Verizon Nokia Lumia 822 Leak

Nokia’s (NOK) Lumia 822 (code-named “Atlas”) isn’t quite as beefy as AT&T’s (T) Lumia 920, but it’ll have to do for a starter Windows Phone 8 device on Verizon (VZ). Following a leak earlier this week, actual photos of the Lumia 822 have surfaced on WMPoweruser revealing the device’s matte black finish and confirming 4G LTE and the 8-megapixel rear camera. The new leak also confirms the Lumia 822’s 4.3-inch WVGA display (800 x 480) and front-facing camera. We’re still unsure if the Lumia 822 will have wireless charging, but seeing as it’s based off the Lumia 820, it’s very possible it will support the new feature. Verizon is expected to launch Nokia’s Windows Phone 8 smartphone in November, just in time to go head-to-head with HTC (2498) Windows Phone 8X.

13-inch Retina MacBook Pro Production Issues

Apple (AAPL) might have to delay the launch of its rumored 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display due to low yield rates for the high-resolution displays, according to DigiTimes. The website reports that Apple had originally planned a September release for the 13-inch Retina MacBook Pro, but had to delay it to October because of difficulties in producing the Retina display (rumored to have a 2,560 x 1,600 resolution). Just last week, NPD DisplaySearch analyst Richard Shim reaffirmed his belief that Apple is still on track to release the 13-inch Retina MacBook Pro by the end of Q4 with a price below $2,199. It’s unclear if Apple’s display suppliers will be able to meet the company’s strict quality-control standards for the holiday season. More →

LG Google Nexus Photos

If the rumors pan out, LG (06657011) and Google (GOOG) will announce the next Nexus-branded smartphone on October 29th. Over the last few days, we’ve seen several leaks but none of them have provided photos as detailed as the ones taken by Tech.onliner.by. Judging by the new photos, LG’s Nexus won’t stray too far from the design of Samsung’s (005930) Galaxy Nexus. Aside from the re-positioned ear-piece and mosaic pattern on the back, the smartphone definitely appears to have a Nexus build-quality to it. Rumored specs for the LG Nexus phone include a 4.7-inch display (1,280 x 768 resolution), 1.5GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, 2GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage, an 8-megapixel rear camera and Android 4.1 .2Jelly Bean. October 29th can’t get here soon enough. The fresh batch of leaked photos follows below. More →

LG Google Nexus Smartphone Images Leak

LG (06657011) and Google (GOOG) are believed to be working on a new Nexus smartphone together. Following Tuesday’s leak, xda developers forum member “4shael” posted two clearer images of the purported LG Nexus smartphone. 4shael also reports that the device has a 1.5GHz quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage (no microSD card slot), an 8-megapixel rear camera, a 4.7-inch display with a resolution of 1,184 x 768 at 320 pixels per inch and Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. 4shael says the device is about as large as the Galaxy Nexus and doesn’t have LTE, but does have DC-HSDPA — though it is possible that the companies are working on several versions of the smartphone. The Verge also managed to get its hands on a Carphone Warehouse inventory listing that shows “LG Nexus4 Black” and “LG Nexus4 White” placeholders. LG’s Google Nexus smartphone is expected to be announced by the end of October. More →

Apple iPad Mini Wi-Fi-only Rumor

A last-minute production change could mean Apple’s (AAPL) rumored iPad mini will launch without a cellular data option. According to The Guardian’s sources, Apple will be able to “produce [the iPad mini] comparatively cheaply and to limit the top price of the product, while retaining mobile broadband connectivity for its pricier iPad line.” It’s also worth noting that Apple has never released any iteration of the 9.7-inch iPad without a 3G or 4G LTE model alongside it. The news comes as Apple is reportedly ordering 10 million iPad minis despite hiccups with producing the tablet’s anodized aluminum casing. The Guardian also goes on to say that it expects the iPad mini to launch in November. The smaller Apple slate is rumored to have a 7.85-inch display (1,024 x 768 resolution), slimmer side bezels and a razor-thin profile.  More →

HTC Samsung Components

HTC (2498) has reportedly followed in Apple’s (AAPL) footsteps and begun to reduce its dependency on Samsung (005930) components, according to Digitimes. The Taiwanese vendor is said to be switching orders for CMOS image sensors from Samsung to OmniVision and Sony (SNE), and is shifting part of its AMOLED panel orders to AU Optronics. HTC has also been using Super LCD panels in a number of its mid-range and high-end smartphones, which have been produced by Sony since the middle of 2010. Leak suggests Verizon will get Windows Phone 8-powered Nokia Lumia 822

October 9th at 6:22 PM

Nokia Atlas VerizonAT&T (T) has the Nokia (NOK) Lumia 820 and T-Mobile announced on Monday it will offer the Lumia 810. But what Windows Phone 8 devices will Verizon Wireless (VZ) carry? If leaks on evleaks‘ Twitter account can be trusted, Verizon will get its own variant of the new Lumia series called the Lumia 822, code-named “Atlas.” If it’s truly a variant of the Lumia 820, it should have a 4.3-inch display (800 x 480), front-facing HD camera, 8-megapixel rear camera and wireless charging support. The leaked phone image also suggests the Atlas will run on Verizon’s 4G LTE network. In terms of appearance, it looks like the only difference between the Atlas and the Lumia 820 is that the Atlas has more rounded edges.

iPad mini production rumored to have been halted over last-minute ‘form shift’

iPad Mini Production Delay

There have been several rumors that manufacturers are having trouble putting together enough iPad minis to meet demand right before the launch and now an unnamed source has told Japanese blog Macotakara that one of Apple’s (AAPL) OEMs has had to stop production of the tablet’s case due to a “form shift.” The blog says that the design “based on leaked iPad mini” that we’ve seen so far “may be dropped” in favor of a rounder one. If the iPad mini’s production really is in dire straits we’ll likely know soon since Apple is rumored to be sending out event invitations for the new tablet on Wednesday. If Apple sends out its invitations, then the rumored production problems are either false or not as significant as has been reported. More →
