGR by now) and we’ve agreed to be judges. We wouldn’t participate in a campaign that we didn’t like ourselves and the ComcastTown.com concept is actually pretty cool. Here’s how it works: Using an interactive design interface, you can set up your own apartment using a whole boat load of available stuff — furniture, electronics and even some BGR-specific items, too. We and other people judge it and if you win, Comcast will redecorate your apartment with whatever you created. Stuff like Sony BRAVIA HDTVs, Sony VAIO laptops, phones, and more all worth up to $30,000 are up for grabs for your apartment. Comcast didn’t tell us if they’d include Comcast service but if you win, we’re pretty sure we could con them into it. You can see our apartment up above, but maybe you can do better? Hit the read link if you’d like to participate!
You know the drill by now… Colorware isn’t an afterthought after you buy your brand spankin’ new device, it’s a pre-thought. Meaning, you’re hoping Colorware is all setup to customize whatever device you fancy even before you’ve actually gotten a hold of it. They were nice enough to hook up DJ Clue and myself, and while I haven’t had a chance to take some pictures of his device, there’s a couple of mine over here. Just don’t let me catch you rockin’ the BGR sig, ya dig? Pictures are after the break!
