AT&T’s Galaxy S4 is getting its own KitKat package

AT&T on Wednesday officially confirmed that the highly anticipated Android 4.4.2 KitKat update for the Galaxy S4 is finally rolling out – Sprint was the first U.S. carrier to release its respective KitKat firmware for the Galaxy S4 two weeks ago. The update for the AT&T Galaxy S4 (I337 model) is available only over-the-air (OTA) and measures between 414MB and 842MB depending on the Android OS version currently found on the phone. More →

From Galaxy S to Galaxy S5: One graphic shows how gigantic Galaxy phones have gotten

The wait is finally over. Samsung’s Galaxy S5 has been unveiled. We posted our in-depth hands-on preview of the Galaxy S5 and interestingly, the phone was not what we expected following months of rumors that pointed to a quad HD display and other new features like an eye scanner. It’s still a solid effort from Samsung that improves upon the foundation laid by its predecessors though, and it avoids the continued build up of “feature spam” that had plagued Samsung’s Galaxy S4. Samsung finally updates Galaxy S4 to KitKat days before Galaxy S5 announcement

The Android 4.4.2 KitKat update for the Galaxy S4 has been unofficially available since early January, and Sprint only released its Galaxy S4 KitKat build a few days ago. Now, it looks like Samsung is ready to roll out the software to more Galaxy S4 owners. SamMobile reports that Android 4.4.2 is currently being released to the GT-I9500 international version of the Galaxy S4, a few days ahead of Samsung’s Galaxy S5 MWC 2014 event. More →

Sprint’s Galaxy S4 just got even better

Sprint’s Galaxy S4 is about to get a whole lot better as the carrier appears to be ready to finally update the phone to the latest Android version available, Android 4.4 KitKat. After the kernel source was leaked yesterday, Sprint has posted confirmation that the real thing is rolling out to its subscribers. As usual, the update will be rolled out in stages, and it may take a while until all Sprint Samsung Galaxy S4 owners get their official KitKat build – on that note, if an automatic prompt to update the device over-the-air (OTA) has not arrive, users can manually check for the update. Gadget spam or just trolling? Samsung reportedly not done popping out Galaxy S4 editions

Hundreds of years from now, Samsung will probably still be releasing new versions of the Galaxy S4. SamMobile has found some leaked information posted on the Sina Weibo social networking website in China that confirms Samsung isn’t yet done spamming out new GS4 models. The newest model will be called the Galaxy S4 Value Edition, which seems to imply that it will cost less than the Galaxy S4 proper or even the Galaxy S4 Lite that Samsung released last year. We’d like to tell you how many versions of the Galaxy S4 that Samsung has released so far, but we honestly have no idea how to calculate such a number anymore. We can think of at least a dozen different versions offhand but we wouldn’t be surprised if Samsung has popped out at least a dozen more when we weren’t looking.

Samsung GS4 Black Editions made official ahead of Galaxy S5 launch

Although they have already appeared online, Samsung made the Galaxy S4 and Galaxy S4 mini Black Editions official in a press release sent out on Friday. The launch of the flagship Galaxy S5 is just weeks away, but there’s still no indication from Samsung that the torrent of Galaxy S4 models will taper off any time soon. The Galaxy S4 Black Edition is virtually identical to previous releases: 1.9 GHz quad-core Snapdragon processor, 5-inch 1080p display, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, 13-megapixel rear camera and Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. With Galaxy S5 launch weeks away, Samsung debuts more new Galaxy S4s

Galaxy S4 users might be ditching their smartphones faster than ever before, but that won’t stop Samsung from continuing to crank out new versions of its 2013 flagship handset. With less than three weeks until Samsung takes the wraps off of its new Galaxy S5 smartphone, the company continues to roll out new versions of its old Galaxy S4 handset. In fact, the pace seems to have picked up recently. More →

Galaxy S4 owners are ditching their phones much faster than Galaxy S III owners did

Android fans around the world can’t wait to see what Samsung has in store for us with the upcoming Galaxy S5, but it looks like more current Samsung flagship phone owners than ever before have decided not to stick around and find out. According to new data provided to BGR on Monday by consumer electronics trade-in specialist Gazelle, Samsung handset owners traded in their Galaxy S4 smartphones 138% more frequently in the second half of 2013 than Galaxy S III owners did in the second half of 2012. What’s more, things aren’t slowing down — Gazelle says that January 2014 was the site’s third-biggest month ever for Galaxy S4 trade-ins. More →

Gadget spam or just trolling? Samsung unveils yet another Galaxy S4 version

Ok, the Galaxy S5 needs to launch immediately. Not because of anything having to do with the phone itself — though we really can’t wait to see what Samsung has in store for us with its 2014 flagship phone — but because we just can’t stomach seeing Samsung launch any more Galaxy S4 models. The tally has now climbed over a dozen and Samsung still isn’t done, as the world’s top smartphone maker on Friday unveiled the “Galaxy S4 Black Edition.”

Study shows yet another way Galaxy S4′s ‘useless’ features are bad for users

When you buy a 16GB Samsung Galaxy S4, keep in mind that you’re actually getting something closer to an 8.5GB device. British consumer product testing website Which? has conducted a study of several leading smartphones to determine just how much usable storage you actually get when you pay for a 16GB device. The website found that the device that gives you the lowest return is none other than Samsung’s Galaxy S4… and it’s not even close. More →

Apple fan explains what it’s like to use Android for six months

By on January 23, 2014 at 11:19 AM.

We see plenty of iPhone users switch to Android for a period of time and then write about their experiences. For example, we recently read an account from an Apple fanboy who couldn’t stand using the Nexus 5 even for a full 24 hours. We also see plenty of stories from Android enthusiasts who try to stomach the iPhone for a period of time. These stories are often written from the perspective of fanboys on both sides, however, so they rarely offer much substance. One iPhone user took to Reddit on Thursday to describe his experience using Android for six months though, and he provided an uncommonly succinct and level-headed account of his impressions after moving back to his iPhone 5. Add wireless charging to your Galaxy S4 right now for $55

Some might argue that placing your smartphone on a wireless charging pad isn’t much more convenient than placing it in a dock or plugging in a charger cable, but there novelty is certainly there. And while Samsung’s flagship Galaxy S4 doesn’t ship with native wireless charging support, a new OEM S View flip cover recently made available by Samsung adds wireless charging support to the device while also maintaining the look of the device. The new S View case replaces the phone’s battery cover and also includes a folding screen cover with a cutout that provides notification viewing without the need to open it. The new accessory costs $70 from Samsung but as Android Police notes, it’s already on sale for $55 from Amazon.
