Verizon’s Motorola DROID X2 will launch on May 26th for $199.99

Motorola on Wednesday announced that its sequel to the popular DROID X smartphone will launch later this month. The Motorola DROID X2 will become available for pre-order on May 19th and will launch on May 26th, as previously rumored. The device will cost $199.99 with a new two-year contract, and will feature a 4.3-inch touchscreen display, a dual-core 1GHz processor, Android 2.3 (Gingerbread), an 8-megapixel camera with support for HD video capture, an HDMI-out port, a case that is nearly identical to the original Motorola DROID X, and “double the does,” according to Verizon Wireless. Motorola DROID X2 user guide hits the web

The Motorola DROID X2 is definitely taking a page from the DROID Incredible 2′s playbook. That is: we know almost everything about this phone although Verizon Wireless has yet to officially announce it. Bearing that in mind, it should come as no surprise that the DROID X2′s user guide has hit Motorola’s official website. The guide confirms that the X2 will be a dual-core, 1GHz device with a 4.3-inch display and qHD resolution. It also confirms that the handset’s form will be nearly identical to that of the original DROID X; released just one year ago. HTC Lead for AT&T image and spec sheet leaked

Pocketnow has gotten its hands on an image of the HTC Lead from AT&T, and 911 Sniper has leaked a few of the specs. Neither AT&T nor HTC have announced the Lead yet, but it’s rumored to sport a 1.2GHz dual-core Qualcomm MSM8660 processor — which we first saw in the T-Mobile HTC Sensation 4G — 768MB of RAM, a 4.3-inch WVGA display, and a 5-megapixel camera. It’s unclear when the Lead will launch, but the device is rumored to run Android 2.3.4 (Gingerbread), which could make it the first Gingerbread device on AT&T. There’s no word of HSPA+ support, but we’d be stunned if this device launched without a 4G label glued to the end of its name. More →

Motorola DROID X2 could launch May 26th

Verizon Wireless was rumored to be launching the follow up to its popular Motorola DROID X smartphone on Thursday, but Thursday has come and gone and there’s no X2 in sight. According to Android enthusiast blog Droid Life, the anticipated device is now slated to become available later this month on May 26th. A purported internal document suggests direct fulfillment will begin on the 19th followed by an in-store launch one week later. The document goes on to highlight the X2′s “brilliant” 4.3-inch qHD display, its dual-core 1GHz NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor, Adobe Flash Player 10 and an 8-megapixel camera with 720p HD video capture support. Samsung Galaxy S II hands-on

We didn’t just grab a Samsung Infuse 4G last night, we also took possession of the company’s latest flagship Android device, the Samsung Galaxy S II. This particular device supports AT&T’s 3G 4G bands which is a welcome feature, and while it looks nearly identical to the Infuse 4G, we have to say… this is now our favorite Android device out of Samsung. With a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 8-megapixel camera, and Android 2.3 Gingerbread all stuffed into a 8.49mm thin body, this phone is the one to beat. Samsung’s 4.27-inch Super AMOLED Plus display looks great on here, and the TouchWiz UI doesn’t seem to get in the way too much — at least not like it used to. With that said, Samsung’s included keyboard is useless due to its lack of autocorrect as you type — we really need to see this fixed as soon as possible. Battery life seems to be more than adequate in the limited time we’ve spent with the phone; specifically, standby time seems like it could go for days. We’ll be rocking away on a review of the Samsung Galaxy S II, but in the meantime, you know where to find the hands-on photos.

HTC Kingdom and Rider Android phones spotted

Here are a couple of leaks to kick off your Friday morning: the HTC Kingdom (left) and the HTC Rider (right) were both spotted and photographed recently by 911Sniper. Specs for the Rider and the Kingdom are slim, so we can only report on what’s apparent in the images. Both phones clearly run Android and appear to have 4.3-inch 960 x 540 qHD displays, although even that’s not confirmed. The circles around the main icons on the Rider remind us of an EVO device (perhaps this is Sprint bound?), and we definitely dig the red exterior. We doubt this is the last we’ll see of both phones, so we’re looking forward to clearer shots and more spec leaks in the coming weeks and months. More →

Verizon Samsung DROID Charge hands-on!

