Lollipop might be the best thing that’s ever happened to Samsung’s TouchWiz UI

Samsung is expected to update various current and former flagship handsets to Android 5.0 Lollipop and some recent videos from SamMobile have shown unofficial Android 5.0 builds in action on both the Galaxy S5 and the Galaxy S4. The publication has posted a new video on its YouTube channel that shows a comparison between KitKat and Lollipop running on the 2013 Galaxy S4, suggesting that Android 5.0 will bring a massive improvement to the older Samsung handset. Huge leak: Video shows Android 5.0 and new TouchWiz running on Samsung’s Galaxy S4

Samsung fans, we have good news and better news. The good news is that Samsung is hard at work preparing a big Android 5.0 Lollipop update for its smartphone lineup — and not just its latest phones, but last year’s popular handsets as well. The better news is that Samsung is much further along in the process than you might assume. In fact, it’s so far along that a very stable version of Samsung’s Android 5.0 build for the Galaxy S4 has leaked, and we can see the new software in action along with Samsung’s redesigned TouchWiz user interface in a new video that hit the web on Friday. Good news, Galaxy S4 owners: Your phone will get Android 5.0 Lollipop

Samsung will update the “old” Galaxy S4 to Android 5.0 Lollipop, SamMobile has learned, making Lollipop the third major Android update the handset will receive after Android 4.3 and Android 4.4. It’s not clear at this time when the Galaxy S4 will be upgraded to Lollipop, with the publication saying the Exynos version should get it first at some point in early 2015, assuming everything goes well. After all, Samsung hasn’t been quick to release such updates to previous flagship devices in the past. More →

Galaxy S4 bursts into flames under sleeping 13-year-old girl’s pillow

Let this cautionary tale serve as a reminder to everyone: don’t buy unauthorized parts or accessories for your smartphone. We have seen stories of combusting cell phones before, but perhaps none have been quite as unsettling as a new report from this past weekend. According to a Dallas, Texas-based Fox affiliate, a 13-year-old girl was awoken last week when she smelled something burning. As it turns out, the Samsung Galaxy S4 that she slipped under her pillow as she fell asleep had caught fire in the middle of the night and had begun to burn her pillow and sheets. More →

Verizon to finally roll out KitKat for the Galaxy S4 on May 2nd

It’s taken far too long, but it looks like an update to the latest version of Android on Verizon’s Galaxy S4 is finally in sight. Android Geeks obtained a leaked document from one of its readers which points to May 2nd as the launch date for Android 4.4.2 KitKat on the S4, around two months after the roll out began for AT&T and Sprint subscribers. Google has made it clear that the inexplicable update delays will be handled more efficiently in the future, but for now, Verizon customers are dependent on internal leaks to learn about software updates. From Galaxy S to Galaxy S5: One graphic shows how gigantic Galaxy phones have gotten

The wait is finally over. Samsung’s Galaxy S5 has been unveiled. We posted our in-depth hands-on preview of the Galaxy S5 and interestingly, the phone was not what we expected following months of rumors that pointed to a quad HD display and other new features like an eye scanner. It’s still a solid effort from Samsung that improves upon the foundation laid by its predecessors though, and it avoids the continued build up of “feature spam” that had plagued Samsung’s Galaxy S4. Samsung finally updates Galaxy S4 to KitKat days before Galaxy S5 announcement

The Android 4.4.2 KitKat update for the Galaxy S4 has been unofficially available since early January, and Sprint only released its Galaxy S4 KitKat build a few days ago. Now, it looks like Samsung is ready to roll out the software to more Galaxy S4 owners. Sprint’s Galaxy S4 just got even better

Sprint’s Galaxy S4 is about to get a whole lot better as the carrier appears to be ready to finally update the phone to the latest Android version available, Android 4.4 KitKat. After the kernel source was leaked yesterday, Sprint has posted confirmation that the real thing is rolling out to its subscribers. As usual, the update will be rolled out in stages, and it may take a while until all Sprint Samsung Galaxy S4 owners get their official KitKat build – on that note, if an automatic prompt to update the device over-the-air (OTA) has not arrive, users can manually check for the update. Gadget spam or just trolling? Samsung reportedly not done popping out Galaxy S4 editions

Hundreds of years from now, Samsung will probably still be releasing new versions of the Galaxy S4. SamMobile has found some leaked information posted on the Sina Weibo social networking website in China that confirms Samsung isn’t yet done spamming out new GS4 models. The newest model will be called the Galaxy S4 Value Edition, which seems to imply that it will cost less than the Galaxy S4 proper or even the Galaxy S4 Lite that Samsung released last year. We’d like to tell you how many versions of the Galaxy S4 that Samsung has released so far, but we honestly have no idea how to calculate such a number anymore. We can think of at least a dozen different versions offhand but we wouldn’t be surprised if Samsung has popped out at least a dozen more when we weren’t looking.

Samsung GS4 Black Editions made official ahead of Galaxy S5 launch

Although they have already appeared online, Samsung made the Galaxy S4 and Galaxy S4 mini Black Editions official in a press release sent out on Friday. The launch of the flagship Galaxy S5 is just weeks away, but there’s still no indication from Samsung that the torrent of Galaxy S4 models will taper off any time soon. The Galaxy S4 Black Edition is virtually identical to previous releases: 1.9 GHz quad-core Snapdragon processor, 5-inch 1080p display, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, 13-megapixel rear camera and Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean.
