The iPhone 7 nightmare

The iPhone 7 nightmare

By about 11 hours ago.

I haven’t been as active lately on Twitter as I once was, but I do use the service constantly to monitor the news. Twitter lists are fantastic for news-watching. In fact, the lists feature is probably the only reason I still use Twitter at all.

On Tuesday night, a tweet crossed by timeline that caught my eye. “Here’s the nightmare scenario if Apple removes the headphone jack on the next iPhone, as rumored,” the tweet warned. Ruh roh! This tweet had “click me” written all over it, and I might have skipped past it entirely had it not been for the source — Fast Company is a high-quality site that I personally enjoy. So I clicked.

The good news is that the article that tweet led me to wasn’t senseless click bait, as I had briefly feared might be the case. The bad news is that it describes a “nightmare scenario” that almost certainly isn’t based in reality. More →

How Apple could fix the iPhone 7 headphone jack issue it’s creating

How Apple could fix the iPhone 7 headphone jack issue it’s creating

The iPhone 7 will lack a 3.5mm audio jack that would be compatible with existing wired headphones, most rumors claim. Consequently, many people are already angry at Apple for looking to kill the port, even if most of them already know this is precisely the kind of move Apple is known for. But if Apple is killing the headphone jack, what will replace it? More →

Would you rather a black or blue iPhone 7? This is what they’re going to look like

Various reports seem to agree that Apple will introduce a new iPhone color starting with the 2016 iPhone series due this year. But they don’t agree on what the new color will be. Referred to as the iPhone 7 though it may have a different commercial name when it launches in September, the new family of devices is supposedly coming either in blue or black, color options that have not been available on any previous iPhone models – not including the plastic iPhone 5c that did come in a blue version, of course. Here’s why the iPhone 7 ‘Deep Blue’ color option isn’t happening

Here’s why the iPhone 7 ‘Deep Blue’ color option isn’t happening

Apple’s upcoming iPhone 7 will be available in a much darker version of space gray, according to a recent report from AppleInsider. Citing a source from Macotakara, the publication relays that the space grey model Apple has in the works for the iPhone 7 is so dark as to almost be black.

If the report is to be believed, the move would represent an about-face for Apple, as the company has increasingly leaned towards lighter colors with recent iPhone models. In fact, the last time Apple offered an iPhone model in a color that was arguably close to black was all the way back with the iPhone 5. As it stands today, Apple’s iPhone models are available in the following colors — Silver, Gold, Rose Gold and Space Grey. The current incarnation of Space Grey, however, is more of a light to medium grey than anything else.

Forget 2016 Nexus phones, Google is said to be making an iPhone 7 killer

Forget 2016 Nexus phones, Google is said to be making an iPhone 7 killer

There’s no doubt about the fact that Google will have to launch at least one new Nexus smartphone this year. It’s the only way for the company to show what Android N can do – to customers, developers, and OEMs. In fact, at this point, there’s no way for Google to launch a major Android release and not make a Nexus phone. But unlike in previous years, 2016 might mark the year when Google launches both Nexus devices and a Google-branded phone that wants to be an iPhone killer of sorts. The device would go head-to-head against Apple’s iPhone 7.

Leaked iPhone 7 photos point to intriguing new camera design

Over the weekend, a pair of photos purporting to show the rear casings of both the iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus appeared online. Originally spotted by Nowhereelse.fr, the images are largely similar to previous leaks we’ve seen over the past few weeks, with the unsightly antenna lines that plagued both the iPhone 6 and 6s thankfully moved towards the side.

What’s particularly interesting about the latest iPhone 7 leak, however, is that the photos appear to suggest that the 4.7-inch iPhone 7 model will receive an impressive camera upgrade. While we’ve seen no shortage of rumors pointing to all of the snazzy and advanced camera technology Apple is planning to grace the iPhone 7 Plus with, the most recent iPhone 7 leak reminds us that Apple’s 4.7-inch iPhone 7 may also have a substantive camera upgrade itself.

Galaxy Note 7: How does 6GB of RAM and up to 512GB of storage sound?

The successor of the Galaxy Note 5 will be called Galaxy Note 7, recent leaks have shown, as Samsung is going for a uniform naming scheme – the same number in its Galaxy S and Note flagships is supposed to enforce the idea that both devices represent last-generation smartphones and the best handsets in Samsung’s lineup. But regardless of what Samsung ends up calling its phablet family this year, the phone should be an absolute monster in terms of hardware. A couple of recent leaks indicate the phone will be faster and better than anything the competition has to offer. And it could probably beat many laptops and desktops when it comes to overall performance. More →

iPhone 7 will be Apple’s riskiest iPhone release yet

Apple’s iPhone 7 unveiling this year will likely adhere to a familiar pattern. No doubt, we’ll hear tales and see charts detailing how Apple’s new A10 processor blows the competition out of the water. You want thin? We’ll see a video narrated by Jony Ive explaining how Apple managed to shave a whopping .2 millimeters off of the iPhone 7’s design. But what about the camera? Not too worry, Phil Schiller will likely get up on stage and explain the myriad of ways in which the iPhone 7’s camera easily outclasses every other device on the market.

All that said, the impending release of the iPhone 7 will be decidedly different than in years past. Specifically, the upcoming iPhone 7 may very well be the riskiest device Apple has ever released.

iPhone 7 Price Leak

How much will a 256GB iPhone 7 cost?

How much will a 256GB iPhone 7 cost?

iPhone 7 rumors and speculation are running rampant. The 2016 iPhone will be so “boring” this year that it won’t even be called iPhone 7, some say, because the name will be reserved for next year’s tenth anniversary iPhone. Design, specs and features are often detailed in reports, and we have a general idea of what to expect from this year’s iPhones. Apple made sure of that with a series of stories that were almost certainly planted by the company’s PR team. But how much will the new iPhone cost? Will it be cheaper than last year’s model, or will Apple stick to its typical iPhone prices? More →

New leak highlights how boring the iPhone 7 really is

The iPhone 7 will be a close copy of the iPhone 6s, multiple trustworthy reports claimed, as Apple transitions to a three-year iPhone redesign approach — at least temporarily. The iPhone 7 might not even be called iPhone 7 according to one report, as that honor might apparently be reserved for the 2017 iPhone series, which would mark Apple’s 10-year iPhone anniversary.

Some of the main changes coming to the 2016 iPhone concern the headphone jack, antenna lines and rear cameras, and now a new report says there will be other tiny modifications. More →

2016 MacBook Pro Headphone Jack

Will the 2016 MacBook Pro also kill the headphone jack?

By on June 22, 2016 at 3:40 PM.

Will the 2016 MacBook Pro also kill the headphone jack?

Much has been written about the imminent death of the 3.5mm headphone jack in the past months, and especially this week, now that it’s almost a given that the iPhone – cough – 7 will not have one. Apple is at the receiving end of plenty of criticism, much of it being rather obtuse and unwarranted. In the grand scheme of things, the standard 3.5mm jack has to die, and there will never be a right time to do it if you ask customers who happen to own plenty of wired headphones. Not to mention that other companies have already pulled similar tricks, with Motorola being the most notorious phone maker to do it – yet nobody scolded Moto for ditching it.

But killing the 3.5mm headphone jack isn’t a simple one-time murder. It has to be a serial-killing operation that would see Apple gradually removing the port from all its products, including iPads and MacBooks. In fact, there’s already speculation that this year’s MacBook Pros won’t have a 3.5mm headset jack either.
