Have an LG Ally? Just love those soft updates? Well, Verizon Wireless is rolling out an update for the LG Ally starting this weekend. The update contains bug fixes and minor OS Improvements including:

  • Increased QWERTY keyboard operability.
  • Streamlined alert functions.
  • Improved usability with alert sounds for authentication or confirmation of Bluetooth® functions.
  • Increased speed and response time for Messaging and Camera applications.
  • Manage your schedule with preloaded Corporate Calendar application.
  • Improved Amazon MP3 application.
  • Preloaded Backup Assistant application is now available.
  • Enjoy an enhanced preloaded Visual Voicemail application.
  • Sync Facebook contacts with a new preloaded application.

Folks with LG’s Android device should keep their eyes open for the new software which should be delivered wirelessly over the next few days. More →

We’re sure you know all about the upcoming LG Ally from Verizon, thanks to yesterday’s exclusive scoop, but just in case you’re having a bit of amnesia, here’s what you need to know. Verizon has officially announced that online pre-orders for the Android 2.1, QWERTY, slider phone start tomorrow — May 13th — and the phone will be available nationwide on Thursday, May 20th. At $99.99 on a 2-year contract, after a $100 MIR, the Ally isn’t exactly cheap… but it’s definitely affordable. Look what we have here…details on the upcoming LG Ally; the entry-level, Android-powered handset that is poised to take on the Motorola Devour. Not nearly as promising as the rumored 1GHz, HD-capable Aloha, the Ally will ship with a 600MHz processor and 256 MB of RAM. The side slider will run Android 2.1 “with Google,” and a LG-flavored theme that is dominated by LG’s own calendar, Weather+Time, and Socialite widgets. Verizon Wireless also mucks up the UI makes its presence known with pre-installed Visual Voicemail and V CAST Media Manager — Backup Assistant will be coming soon via the Android Market. If you have been dying to know more about the Iron Man 2 tie-in LG Ally but were left sorely disappointed by its spec-less official announcement, then this is your lucky day. Thanks to a new teaser site from LG, we have a much better idea about the phone Running Android 2.1, the Ally is equipped with a 3.2″ touchscreen display, sliding QWERTY keypad, 3.2 megapixel camera, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Anyone planning to pick up the phone Tony Stark is pimping come May 20th on “America’s most reliable network”?

The LG Ally was unofficially announced in a press release from LG that promotes the upcoming Iron Man 2 movie. The bulk of the press release focuses on LG’s product lineup and its advertising campaign for the upcoming feature film but a little blurb at the end reveals some new details about the rumored LG Ally. According to the press release, the LG Ally is an Android-powered QWERTY slider that will feature an exclusive Augmented Reality app with Iron Man content and a special edition Iron Man 2 comic book. Though LG may be reticent to confirm the carrier in its press release, the images of the Ally on LG’s website reveal that the Android handset will launch with Verizon Wireless.