We just got our hands on a brand new Samsung DROID Charge from Verizon Wireless (thanks, FedEx!), and we’ve been checking out the carrier’s second 4G LTE smartphone for a little while. Here are some of our first impressions: Right out of the box we were blown away by the DROID Charge’s 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Plus screen; the blacks are so dark that it’s hard to see where the screen ends and the chassis starts, and colors really do pop. The phone is powered by a 1GHz processor, which feels fast, but the Charge also doesn’t seem to zip around the UI as quickly as some of the dual-core devices we’ve tested recently, such as the T-Mobile G2x. Part of the problem could be Samsung’s custom TouchWiz software, however, which runs on top of Android 2.2 (Froyo). The DROID Charge feels very solid —  albeit a bit big — and it reminds us of the Samsung Omnia II in some ways. The DROID Charge’s 4G LTE data speeds were very solid in our initial tests; our download throughput averaged 11.24Mbps down, and the phone uploaded at an average of 5.38Mbps. We’ll be working on our review over the next couple of days and we’ll be sure to address the 8-megapixel camera, battery life, 4G data speeds, call quality, and plenty more. Internal comparison pits DROID Charge against ThunderBolt, iPhone 4, other Verizon phones

Android enthusiast blog Android Central has obtained what appears to be an internal Verizon Wireless document that compares the upcoming Samsung DROID Charge to four other Verizon smartphones. The sheet lays out the Charge’s specs next to the HTC ThunderBolt, the Samsung Fascinate, the Motorola DROID 2 Global and the Apple iPhone 4, and the upcoming 4G phone certainly holds its ground against each device. The only previously unknown feature revealed by the document is the DROID Charge’s enhanced mobile hotspot functionality, which will support up to five devices in 3G coverage areas and up to 10 devices when connected to 4G. Finally, we should note that one key category — battery life — is noticeably absent from the comparison sheet. Considering the Charge’s massive display, 4G LTE compatibility and enhanced mobile hotspot feature, interested parties should likely plan on picking up an extra battery or three should they opt to buy a DROID Charge following its launch. HTC is expected to release the HTC Sensation — formerly known as the Pyramid — later today, and those suspicions were all but confirmed by the anxious folks over at Vodafone. In an early morning snafu, the company outed HTC’s 4.3-inch, touchscreen beast in all its glory. So what are we looking at? Glad you asked. The Sensation will sport a qHD, SLCD display that, as we’ve already mentioned, measures 4.3-inches on the diagonal. Sitting behind that formidable window will be a dual-core, 1.2GHz Snapdragon processor, 4GB of internal storage, microSD card slot, 8 megapixel rear-facing camera with dual LED flash, and a 1.2 megapixel front-facing camera. An image procured by French site FrAndroid suggests that HTC’s unannounced — but well documented — Pyramid handset may be scheduled for a European release in very the near future. This site’s source indicated that the 1.2GHz, 4.3-inch handset should be landing on French carrier SFR sometime in “late-May.” HTC recently announced an April 14th media event, and the Pyramid is popular announcement prognostications from technology pundits. It does seem unlikely that this particular handset will ever make its way Stateside, but a blogger can dream… can’t he? More →

Building on our coverage of the HTC EVO 3D from yesterday, we have a supplementary video that we would like to submit as evidence. While we weren’t allowed to navigate the device’s beta operating system with our own hands, an HTC representative was more than willing to give us a quick tour of the new features. The new lock screen, new homescreen layout, and general specifications of the phone are all covered in the clip. AT&T HTC HD7S Windows Phone hands-on!

We just whizzed by HTC’s booth at CTIA in Orlando to check out the HD7S, AT&T’s latest Windows Phone 7 monster. The HD7S rocks a large, beautiful 4.3-inch display that looked amazing, even under the blinding lights of the show floor. If you’ve handled a 4.3-inch HTC handset before, you know exactly what to expect from the HD7S. We couldn’t fully experience the device — from a feel-in-the-hand perspective — as it was bolted down to its charger with bulky, security hardware . If we had to pick up a Windows Phone 7 device on AT&T, it’d no doubt be the HD7S. Its large display easily fit most of the content on our homepage, and it was a breeze to read text even when fully zoomed out. The keyboard was large and lends itself to ripping off massive quantities of text messages and emails. We even tried the copy/paste feature, which is enabled on the HTC HD7S thanks to the NoDo update. It worked well, although we think Microsoft could have made the interface just a bit more intuitive — but that’s not the HD7S’ fault. Just like the EVO 4G and the T-Mobile HD7, the HD7S sports a metal kickstand, which means you can prop the device up on your desk for watching movies in landscape mode. As with most Windows Phone 7 devices we’ve used, the interface was snappy, and that’s likely due to the 1GHz processor under the hood. We’re definitely looking forward to spending more time with the HD7S when we get a review unit. In the meantime, hit gallery to have a look for yourself.

A live image of HTC’s unannounced Pyramid Android smartphone, rumored to possibly land on T-Mobile, has been leaked — and it looks a bit different than earlier renders. The Pyramid is sitting next to a Desire HD in the shot above, and based on its size we assume the speculation around the device having a 4.3-inch qHD display to be correct. Unlike last week’s leaked shot, though, the live version here shows a camera with dual-LED flash. Other rumors have suggested it will be powered by a 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, and it will pack 768MB of RAM. It is suggested that the Pyramid could land sometime in May, so hopefully HTC will put and end to the rumors with an announcement during CTIA this week.
