Facebook hits 750 million users milestone

Facebook now has 750 million monthly active users worldwide, TechCrunch reported on Friday. That’s incredible growth since our June 1st story, which suggested that the social network was closing in on 700,000,000 users worldwide. In that report, emerging markets showed the most growth —  Brazil’s user base jumped 11.4% in May alone — and the United States was the top country; U.S. users were responsible for 149.4 million Facebook accounts. Last July, Facebook announced that it had hit the 500 million user mark, but it hasn’t publicly revealed any figures since then. Facebook only measures active users and only counts those who have logged into the social network during the past 30 days. More →

Sony Ericsson outs Xperia ray, Xperia active, and txt [video]

During the CommunicAsia trade show in Singapore on Wednesday, Sony Ericsson officially took the wraps off of three new devices: the Xperia ray, the Xperia active, and the “txt.” The Android 2.3-powered Xperia ray sports a 9.4mm thin profile, a 3.3-inch “Reality” display with an 854 x 480 resolution, an 8.1-megapixel Exmor R camera, and a 1,500 mAh battery. The Xperia active also runs Gingerbread and offers a smaller 3-inch 480 x 320 Reality display and a 5-megapixel camera capable of recording HD video. It’s also dust proof and water resistant. Lastly, the txt is a budget-friendly feature phone with a relatively simple set of specs. It offers a 2.6-inch screen, a full QWERTY keyboard, and a 3.2-megapixel camera. Vizio announces over 21 Theater 3D HDTVs, passive glasses, up to 71-inch size

Vizio is currently the only manufacturer to have a passive 3DTV set on the market, and they aren’t slowing down their Theater 3D TV assault. The company has just announced that they will be releasing 21 models which range in sizes from 21-inches to 71-inches and feature varying LED backlit and edge lit models, sets with Yahoo! Widgets, and even a few Google TV televisions. Passive 3D TVs don’t require active, battery-powered glasses which are larger, heavier, and usually can cause greater eye strain than passive glasses. Plus, you’ll be able to rock those fashionable Oakley or Gucci 3D glasses — wins all around. Full press release after the break. More →
