Galaxy S7 saves man from cruel Canadian winter by explosively warming his hands

It’s been a rough few months for Samsung. With the Galaxy Note 7 explosions, replacements, more explosions, and subsequent recall, the company is now doing its best to wash the bad taste out of the public’s mouth, but now a different Samsung smartphone has spontaneously combusted, and seriously injured its owner in the process.

Amarjit Mann, a 34-year-old man from Winnipeg, Manitoba, told the Winnipeg Sun that his Galaxy S7 began to feel warm while in his pocket as he was driving. Mann says he grabbed the phone from his jacket and that’s when all hell broke loose.

Samsung kicks off Android 7.0 beta program for Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge

It’s no secret that Android fans have a really hard time running the latest Android version on their non-Nexus devices. Google has not fixed this fragmentation problem, as Android updates are still controlled by device makers and carriers. Not including the Google Pixel, the hottest Android smartphones released this year are still on Android 6.0 Marshmallow. But some companies are already working on Android 7.0 updates, and Samsung just kicked off a Nougat beta program for its Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge flagships.

Extreme drop test pits the iPhone 7 against the Galaxy S7 from 1,000 feet

We’ve heard plenty of arguments about whether the iPhone 7 or the Galaxy S7 is faster. Both sides can use all sorts of different benchmarks and tests to make their case, but until now, we’ve never seen the most important speed tested: namely, which phone accelerates faster into the ground when dropped from 1,000 feet?

Samsung Note 7 Recall

Smartphone buyers in Samsung’s home country haven’t given up on Galaxy phones

Smartphone buyers in Samsung’s home country haven’t given up on Galaxy phones

Samsung’s battle to regain the trust of consumers after its Galaxy Note 7 ordeal will be a long and grueling one. There’s no question whatsoever that the company grossly mishandled things after reports of exploding handsets first started to emerge. Instead of recalling them and taking its time to investigate the cause of the Note 7 fires, Samsung rushed to issue replacement phones — and we all know what happened next.

A recent survey found that a whopping 40% of current Samsung phone owners in the US said they would never buy another Samsung phone, but opinions are heated right now so that figure is almost certainly inflated. If any company has the marketing budget and the product catalog to endure this debacle, it’s probably Samsung. And as the company begins its daunting climb, some good news has already emerged in its home country of South Korea. More →

Updates will bring Note 7 features to other Samsung phones

Samsung has officially discontinued the Galaxy Note 7, its most innovative and feature-packed smartphone ever. The company stopped production and issued a global recall following dozens of reports that “safe” replacement handsets were still exploding in the hands of users. We cannot urge strongly enough how important it is that all users return or exchange their Note 7 handsets immediately. But despite knowing the risks involved with continuing to use a Galaxy Note 7, many diehard fans love the phone so much that they’re unwilling to part with it despite the dangers they face.

Well, we have some good news for Galaxy Note 7 fans this morning: You don’t have to put yourself and those around you in danger in order to enjoy some of the Note 7’s exciting new features, because they’re headed to other Samsung phones. More →

Samsung will pay you if you don’t abandon its brand

Samsung’s second Galaxy Note 7 recall is now official, and the company is finally comfortable using the word “recall” to describe what’s currently happening with the phablet. The Galaxy Note 7 is unlikely to return to stores, as Samsung already stopped production and is looking to discontinue the model. But the company still has to replace a few million Galaxy Note 7 devices that are currently in use. Buyers can exchange the Note 7 for any other device, or ask for a full refund. Samsung is looking to keep its customers though, and will pay $100 to each person who sticks with the company by choosing a different Galaxy device. More →

Galaxy Note 7 vs. Galaxy S7 Recall

Samsung probably regrets skipping the ‘Galaxy Note 6’ name

Samsung probably regrets skipping the ‘Galaxy Note 6’ name

Samsung decided to skip the Galaxy Note 6 name for this year’s new flagship phablet and jump from Note 5 directly to Note 7. The move was supposed to align the numbers of the Galaxy Note and the Galaxy S so that customers wouldn’t be confused. The Galaxy Note 6 product name may have sounded like it’s a year behind the Galaxy S7. But Samsung probably regrets that decision now that the Galaxy Note 7 became the company’s best Android phone but also the worst mobile failure in the company’s history.
