Live from Barnes & Noble’s Nook tablet event!

Live from Barnes & Noble’s Nook tablet event!

By on November 7, 2011 at 9:52 AM.

We’re live from Barnes & Noble’s press conference here in New York City where the bookseller is expected to take the wraps off its sequel to the Nook Color tablet. Though the firm used a heavily customized, unrecognizable version of Google’s Android platform to power the original Nook Color, it is still one of the most popular Android tablets in the short history of the media tablet category. Barnes & Noble has reportedly shipped more than 3 million Nook Color slates to date, and with Amazon’s $199 Kindle Fire ready to heat things up beginning next week, we’re hoping B&N has a few surprises up its sleeve this morning to keep the space competitive. Live from Sprint’s ‘Strategy Update’ event!

Live from Sprint’s ‘Strategy Update’ event!

By on October 7, 2011 at 9:14 AM.

Sprint announced back in August that it would be hosting a “Strategy Update” meeting today, and the uncommon phrasing set our imaginations aflutter. Will it be about the iPhone? Well, we already know Sprint will carry both the iPhone and iPhone 4S beginning the 14th, but Sprint has been eerily quiet about finally procuring the world’s most popular smartphone so we wouldn’t be surprised to hear more about it today. There’s also a supposed $20 billion deal with Apple that the company inked recently, so perhaps we’ll hear about that. Will Sprint elaborate on its 4G plans? The carrier said in July that it worked out a deal with LightSquared to adopt 4G LTE, but LightSquared is having issues lately and again, Sprint has been awfully quiet lately. We’re just minutes away from getting the skinny straight from the horse’s mouth, so hit the break for our live coverage of Sprint’s press conference, which is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. Eastern, and don’t forget to refresh the page for all the latest updates. Live from Amazon’s Kindle tablet event!

By on September 28, 2011 at 9:15 AM.

We’re live and in color from Amazon’s Kindle tablet (Kindle Fire, it would seem) event here in New York City, and we’ll be bringing you all the action live as it happens. While the tablet itself has been leaking for months — BGR exclusively reported this past May that Amazon’s first tablet would be based on the NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor, and a larger device sporting a quad-core CPU will launch early next year — by there should still be a few surprises in store. At least we hope so. Stay tuned for the live coverage to start just before 10:00 a.m. Eastern, and don’t forget to refresh this page for the latest news as it breaks.

UPDATE: Make sure to check out our hands-on with the Amazon Kindle Fire!, Amazon Kindle touch, and new Amazon Kindle! More →

We’re live from HTC’s ‘celebrate in style’ event!

We’re live from HTC’s ‘celebrate in style’ event!

By on September 20, 2011 at 9:48 AM.

HTC is hosting an event this morning in New York City and while the topic of conversation is still a bit of a mystery, we can safely assume whatever the Taiwan-based smartphone vendor unveils today will be stylish. Invitations sent to press earlier this month invited us to “come celebrate in style,” and while Fashion Week officially ended last Thursday, it looks like HTC is having trouble letting go. Live coverage of the event begins in just a few hours around 9:00 a.m., and all of the live action can be followed after the break! More →

Live from Nintendo’s E3 keynote!

By on June 7, 2011 at 11:41 AM.

That’s right folks, it’s finally time to sit back and watch as Nintendo unveils the console we’ve all been waiting to see: the next-generation Wii. Nintendo’s Wii has been an absolute blockbuster for the storied Japanese gaming giant. The company has sold nearly 90 million Wii consoles to date, but sales have slowed significantly over the past few years as the Wii began to show its age. With features like full HD gaming and controllers with built-in touchscreen displays, Nintendo’s next-gen Wii 2 will be an effort to recapture the early success of the Wii… but can Nintendo manage to appeal to casual gamers and hardcore gamers with a single console? Hit the break for our live coverage of Nintendo’s E3 keynote to find out!

Live from Apple’s WWDC 2011 keynote with Steve Jobs!

Live from Apple’s WWDC 2011 keynote with Steve Jobs!

By on June 6, 2011 at 12:20 PM.

Welcome one and all to BGR’s live coverage of Apple’s WWDC 2011 keynote! Apple CEO Steve Jobs is on hand to unveil the latest Apple has to offer, and we’re expecting a huge event despite the fact that Apple is not expected to reveal a new iPhone model at the show this year. Instead, Apple will focus on software, with the big addition being the company’s new iCloud service. Apple will also show off more OS X Lion details during the keynote, but we have to admit: we’re much more anxious to see Apple show off iOS 5 for the first time. We think iOS 5 is going to be the most significant update to the platform since Apple introduced the App Store alongside iOS 2.0. A completely rebuilt notification system, basic widget functionality, a new automatic app update delivery mechanism and deep social integration are among the changes we’ll be looking for, but we’re certain that Apple has a few surprises up its sleeve as well. Live from the Google Wallet press conference!

By on May 26, 2011 at 11:18 AM.

Google has been working on a mobile payment service for quite some time now, and the company is finally ready to take the wraps off of the first iteration of its contactless payment product. Google has been buying up talent — and someone spilled the beans this past Tuesday — so we can’t say the announcement is likely to come as much of a surprise. Yes, Google is expected to finally take the wraps off its Google Wallet service, which will use NFC-based technology to allow consumers to pay for goods with their cell phones. According to reports, Google’s preliminary pilot will launch in partnership with Sprint, utilizing the NFC-equipped Google Nexus S 4G, and it will be available in New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago and Washington, D.C. to start. Want to know more? So do we… and we’ll be reporting all the action as it unfolds right here in this post. Live from Barnes & Noble’s NOOK event!

Live from Barnes & Noble’s NOOK event!

By on May 24, 2011 at 9:31 AM.

While Microsoft is busy showing off the latest and greatest its Windows Phone platform has to offer, Barnes & Noble is across town getting ready to take the wraps off its brand new NOOK eReader. Tablets like the Apple iPad 2 and BlackBerry PlayBook are taking center stage right now, but these jacks of all trades have a long way to go before they can even come close to matching the reading experience afforded by dedicated eReaders. Avid readers and casual readers alike can appreciate the remarkable battery life and unique features that only a dedicated eBook reader can afford, and good luck trying to soak up the sun while reading a book on your iPad — right now, only an E Ink display can remain perfectly visible and glare-free while combating the sun’s rays. So what new features does Barnes and Noble have in store for its latest NOOK eReader? Hit the break for our live coverage of the unveiling, which will begin just before 10:00 a.m. EST, and don’t forget to refresh the page often for all the latest updates! More →
