Google appears ready to fix its Google TV problem, its Android-based TV platform that failed to reshape the TV business despite the promises and hype, with a new report revealing that a rebranded Android TV set-top box-like platform is in the works. Google’s ‘Nexus TV’ may feature console gaming capabilities

Google has apparently purchased parts of Green Throttle Games, a company briefly known for its Android-based Atlas gaming controller and accessories that could offer Android gameplay on the TV. The tech giant apparently plans to include gaming features in its upcoming set-top TV box, PandoDaily reveals. It’s not clear how much Google paid for the company, and strangely, only two of the company’s co-founders will be working for Google moving forward. But Google did confirm the deal. More →

Google TV to finally get the ax as Android TV takes its place

It is fairly safe at this point to call Google TV a failed experiment. Google secured several partners for the service and dozens of Google TV-powered set-top boxes and smart TVs have launched over the years — but consumers never really cared. At all. One early Google TV partner went as far as to call the decision to build a Google TV box a mistake that cost the company dearly.
