This in-depth iPhone 7 camera review exposes all its hidden secrets

By about 4 hours ago.

The iPhone 7 sports one of the best smartphone cameras that has ever existed. Reviews from professional photographers and many photo and video samples already make that point. But DxOMark’s iPhone 7 camera review is certainly worth a read, as it explains all the intricacies of Apple’s camera innovations.

The camera pros at DxOMark put the 4.7-inch device through various paces, concluding that the iPhone 7 is the best camera Apple made to date. The phone outscores all of its predecessors, but it still isn’t the top-rated camera on DxOMark.

Not even Apple was expecting its ‘boring’ new iPhone 7 to be this popular

Gadget blogs have been saying for months how “boring” Apple’s new iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus are, but apparently someone forgot to tell consumers around the world because sales so far are apparently through the roof. We won’t know any exact numbers until Apple reports its September-quarter earnings next month, and continuing supply shortages will undoubtedly impact fiscal fourth-quarter sales figures. But a new report suggests that not even Apple was expecting its new iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus to be as popular as they have been so far. More →

Galaxy Note 7 explosions in China send customers running to the iPhone 7

China is the one major market that was not affected by the massive Galaxy Note 7 recall. Samsung said the phones in the region are safe because they contain batteries made by a local supplier, not Samsung SDI. The Samsung subsidiary made the exploding batteries that equipped Galaxy Note 7 units sold outside of China, which is why Galaxy Note 7 sales were not interrupted in the country.

But recent Galaxy Note 7 explosions in China may end up hurting Samsung anyway. More →

How not to lose that annoying little headphone adapter that came with your iPhone 7

How not to lose that annoying little headphone adapter that came with your iPhone 7

If you have an iPhone 7 or an iPhone 7 Plus, you’ve probably noticed by now that something is missing from this year’s iPhones that had been present on every single iPhone up until this point. That’s right, the standard 3.5mm headphone jack you used to plug your headphones and aux cables into is no more. Shocking, we know.

Okay, so Apple’s move to ditch the standard audio port didn’t come as much of a surprise following months of rumors suggesting that would be the case. Even still, there are some people out there who are very annoyed at Apple’s decision, regardless of how “courageous” it may (or may not) have been. But if you own or plan to purchase an iPhone 7 — or any iPhone in the future — it’s time to get over it. You can either use the Lightning headphones in the box, buy a new pair of Lightning headphones, buy wireless headphones, or use the headphone adapter that came in the box with your iPhone. If you decide to go with that last option, we’ll show you how to make sure that you don’t lose it. More →

This is why you can’t buy a Jet Black iPhone 7 right now

The Jet Black iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus are the most popular new iPhones this year — but that doesn’t mean you’ll get yours anytime soon. Apparently, the Jet Black color isn’t the easiest to manufacture, and Apple has run into various production problems that still haven’t completely been ironed out. More →

iPhone 7 Plus vs. DSLR: Is Apple’s new portrait mode as impressive as it seems?

By on September 27, 2016 at 11:25 AM.

When Apple unveiled its new iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus earlier this month at its bug press conference in San Francisco, it was immediately clear that the larger iPhone 7 Plus model is the star of the show this year. Both new phones are impressive, of that there is little doubt. But the bigger iPhone packs a class-leading new dual camera setup that is arguably the best smartphone camera the world has ever seen.

Among the new features shown off by Apple was a “portrait mode” setting that creates a “bokeh” effect on photos similar to what you might see in photos captured by a DSLR. In fact, Apple has mentioned DSLR cameras a few times when discussing the new iPhone 7 Plus camera. Is it fair to mention Apple’s new dual lens camera system in the same breath as a DSLR, or is Apple just overhyping its latest iPhone? It’s time to find out. More →

iPhone 7 vs. Android Hacks

This is the Israeli company that can hack any iPhone and Android smartphone

This is the Israeli company that can hack any iPhone and Android smartphone

If Cellebrite sounds familiar, that’s because the name of this Israeli company came up during Apple’s standoff with the FBI over breaking iPhone encryption. The agency managed to crack the San Bernardino iPhone with the help of an undisclosed company. Many people believe it was Cellebrite that came to the rescue. Meanwhile, the company revealed that it could hack just about any modern smartphone, but refused to say whether its expertise is used by the police forces of repressive regimes.

iPhone 7 sales may be lower than the iPhone 6s, analyst claims

iPhone 7 sales may be lower than the iPhone 6s, analyst claims

Right out of the gate, the iPhone 7 appeared to be just what Apple needed to make analysts forget about disappointing iPhone sales. The iPhone 6s, if you recall, marked the first time that year-over-year iPhone sales experienced a decline. In turn, many analysts and tech pundits were quick to declare that we had finally reached Peak iPhone and that Apple’s best days were behind it.

The iPhone 7, however, appeared ready to change that. Early on, iPhone 7 pre-orders were off the charts. T-Mobile, for example, remarked that iPhone 7 pre-orders were 4 times higher than what the company saw with the iPhone 6. Sprint, meanwhile, said that iPhone 7 pre-orders were 375% higher compared to the previous year.

Bill Maher slams Apple for releasing new iPhone models every year

During the most recent episode of HBO’s Real Time with Bill Maher, the outspoken talk show host criticized Apple for the most unusual of reasons. All but calling Apple’s annual iPhone upgrades incremental, Maher said that if Apple truly wanted to do something innovative, they’d refrain from releasing a new iPhone every year.

iPhone manufacturing CEO: ‘consumers do not care what analysts say’

Consumer technology is big business, so there’s money to be made forecasting and estimating Apple’s sales. But in an interview, the CEO of one of Apple’s biggest manufacturing partners has defended the iPhone 7, and predicted it will be a sales hit.

Pegatron chairperson Tung Tzu-hsien spoke to Nikkei Asian Review about the launch of the iPhone 7, saying he remains “cautiously optimistic” while declining to discuss actual numbers.

iPhone 7 Headphone Jack Drill Hack

Please don’t drill a headphone jack into your iPhone 7

By on September 26, 2016 at 9:25 AM.

Please don’t drill a headphone jack into your iPhone 7

I can’t believe I actually have to write this, but here we are. Absolutely don’t try to fix the iPhone 7’s headphone jack problem by drilling a hole where the port used to be. Apple did not leave the internal components in there. You won’t be able to use your 3.5mm headphone jack with a custom made hole.

Instead, you’re going to ruin a very expensive handset. Honestly, I refuse to believe anyone would actually believe Apple would do such a thing in the first place.
