Samsung S7 Active review: I can’t kill this indestructible smartphone

I remember when I first started writing about technology, my boss at the time told me all about how he protected his Nokia N97 by keeping it in a fleece-lined pocket with daily cleanings, just in case the camera accumulated dust or scratches.

I’ve never been remotely that careful with a gadget. My phones have been dropped, scratched, soaked, and for one unlucky handset, immersed in a bucket of paint. Phones like the indestructible Samsung Galaxy S7 Active are phones for people like me.

RAM is unleashed in OnePlus 3 vs. Galaxy S7 real-life speed test

It’s not deja-vu. We did see plenty of OnePlus 3 vs. Galaxy S7 real-life speed tests in recent months, some of them having surprising conclusions, but these comparisons are far from over. The Galaxy S7 is one of the best and fastest Android handsets money can buy. But with 6GB of RAM on board, the OnePlus 3 should be even faster.

The Chinese company fixed its RAM management problems it had following its mid-June launch, and the OnePlus 3 now looks like an entirely different phone. More →

iPhone 6s and Galaxy S7 faced off in a drop test and it was brutal

Smartphone companies spend so much time and money making their phones thinner, faster and more powerful. But how much work actually goes into making them stronger? Building more durable phones clearly falls somewhere on vendors’ lists of priorities, but some seem to place it higher than others. Millions of people continue to drop and break their phones each year, and protective cases don’t always offer as much protection as users would have hoped.

With all that in mind, the two leading flagship smartphones in the world were recently put to the test in a fight to the death — literally — to see which one is better at withstanding drops. And while both phones seem sturdy enough, one came away the clear winner. More →

The chairman of Google is an unashamed iPhone user

It normally shouldn’t matter what smartphone a person chooses to use, but when the executive chairperson of one of the biggest tech conglomerates in the world says they use a product from the competition, well, it kind of does. In this case, we’re looking at former Google CEO Eric Schmidt, currently the executive chairman of Alphabet, the little company that’s the owner of Google. He apparently uses an iPhone 6s, Apple’s latest and greatest. He admitted his iPhone-using-ways during an interview, but still professed a little love for Samsung. More →

Giving away free TVs with each purchase is one way to keep Galaxy S7 sales up

Samsung shipped more than 81 million smartphones in the most recent quarter, according to market research firm Gartner. The company’s successful flagship smartphone launch was obviously a big driver for Samsung in the first quarter as it enjoyed its fastest profit growth in three years. Samsung’s Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge are clearly the sleekest and most powerful smartphones the company has ever launched, but they also got a helping hand from some serious advertising and marketing campaigns. On top of that, sales were no doubt bolstered by the fact that carriers were offering buy-one-get-one campaigns before the new flagship phones even launched.

If you missed out on a BOGO deal, don’t feel too bad because another nice incentive just popped up. More →

Android N Seamless Updates

No current Android phone will get Android N’s most exciting new feature

No current Android phone will get Android N’s most exciting new feature

One of the most exciting features coming in Android N is one that doesn’t have an iPhone equivalent, and it concerns systems updates. Google adapted one of the features from Chrome OS for Android in order to offer users quick and hassle-free updates. Unfortunately, this amazing feature won’t be available on any of the existing devices out there, ever after they’re updated to Android N. So the Galaxy S7, the HTC 10, LG G5, or any other hot flagship handset will not get this awesome new feature. In fact, not even Nexus 5X or Nexus 6P owners will be able to enjoy it. More →

In fact, even when all is said and done in 2016, these could end up being the best Android phones of the year.

Galaxy S7 vs. HTC 10: Can either Android flagship survive a professional drop test?

We’re not even halfway through 2016 at this point, but it’s quite possible that we’ve already see the two hottest ndew Android phones that will debut this year. We expect the upcoming Galaxy Note 6 to improve upon last year’s model in every way, the third OnePlus flagship phone is shaping up to be a beast, Motorola’s next Moto X could be the one we’ve been waiting for and the new Nexus phones should be great, but to be honest, we’re not expecting any of those phones to outshine Samsung Galaxy S7 or the HTC 10.

We already know that these two flagship phones are sleek, stylish and remarkably powerful (in fact, the HTC 10 is the most powerful phone in the world), but now it’s time to find out how durable they are. More →
