Microsoft refutes ridiculous rumor that it wants to kill the Surface

There are times when Digitimes offers up interesting and accurate information, particularly when it comes to supply chain news. There are other times, however, when it seems as though its writers have spent all week taking part in a $300,000 crack party. That said, between reporting that Apple plans to merge iOS and OS X earlier this week and reporting that Microsoft plans to kill its Surface line of tablets, Digitimes this week has reached a level of insanity that could only be matched by Gene Munster on a bad acid trip. Apple may have dumped its Mac vs PC ads a long time ago, but that doesn’t mean such ad comparisons are over. It’s now Microsoft’s time to troll Apple with comparison ads, this time using the Surface Pro 3 to take on one of Apple’s most iconic laptops out there in the MacBook Air. More →

You won’t be able to stop watching this embarrassing Microsoft promo video

If there’s a better way to promote Microsoft’s OneNote solution and its new Surface Pro 3 tablet, we have no idea what it is. Several members of the Microsoft OneNote team recently came together to film a parody of LMFAO’s hit song of yesteryear, “I’m Sexy And I Know It.” Since they’re promoting the Surface Pro 3 and Microsoft’s great cloud-syncing notes solution OneNote, their cover is appropriately named “I Click It And I Note It,” and it focuses on OneNote’s simplicity as well as the speed with which people can take notes using the Surface Pro 3 tablet. Microsoft says Surface Pro 3 is its fastest selling tablet yet

Microsoft reported its fiscal fourth-quarter earnings on Tuesday afternoon. While the company missed Wall Street’s consensus mainly due to poor performance out of its newly acquired Nokia smartphone division, all in all it was a fairly solid quarter with operating income coming in at $6.48 billion on revenue that beat analysts’ estimates at $23.38 billion. While we still don’t know how well the company’s Surface tablets are selling — in fact, the odds are very good that we’ll never know — Microsoft CFO Amy Hood did share a bit of good news during the company’s earnings conference call on Tuesday evening. Is the Surface Pro 3 the much-needed hit Microsoft has been waiting for?

Microsoft’s first venture into the tablet market didn’t exactly go well but the company has been doggedly refining and improving its products to the point where it may be starting to see some sales success. ZDNet’s Ed Bott does a nice job of digging through Gartner’s latest report on PC sales and has found that there’s one category of PCs that has been surging this year: Premium ultra-mobile PCs such as the MacBook Air and the Surface Pro 3. Microsoft accidentally confirmed the Surface Mini

Many reports detailed the imminent launch of the Surface Mini in the weeks preceding the Surface Pro 3 debut, until just before the event, when news broke that the Surface Mini wouldn’t be making an appearance at the company’s tablet event. The product still appears to be in the cards for a future launch though, and Microsoft has mistakenly confirmed its existence in the most surprising way. More →

The single biggest thing Microsoft needs to fix with the next Surface Pro

Microsoft has been pitching its Surface Pro 3 as “the first tablet that can replace your laptop” and early reviews of the device have generally been very positive about how well the device works both as a laptop and a tablet. However, Business Insider’s review of the Surface Pro 3 makes clear that Microsoft still has some work to do with the device’s kickstand setup to truly make it as comfortable to hold in your lap as a MacBook Air or an Windows ultrabook. Microsoft wants to prove the Surface Pro 3 can replace your laptop

Microsoft is done fighting over the crowded tablet market —  the Surface Pro 3 is a laptop replacement. At least that’s how the company wants us to think of its latest device. Equipped with the new Surface Pen, a fully adjustable kickstand, a lineup of keyboards, a USB port and the ability to run Microsoft Office, the Surface Pro 3 could be the first Microsoft tablet to make a splash… no matter how light it is. A diehard Mac fan explains why you should give the Surface Pro 3 a chance

Microsoft has been positioning the Surface Pro 3 as a top rival for Apple’s MacBook lineup of laptops and now one Mac diehard is putting that claim to the test.
