Best Buy, Sprint slip-ups suggest Nov. 15 release date for HTC One max [updated]

Bigger is better in the smartphone market these days and while HTC is very late to game in the supersized phablet category, its first offering appears to be a relatively strong one. The company’s HTC One max smartphone features a 5.9-inch 1080p full HD display, a 1.7GHz quad-core Snapdragon 600 processor, an UltraPixel rear camera, 32GB of internal storage, 2GB of RAM, a 3,300 mAh battery and Android 4.3 Jelly Bean under HTC’s new Sense 5.5 software. And according to slip-ups from both Sprint and Best Buy, it looks like the phone will debut this Friday, November 15th. HTC has yet to make any announcements but with both a major carrier and the nation’s top retailer both pointing to the same date, we can likely expect one to come very shortly. More →

HTC announces One Max with 5.9-inch display and fingerprint scanner

HTC on Monday finally took the wraps off of its HTC One Max, the humongous phablet we have seen leak extensively over the past few months. Just as earlier reports suggested, the handset is a bigger version of the flagship HTC One smartphone, which BGR recently called the best Android smartphone in the world. One Max highlights include a 5.9-inch full HD display, a somewhat stale 1.7GHz quad-core Snapdragon 600 processor, an UltraPixel rear camera, a 2.1-megapixel front-facing camera, 16GB or 32GB of internal storage, microXDHC card support for an additional 64GB of storage, 2GB of RAM, a 3,300 mAh battery and Android 4.3 Jelly Bean running under HTC’s new Sense 5.5 software. It also includes an integrated fingerprint scanner for added security, though unlike Apple’s fairly elegant solution on the iPhone 5s that keeps the scanner inconspicuous by embedding it in the home button, the One Max’s scanner is a dedicated panel positioned next to the camera lens on the back of the phone. HTC says the One Max will begin rolling out later this month, though no specific launch date or pricing for the U.S. market have been announced. The company’s full press release follows below along with a video showcasing the new phone. More →

HTC One Max for Verizon pictured in leaked photos

Things have been downhill for HTC ever since its record revenue run in mid-2011. In fact, launching the best Android smartphone in the world seemingly hasn’t even helped get HTC back on track, and the company just posted its first ever quarterly loss. The struggling Taiwan-based smartphone maker will take one last crack at reversing course in 2013 when it launches the much rumored HTC One Max, a phablet version of the sleek HTC One smartphone it released earlier this year. The One Max has leaked several times already, but newly published photos of the phablet from Android Central reveal Verizon Wireless branding, thus firming up earlier rumors that the phablet would launch on Verizon sometime in the fourth quarter. Other rumored HTC One Max specs include a massive 6-inch display with full HD 1080p resolution, a quad-core 2.3GHz Snapdragon processor, up to 64GB of storage, 2GB of RAM and a 3,200 mAh battery. A second leaked photo of the HTC One Max follows below. More →

HTC One Max’s fingerprint scanner seemingly confirmed in new leaked photos

Apple’s next-generation iPhone 5S will reportedly feature an embedded fingerprint scanner that will be one of the phone’s key differentiating features, but it might not be the only top-tier handset on the market with fingerprint scanning technology for very long. A report from last week suggested that the upcoming HTC One Max phablet will include an in-built fingerprint scanner on the back of the device, and new leaked photos seem to confirm the news. The images, published on Wednesday by an ePrice forum member, show not only the cutout on the back of the HTC device for the physical scanner, but also a setting in the phone’s software that includes a fingerprint icon. Other rumored HTC One Max specs include a 5.9-inch full HD display, a quad-core 2.3GHz Snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB of RAM, an UltraPixel camera, a 3,300 mAh battery and Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie. Photo: HTC One Max phablet pictured with embedded fingerprint scanner

It looks like Apple might not be the only smartphone maker preparing to launch a smartphone with an embedded fingerprint scanner. A leaked photo published on Monday by an ePrice forum member claims to show the HTC One Max lined up next to HTC’s One and One mini. In line with earlier reports, the One Max indeed appears to look just like the current One models but much, much larger. What hadn’t previously been rumored, however is the apparent presence of an embedded fingerprint scanner just beneath the camera on the back of the phone. Apple’s iPhone 5S is expected to debut on September 10th with a fingerprint scanner and if this leaked photo pans out, it looks like that potentially great new feature won’t be unique for very long. The leaked photo follows below. More →

HTC One Max’s monstrous size highlighted in new leaked photo

The flagship HTC One Android phone is already larger than many other flagship smartphone models, but HTC’s next big thing seemingly takes “big” to a whole new level. A photo of the HTC One Max leaked for the first time on Monday and while it gave us a good idea of what to expect from HTC’s upcoming phablet, it showed the device alone so we couldn’t really get a good idea of its size. The same person who leaked that photo is back with another shot, however, and this time we can see exactly how giant the One Max really is. More →
