PayPal hires Apple VP of Global Design

AllThingsD is reporting, by way of LinkedIn, that PayPal has just snatched up the VP of Global Design from Apple. The lucky lady is said to be Sarah Brody who has worked on the original iPhone, original iPod nano and was a “critical aspect in the design of” MobileMe. In addition to working on the aforementioned projects, she’s also responsible for the design of the product packaging boxes that are pictured above. Maybe PayPal’s website won’t look so sketchy anymore with this new hire? More →

CDMA iPhone and iPad 2 chatter grows ahead of Verizon’s January 11th announcement

Last Friday, technology-centric Internet sites exploded when news of a January 11th Verizon press conference broke. The nation’s largest wireless provider is expected to finally announce the highly-anticipated, oft-rumored, CDMA iPhone. Media outlets ranging from AllThingsD to the Wall Street Journal have emphatically proclaimed that an iPhone announcement is in the works. The publications have also reported that the unannounced device will have a truly unlimited data plan. Speculation is not, however, isolated to this one event and this one device. Digg founder Kevin Rose has thrown his hat into the ring with a next generation iPad prediction. Reporting on “good authority,” Mr. Rose notes:

Apple will be announcing the iPad 2 in the next “3-4 weeks”, possibly Tuesday February 1st. The iPad 2 will feature a retina display and front/back cameras.

Mr. Rose, who has speculated about Apple-specific announcements before and has a fairly reputable track record, did not offer any additional details about the device.

Whatever Verizon has planned, we’ll know at 11:00AM ET tomorrow.

Google taking Gingerbread out of the oven today? Android 2.3 release due?

Google taking Gingerbread out of the oven today? Android 2.3 release due?

Why not start off the week with an unconfirmed and tantalizing Android rumor, right? Thanks to one piece of known information, and one slightly more speculative nugget, the latest gossip has Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) due to drop sometime today. A few weeks ago, Google’s CEO Eric Schmidt quipped that his company’s next OS iteration, Gingerbread, would be available in “the next few weeks.” Combine that with an interesting one-liner from a Notion Ink press release:

“6th December is another big day for Android and you will find out how fast Notion Ink can work. (Eden is extremely compatible with 2.3).”

and you have all the ammunition you need for a sizzling internet rumor. If that still isn’t enough for you, Andy Rubin, Google’s VP of mobile platforms, is speaking at AllThingsD‘s D: Dive into Mobile event later this evening ( 6:30PM PT).

If you’re an Android enthusiast, throw salt over your left shoulder, keep your fingers and toes crossed, and charge up that Nexus One. Today could be a big day for you!

AllThingsD: HP’s Android slate delayed, won’t ship before end of the year

HP_Slate

Previously, HP had stated that they were on track to release an Android tablet before the end of 2010. Now, according to the sources of AllThingsD, this timeline is no longer valid. “HP’s Android slate has been delayed and won’t ship before the end of the year as planned,” wrote ATD. HP has, through its own admission, been developing a Windows 7, webOS, and Android tablet simultaneously. Perhaps this is a sign that HP is refocusing its efforts on its newly purchased webOS? Whatever the reason, we look forward to HP jumping into the tablet market. More →
