Is iOS 10 faster than iOS 9?
iOS 10 is out and you should be able to install it on any iPhone or iPad made in the past few years. But is it worth upgrading to iOS 10 on older iPhones? Will the new operating system bring[...]
Apple said that iOS 9 will bring performance improvements to all iOS devices, including older models that were slowed down by the iOS 8 update. However, when all said and done, it turned out that iOS 9 wasn’t able to dramatically increase overall speed, no matter how much optimization it underwent.
Various early tests showed last September the initial version of iOS 9 lagging behind the latest stable version of iOS 8. Since then, Apple released a slew of minor update, with the latest one significantly improving overall user experience on old devices such as the iPhone 4s and iPhone 5. More →

In light of this weekend’s massive celebrity photo leak, mobile security is bound to be a major topic of discussion in the weeks to come. With the amount of information we store on our phones, in our email, in cloud storage, we’re always going to be at risk, but there are ways that hackers can get private data from us without accessing any of our devices. Apple’s next-generation iPhone 6 and iPhone phablet are expected to be significantly larger than the company’s current smartphones. Millions of customers will be delighted by the fact that they can now purchase an iPhone with a bigger display, but millions more don’t want a larger smartphone. For them, now may be the perfect time to upgrade their old iPhone 5 handsets — but trading in your iPhone 5 at the Apple Store for credit toward your new iPhone 5c or iPhone 5s is no longer a good idea. We have some good news and we have some bad news. The good news is that FreedomPop, provider of 100% free wireless voice, text and data service now supports Apple’s iPhone 5. The bad news is that the carrier’s free plan is for very, very light users who consume less than 500MB each month, speak in the phone fewer than 200 minutes per month and send and receive less than 500 combined messages.
If you don’t fall into that category, however, you still have some surprisingly affordable options to choose from. More →

Staff sergeant Shaun Frank survived a brutal suicide bombing from just feet away while on tour in Afghanistan, and he has his iPhone 5 to thank. KSL on Tuesday reported on the story of staff sgt. Frank, who stood face to face with a teenage suicide bomber while helping another group of soldiers right a vehicle that had rolled. Apple’s iPhone can do a lot of things, but giving its owner night vision definitely isn’t one of them. In fact, most iPhone models can barely capture a decent photograph in low light, let alone see in a pitch black room. Enter the Flir One iPhone case, which is compatible with either the iPhone 5 or iPhone 5s and features an integrated night vision camera. It isn’t traditional night vision of course, which would be very cost prohibitive. Instead, the Flir One “detects infrared energy (heat) and converts it into an electronic signal, which is then processed to produce a thermal image on your phone screen and perform temperature calculations,” according to Flir’s website. The case will launch this spring and will cost $350.
