LG teases new 5-inch Optimus Vu Android smartphone [video]

LG recently began teasing a new smartphone that could very well make its debut during the Mobile World Congress trade show later this month. The device, dubbed the Optimus Vu, will offer a 5-inch display with a 4:3 aspect ratio, and rumor has it the phone will also come equipped with a 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, 8GB of storage, support for NFC, 1GB of RAM and an 8-megapixel camera. Unfortunately, the Optimus Vu will reportedly run Android 2.3 Gingerbread instead of the latest Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) operating system. So far we’re not seeing a whole lot to be excited about other than the massive screen, since most of the specs are similar to what we’ve already seen in the LG Optimus LTE phone. We expect LG will have more surprises up its sleeve during the show, however. More →

Samsung may unveil upgraded Galaxy S II LTE next week

The IFA trade show in Berlin kicks off on September 1st and Samsung has already made it known that it will have a big presence there. We’ve heard that it will announce the Samsung GALAXY Tab 7.7, the Wave 3, and the GALAXY Note but now Sammyhub suggests there could be more in store. Samsung could be preparing to take the wraps off of an upgraded GALAXY S II smartphone that could be the world’s first 4G LTE/WCDMA/GSM handset. The phone may also sport a faster 1.5GHz dual-core processor, an 8-megapixel camera, a 1,850 mAh battery and a 4.5-inch Super AMOLED Plus display. The rumor of NFC support definitely has us wondering if this will launch in the United States as the Android Ice Cream Sandwich-packing Nexus Prime, which is rumored to hit Verizon as a 4G LTE phone. The Hercules is expected to be T-Mobile’s version of the Galaxy S II, which Samsung will officially announce on August 29th during a press conference in New York City. It will of course sport a dual-core processor, Android 2.3 (Gingerbread), HSPA+ support, a Super AMOLED Plus display and other high-end specs. HTC Ruby detailed, big brother to HTC Sensation

HTC Ruby detailed, big brother to HTC Sensation

One of our sources was able to get some hands-on time with the HTC Ruby, a device that is said to be the “big brother to the HTC Sensation.” It’s going to feature a 4.3-inch display and a dual-core 1.5GHz processor, and our source says that any talk of the device being an entry-level phone is out of bounds; this is a flagship smartphone, and one that is not part of the myTouch family. T-Mobile reportedly hasn’t settled on a name for the device, though we can exclusively report that is going to be the first smartphone to run on T-Mobile’s incredibly fast 42Mbps HSPA+ network. The current launch is set for early Q4, so we’re still a couple months out unfortunately.

7-inch HP TouchPad Go leaked with 1.5GHz processor

HP’s TouchPad Go was recently approved by the the Federal Communications Commission, which revealed some information on the unannounced tablet. The webOS device could be equipped with a dual-core 1.5GHz processor and a 3G radio, which would indicate HP is looking to launch it with at least one U.S. carrier. We first heard word of a 7-inch TouchPad tablet in January of this year and the most recent rumors revealed that HP could launch the device this month. It is possible we’ll hear more about the TouchPad Go in the coming days, and we hope it gains more consumer traction than the original TouchPad, which just had its priced slash by $100 to make it more appealing.
