Root access obtained for TELUS MILESTONE

telus-milestone-3

In our review of the TELUS MILESTONE we lamented Motorola’s decision to digitally sign the bootloader which makes rooting quite difficult. Thankfully, over the past couple of days there has been a lot progress within the Android community and root access for the TELUS MILESTONE has obtained by way of a Brazilian sbf. Sadly kernel access is still absent, but at this point we guess we should just be happy we’ve made it this far. Hit up the read link for a full set of instructions.

Thanks, Arjun! More →

TELUS Motorola MILESTONE Review

telus-milestone-3

It’s been out in Canada for a little under three weeks now, but the Motorola MILESTONE has already proven itself to be quite the popular handset thanks in part to all of the Canadians watching American TV and witnessing Verizon’s huge media blitz for the DROID. For a device that has been on sale in one form or another for many months, we have to wonder — is the MILESTONE still worth it? Put on your reading glasses, sit back and relax, and join us after the jump for our hands on the the TELUS Motorola MILESONE to find out. More →

DROID to get an OTA update in the "coming weeks"

DroidLarge

Alongside today’s release of Android SDK 2.0.1, Verizon Wireless has announced that an OTA update for the Motorola DROID will be available “within the coming weeks.” What’s in line to be fixed? Voice reception and the 5 megapixel camera’s nearly legendary inability to focus on subjects, amongst other things. In case you glossed over the snippet of a quote above, we still don’t have an availability date, but the last time we took a look at the ol’ rumor mill it appeared December 11th was the special day. So sit back, relax by the fire with some egg nog and keep while we keep on the lookout for the first signs of release. We promise we’ll let you know.

iPhone 2.0.1 software released

iPhone 2.0.1 software released

We’re downloading it now, but woweee, it’s 250MB! Anyone care to comment? Even with all the languages included the biggest build we’ve ever seen was around 210MB…

Post will be updated

Ok, so far we’ve found 2.0.1 to be extremely more stable. This includes fixing the keyboard lag some users experienced, a speedier OS in general, and it seems to have fixed the god-awful contacts lag. Also we should note that applications install probably 10x faster now through iTunes. We’ve heard reports of a speedier backup as well. Good things all around. Just no copy and paste. Sad.

iPhone Device Software 2.0.1 on the way?

iPhone Device Software 2.0.1 on the way?

Every once in a while, we have a slow enough day at the BGR HQ that we sometimes put on our “nerd glasses” and peruse our web server logs for some nitty gritty information. As we are a fairly popular gadget and technology blog, (no, we’re not declaring war) it seems like a popular ‘first destination’ for many people who have loaded up the latest beta OS for an existing device or even unreleased devices not yet on the market.
