World’s best Windows Phones now free if you trade in your iPhone

Windows Phone is a platform on the rise and now curious iPhone owners can get their chance to own one of the world’s best Windows Phones for free. Microsoft has announced that it will give anyone who trades in their iPhone 4s either a Nokia Lumia 1020 or a Lumia 1520 for free with a two-year service contract with AT&T. This seems like a terrific deal for AT&T subscribers who are curious about trying a different smartphone since the Lumia 1020 and Lumia 1520 are terrific devices that have some of the world’s best smartphone cameras. And when you consider that Nokia first launched the Lumia 1020 last year with a $300 on-contract price tag then you can see that you’re getting major value here. The major downside is that Windows Phone still faces a significant app gap with iOS but Microsoft is working overtime to get that fixed.

AT&T Nokia Lumia 1520 reportedly hard to find at launch [updated]

It looks like Apple isn’t the only vendor suffering from a supply shortage this holiday season. According to WPCentral, the inventory of the AT&T Nokia Lumia 1520 is much smaller than expected, and many customers who had previously been assured that their orders would arrive on Friday are now receiving emails that say the Lumia 1520 is now experiencing shipping delays. WPCentral called several AT&T and Microsoft Stores to gauge whether this problem was more widespread than its readers who first reported the delays, and found many locations had only acquired a few 1520s for launch. Nokia Lumia 1520 review: Nokia’s first phablet is full of surprises

Nokia, as we know it, is going away. The company itself will remain, of course. It might even be consistently profitable some day. But the face of Nokia that most consumers are familiar with will be a thing of the past. Nokia will soon sell off its devices and services business to Microsoft for about $5 billion as part of a $7.2 billion deal. But in the meantime, the company has a product pipeline to clear and the new Lumia 1520 is certainly one of the more interesting devices Nokia will be launching before the big changing of the guard. The 1520 marks Nokia’s first foray into the increasingly popular phablet category and if not for Apple, Nokia would be the last major smartphone vendor to enter the space. But is the company’s new 1520 just a bigger Lumia phone, or is it also a better Lumia phone that continues moving in the right direction and picks up where the Lumia 1020 left off? More →

Now, according to a report from WPCentral, inventory listings have confirmed that both Nokia’s Lumia 1520 phablet and the Lumia 2520 tablet will be available at AT&T and Verizon on November 22nd. The listings also show that the Lumia 2520 will be available in red and black on Verizon (although only the black variation appears for AT&T) and the Lumia 1520 will be available in red, black, yellow and white on AT&T. The Lumia 1520 is expected to retail for $549 off contract, $199 on contract. More →

End of an era: Nokia unveils six final consumer devices

Nokia is aiming to make a bigger splash in the mobile market by releasing its first-ever phablet and tablet this year, two among the six final consumer devices that Nokia will ever debut. On Tuesday Nokia announced its new Lumia 1520 and Lumia 1320 phablets as well as its Lumia 2520 tablet. As previous leaks suggested, the Lumia 1520 features a 6-inch 1080p display, a 20-megapixel PureView camera, a 2.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB of RAM, 32GB of storage and Windows Phone 8. The Lumia 1320, meanwhile, is the same size as the Lumia 1520 but its display is only 720p and it has just a 5-megapixel camera without PureView technology. The Lumia 1520 will carry an off-contract price of $749 while the Lumia 1320 will have an off-contract price of $339. The Lumia 1520 will be released in the United States in the fourth quarter of 2013 while the Lumia 1320 will be targeted more toward emerging markets. More →

Nokia accidentally reveals Lumia 1520 details on Chinese online store

It’s a good thing that we already know pretty much everything there is to know about Nokia’s Lumia 1520 because it’s very unlikely that we’ll be awake at 3 a.m. on Tuesday to tune into Nokia’s big announcement. And just in case we needed any further confirmation about information we’ve previously learned about the Lumia 1520, Nokia has done us the favor of accidentally leaking out information about the device onto its own Chinese retail website. As Engadget notes, Nokia’s Chinese Tmall page this week has posted information about the Lumia 1520 that confirms what we’ve heard about its specifications, including a 6-inch, 1080p display and a 20 megapixel PureView camera. The device is also priced at 4,999 Yuan (USD $819), although Engadget cautions that this might just be a placeholder. More →

Red Nokia Lumia 1520 phablet shown again in leaked picture

Now that we have an official date for Nokia’s press conference, it shouldn’t be long before the Nokia Lumia 1520 is finally publicly revealed. Several photos and press images of Nokia’s phablet have leaked over the last few months, along with rumored specifications that include a 6-inch, full HD display, quad-core processor, 20-megapixel camera and an updated Windows Phone 8 OS. Although there might not be much information left to divulge, @evleaks posted yet another press photo of the Lumia 1520, this time in red, stating that it would be available in 2013. We will have to wait until October 22nd to find out for sure, but considering the very first Lumia 1520 leak appeared to show the smartphone in red, there’s not much reason to doubt this leak’s validity. Nokia’s Lumia 1520 phablet launch reportedly pushed back to October

What may very well be the last Lumia smartphone reportedly won’t see the light of day for another month. According to a report on Monday evening from Reuters, Nokia has delayed the unveiling and launch of its Lumia 1520 phablet until sometime in October. The news organization says it could not confirm the new date of Nokia’s planned announcement, but it has been pushed back by several weeks from the original date in late September. Earlier reports suggested that Nokia had planned to unveil the new phone at a press conference during the last week of September. According to previous rumors, the Lumia 1520 will feature a 6-inch full HD display, a quad-core processor, a 20-megapixel PureView camera and an updated version of the Windows Phone 8 operating system.

Will Nokia’s handset business go out with a whimper or a bang? According to several earlier rumors, we’ll find out later this month when Nokia unveils what may be its last ever smartphone. It’s also somewhat poetic that Nokia’s potential last smartphone, the Lumia 1520, is also its first phablet — being slow to react to industry trends is what got Nokia in this mess to begin with. But Nokia’s loss may be Microsoft’s gain, and we’ll find out soon enough. In the meantime, we have seen leaked photos of the Lumia 1520 before but this time around we can clearly see Verizon branding on the device as well as a 20-megapixel PureView camera with Carl Zeiss optics in the new picture posted to Sina Weibo recently. Other rumored specs include a 6-inch full HD display and a quad-core processor. Nokia is expected to unveil the Lumia 1520 during a press conference next week. The leaked photo follows below. More →

Nokia’s massive Lumia 1520 phablet shown again in leaked pictures

Big displays are all the rage these days and Nokia is hoping to cash in with a phablet of its own. The Verge has obtained some leaked pictures of the upcoming Lumia 1520 phone that’s rumored to feature a 6-inch, 1080p display, a quad-core Qualcomm processor and a 20-megapixel PureView camera. The pictures show an absolutely massive device whose dimensions positively dwarf the Sony Xperia handset that it’s pictured with. Although we got a look at the Lumia 1520 last week in a leaked press photo, seeing the device compared side-by-side with another smartphone really gives us an impression of just how big it will be. The leaked Lumia 1520 pictures follow below. More →
