Mac Mini Update

As if an iPad mini, 13-inch Retina MacBook Pro and new redesigned iMacs wouldn’t be enough, Apple (AAPL) may also announce updated Mac minis at its October 23rd event. 9to5Mac’s sources say there will be two standard configurations with different processors and storage as well as an OS X Server model. The new Mac mini will also get its USB 2.0 ports bumped up to 3.0 ones. The Apple rumors blog didn’t mention any redesign, nor did it reveal pricing. The updated Mac mini will reportedly be available immediately after its announced.

T-Mobile ISIS Mobile Wallet Launch

ISIS, the joint mobile payment venture backed by AT&T (T), Verizon (VZ) and T-Mobile, was previously set to debut in select markets at the end of September, but undisclosed delays continued to push the launch date back. According to a purported internal memo obtained by TmoNews, however, it looks as if the service will launch on a trial basis on October 22nd for select T-Mobile customers in Salt Lake City, Utah and Austin, Texas. In order to use the Mobile Wallet service, users will need a special ISIS SIM card that will be compatible with the Galaxy S III, Galaxy S II and Galaxy S Relay 4G. It should be noted that rooted devices will not support the service, just as rooted devices are unable to use Google Wallet. We’ve posted a second image after the break. More →

iPad Mini Battery Leak

Apple (AAPL) is expected to announce its 7.85-inch iPad mini on October 23rd. With all of the component and case leaks, and even retail store arrangements, the smaller tablet is now much more than just a rumor and now MacRumors has photos of what is believed to be the iPad mini battery. Although MacRumors was unable to confirm its authenticity, the photos suggest the iPad mini will have a 16.7Whr battery that runs at 3.72 volts. If the part isn’t a fake, the iPad mini’s battery will fit perfectly between the iPhone 5′s 5.45Whr and the new iPad’s massive 42.5Whr battery. It’s also just slightly under the iPad 2′s 25Whr battery.

Apple’s (AAPL) 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display is coming and some alleged photos of the laptop’s smaller display have leaked, courtesy of Chinese website WeiPhone. According to WeiPhone, the 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display will have a design that’s very similar to the 15-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display with the same thermal design Apple touted at WWDC. The leak shows one contact pad suggesting that once again, the 13-inch model won’t have its own discrete graphics chip and will likely be stuck with Intel’s (INTC) HD Integrated graphics.

Amazon may buy Texas Instruments' mobile chip business to keep up with Apple

Amazon Texas Instruments Acquisition

Texas Instruments (TXN) announced last month plans to shrink its mobile processor business and instead focus on broader markets. According to a report from Israeli newspaper Calcalist, however, the company may be looking to sell its chip business entirely. Amazon (AMZN) is said to be in “advanced negotiations” to acquire Texas Instruments’ mobile business, a move that will increase the retail giant’s competition with Samsung (005930) and Apple (AAPL). Gartner analyst Carolina Milanesi doubted the reported, though, telling Reuters that Amazon may not want to “become that intimately involved with hardware.” More →

Along with the smaller tablet, the Cupertino-based company is expected to announced a 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display as well as updated iMacs. Chinese website WeiPhone has posted an image of what it claims is from Apple’s new iMacs. The new desktops are said to be “considerably thinner than the current form factor, with the machine’s thickness almost impossible to gauge when viewed from the side.” The iMac’s squared-off rear design will also be reportedly be replaced with a curvier one that resembles a water droplet. Additionally, the iMac’s screen is reportedly glued to the front glass for improved clarity. The 21.5-inch iMac is expected to get the new design first, with the 27-inch iMac following some time later.

Google Maps iOS 6

Help for your mapping needs is on the way, iPhone users. San Francisco-based software developer Ben Guild has posted some details about Google (GOOG) Maps for iOS 6 on his blog, along with some low-quality images that he says are the application’s alpha build. Among other things, Guild says the app will be ” vector-based,” will feature “two-finger rotation for any angle” and will be formatted for the iPhone 5′s four-inch display. Needless to say, this is music to the ears of iPhone 5 users who love their new device but who miss having the guidance of Google’s high-quality Maps application. More →

Here comes the iPad mini: Apple to unveil new smaller iPad on October 23rd

By on October 12, 2012 at 7:30 AM.

iPad Mini Release Date

Apple (AAPL) will unveil its new iPad mini tablet on October 23rd according to a new report. After October 10th came and went with no media invitations, the usual suspects began pinging their Apple sources in search of answers. Now, we finally have our first hit. AllThingsD, which has accurately pegged numerous event dates for Apple device unveilings in the past, cites unnamed sources in claiming that Apple will take the wraps off its new iPad mini during a press conference on October 23rd — three days before Microsoft’s (MSFT) Surface tablet goes on sale. This would push the likely release date of the new iPad mini into early November as opposed to late October, as had previously been rumored. The iPad mini is expected to feature a 7.85-inch display, an ultra-thin unibody aluminum case and rumors suggest it may be offered with an anodized finish similar to the iPhone 5. More →

Verizon's Nokia 822 leaks again, revealing matte chassis and specs

Verizon Nokia Lumia 822 Leak

Nokia’s (NOK) Lumia 822 (code-named “Atlas”) isn’t quite as beefy as AT&T’s (T) Lumia 920, but it’ll have to do for a starter Windows Phone 8 device on Verizon (VZ). Following a leak earlier this week, actual photos of the Lumia 822 have surfaced on WMPoweruser revealing the device’s matte black finish and confirming 4G LTE and the 8-megapixel rear camera. The new leak also confirms the Lumia 822′s 4.3-inch WVGA display (800 x 480) and front-facing camera. We’re still unsure if the Lumia 822 will have wireless charging, but seeing as it’s based off the Lumia 820, it’s very possible it will support the new feature. Verizon is expected to launch Nokia’s Windows Phone 8 smartphone in November, just in time to go head-to-head with HTC (2498) Windows Phone 8X.

13-inch Retina MacBook Pro Production Issues

Apple (AAPL) might have to delay the launch of its rumored 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display due to low yield rates for the high-resolution displays, according to DigiTimes. The website reports that Apple had originally planned a September release for the 13-inch Retina MacBook Pro, but had to delay it to October because of difficulties in producing the Retina display (rumored to have a 2,560 x 1,600 resolution). Just last week, NPD DisplaySearch analyst Richard Shim reaffirmed his belief that Apple is still on track to release the 13-inch Retina MacBook Pro by the end of Q4 with a price below $2,199. It’s unclear if Apple’s display suppliers will be able to meet the company’s strict quality-control standards for the holiday season. More →
