RadioShack quietly taking Sprint HTC EVO 3D pre-orders

We just got off the phone with a number of RadioShack locations, and each one has confirmed that the retailer is now quietly taking pre-orders for Sprint’s HTC EVO 3D. We were told that, interested users should rush to the store as pre-order quantities are very limited. Employees did not confirm when the EVO 3D would be available for pickup, although we suspect it won’t be a very long wait. Best Buy also began taking pre-orders earlier this month, but it too neglected to reveal when the phone would become available. We went hands-on with the EVO 3D during CTIA and were impressed by its glasses-free 3D display. We also loved the solid, albeit beefy, industrial design. More →

T-Mobile myTouch 4G Slide, aka HTC Doubleshot, specs leaked

T-Mobile myTouch 4G Slide, aka HTC Doubleshot, specs leaked

Someone call the plumber, HTC’s got a leak. Earlier today we reported on spilled shots of the HTC Kingdom and Rider phones, and now full specs for the rumored T-Mobile myTouch 4G Slide – also known as the HTC Doubleshot – have been dropped. According to Pocketnow, which analyzed the phone’s ROM, the device will run a dual-core 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8660 processor and pack a 3.7-inch WGA display, an 8-megapixel camera capable of (possibly) recording 1080p 3D video, a forward-facing VGA camera for video chat, FM radio, and more. Support for 3D playback also hints that the myTouch 4G Slide could sport a 3D display, although that hasn’t been confirmed. We also assume the aforementioned camera module will likely support just 720p 3D video recording and 1080p 2D recording, which would be in-line with the capabilities of Sprint’s EVO 3D. As its name implies, the device will also support T-Mobile’s HSPA+ 4G network. There aren’t photos of the myTouch 4G Slide yet, but we’re sure someone will loosen up the faucet soon enough. More →

Second hands on with T-Mobile’s LG G-Slate [video]

Second hands on with T-Mobile’s LG G-Slate [video]

We hit every booth on the show floor yesterday for a first go at every new phone and tablet we could find. Today, we made the rounds again, like the mad men we are, to shoot some video of the newest phones and tablets. Now, we present you with video of the LG G-Slate, which is headed to T-Mobile soon with a $529.99 price tag. The G-Slate has a real premium feel to it thanks to the metal back side, and its display was large and bright even under the lights here. While it’s not as sexy as the Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 that was just announced at CTIA and measures just 8.6mm thin, it’s going to hit the U.S. market first, making it that much more attractive. There are a lot of compelling features too, like its dual 5-megapixel cameras for shooting HD and 3D video — but it’s a bit of a letdown the G-Slate doesn’t have a 3D display for viewing that content first-hand. Enough of the nitty gritty, you can read our hands-on text from yesterday for more details and thoughts. Hit the jump for our video and definitely check out our gallery, too.

T-Mobile’s LG G-Slate Honeycomb tablet hands-on!

T-Mobile’s LG G-Slate Honeycomb tablet hands-on!

We just stopped by T-Mobile’s booth here in Orlando during CTIA to get up close and personal with the G-Slate, T-Mobile’s Android 3.0 Honeycomb tablet that’s capable of running on its 4G HSPA+ network. Right off the bat, one of our biggest issues was that the G-Slate was covered with fingerprints, a sign that it definitely lacks an oleophobic coating on the display. The tablet felt great in the hand though, and we really liked the metal on the back, which gives it a premium look and feel. Hit the jump for our thoughts, and check out our gallery of images that’ll give you a closer look at this sleek tablet.

LG confirms glasses-free Optimus 3D unveiling set for MWC

LG confirms glasses-free Optimus 3D unveiling set for MWC

LG confirmed on Tuesday that it will unveil what it calls “the world’s first 3D smartphone” at Mobile World Congress 2011 later this month. Details are very slim for the time being, but the main attraction on the upcoming LG Optimus 3D will be its glasses-free 3D experience coupled with a dual-lens camera capable of recording video in 3D. The phone will also feature an HDMI-out port and DLNA video streaming capability. LG will become the first to bet on 3D in cell phones and in light of the terrible quarter LG reported last week, we hope consumers will show more interest in 3D smartphones than they have in 3D televisions. Hit the break for LG’s press release.
