Verizon employees see the Motorola Sholes and Calgary emerge in internal tools?

Okay, this one might be a bit of a difficult thing for some people to accept considering it involves something that few people know about, but we’re going to throw caution to the wind and run wild with it. At pretty much every single Verizon retail outlet they have these little gizmos known as “Cellebrites”. These Cellebrites are used by Verizon employees to transfer customers data from phone to phone. And gee whiz, would you guess what two devices have popped up in the latest update for the Cellebrite? If you guessed the Motorola A855 Sholes/Shules/Droid/Tao and the Calgary A555, you’d be bang on. Mmm hmm. And of course you know what this means, right? Yes indeed, we might soon be treated to some official details of the already accidentally/on-purpose leaked devices. Hit the jump or some more pics of the now celebrated Cellebrite.

Motorola Tao said to be getting official next week

Moto-Tao1

We here at BGR are well aware that Motorola’s Tao (aka Sholes) is the current object du désire for Android lovers and smartphone junkies alike, so we’re pretty encouraged by a rumor being peddled by The Street that would see Motorola announce the Tao next week. Ordinarily such rumors are approached with guarded skepticism (especially considering The Street’s not so hot track record of late), but we see no reason to doubt this particular tidbit. Not only is CTIA kicking off in San Diego on October 7th, but Motorola’s own developer conference, MOTODEV, also starts the very same week. Add in the fact that the Tao just recently got clearance from the FCC and someone felt brave enough to go wild with some pics of the device, and we’d say this phone is ready to burst onto the scene.

Thanks, Mike!

UPDATE: We’ve heard without a doubt that The Street (more like Skid Row) is wrong and this handset won’t be introduced next week.

Motorola Sholes passes the FCC with EV-DO and Wi-Fi on board

Motorola Sholes passes the FCC with EV-DO and Wi-Fi on board

If you’re a Verizon fan and a lover of all things Android, you were probably pretty upset earlier this month when Motorola’s Android event came and went with nary a peep about the Sholes. Don’t fret however, as relief is seemingly on the way soon enough — Motorola’s imminent second Android phone has just passed through the FCC. Pics, diagrams, manuals and pretty much all of the other goodies we typically see in an FCC filing have been withheld at the behest of Motorola (and presumably Verizon) but it’s not as if we don’t already know exactly what were dealing with here. As for when we can expect to see the Sholes hit store shelves across the nation, the latest rumor has it coming sometime next month just in time to show Sprint and its chinless Hero who the nation’s largest wireless carrier is. So what say you Android fans — Hero or Sholes?
