OnePlus 3 vs. Galaxy S7 edge speed test, round 2: What happens when 6GB of RAM is unleashed?

The OnePlus 3 might be one of the best smartphones you can buy without parting with too much cash, but it’s not necessarily the fastest one. Recent real-life speed tests showed that the OnePlus flagship lags behind the Galaxy S7 edge and the iPhone 6s even though it has an outrageous amount of RAM. The OnePlus 3 packs 6GB of RAM, compared to 4GB for the Galaxy S7 edge and 2GB for the newest iPhone.

OnePlus addressed the RAM management following these tests, saying that the phone doesn’t keep too many apps in memory to conserve battery life. That said, some intrepid hackers came up with an unofficial “fix” for the issue, prompting a second speed test comparison.

OnePlus 3 vs. Galaxy S7 edge real-life speed test: Prepare to be surprised

OnePlus 3 vs. Galaxy S7 edge real-life speed test: Prepare to be surprised

OnePlus’s phones have been labeled as “flagship killers” and in 2016 OnePlus has gone further than ever, creating an impressive high-end device that’s priced at mid-range levels. One of the OnePlus 3’s features that immediately stands out is the amount of memory. With 6GB of RAM, the device should be even faster than competing devices that have 4GB of memory or less. But does that 6GB of RAM really offer users a faster mobile experience?

A real-life speed test comparison between the OnePlus 3 and the Galaxy S7 edge answers that question. Samsung has been the one company pushing the industry forward in the RAM department. It kept adding more and more RAM to its devices (even though its flagships were consistently beaten by iPhones sporting much less memory), but now it’s time to see if RAM always translates to a faster user experience. OnePlus 3 vs. Galaxy S7 edge: The specs showdown you’ve been waiting for

OnePlus’s most recent launch has been anything but conventional. The company announced last week that the new OnePlus 3 would go on sale today at 12:30pm EDT, but it didn’t offer any additional information at all. No specs, no images of the phone, and no pricing. In fact, details surrounding the hot new “flagship killer” weren’t even official until 1:00pm today, thirty minutes after the phone went on sale. All that is water under the bridge now though, and the OnePlus 3 is available for purchase for just $399. $399!

OnePlus calls its new phone a flagship killer but can a $400 phone possibly kill any flagships? Now it’s time to find out. More →

Video pits the world’s two best smartphone cameras against each other

Video pits the world’s two best smartphone cameras against each other

By on June 10, 2016 at 1:17 PM.

Only two smartphones have ever managed to score an 88 following DxOMark’s extensive testing. Depending on how you feel about DxOMark, that could certainly be construed as a big deal. The first phone to garner the impressive score was Samsung’s Galaxy S7 edge, which packs what is without question one of the most impressive smartphone cameras the world has ever seen. Then in April, the HTC 10 managed to earn the same score of 88 following the site’s customary battery of tests.

While both of these cameras are fantastic and they were each awarded the same score, they’re certainly not equals across the board. Each phone has its own strengths and weaknesses when it comes to mobile photography, and a recent video showdown does a great job of comparing these two flagship smartphones. More →

Giving away free TVs with each purchase is one way to keep Galaxy S7 sales up

Giving away free TVs with each purchase is one way to keep Galaxy S7 sales up

Samsung shipped more than 81 million smartphones in the most recent quarter, according to market research firm Gartner. The company’s successful flagship smartphone launch was obviously a big driver for Samsung in the first quarter as it enjoyed its fastest profit growth in three years. Samsung’s Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge are clearly the sleekest and most powerful smartphones the company has ever launched, but they also got a helping hand from some serious advertising and marketing campaigns. On top of that, sales were no doubt bolstered by the fact that carriers were offering buy-one-get-one campaigns before the new flagship phones even launched.

If you missed out on a BOGO deal, don’t feel too bad because another nice incentive just popped up. More →

Samsung reports fastest growth in three years following Apple’s big miss

Remember how Apple got a little crafty and bulked up its holiday quarter by playing around with the iPhone 6s launch? Well guess what happened when Samsung shifted its Galaxy S7 launch earlier in the year — you got it, a big performance boost in the first quarter. Hot off of Apple’s first ever quarterly decline in iPhone sales, Samsung reported first-quarter earnings on Thursday morning that showed a healthy 14% rise in profit. The company had strong Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge shipments to thank for the performance boost, which marked Samsung’s strongest profit growth in three years. More →

Pink Gold. Pink Gold, Pink Gold, Pink Gold. Pink. Gold.

Samsung on Wednesday announced that its flagship Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge smartphones now come in a brand new color. And it’s not Rose Gold. We promise. It’s Pink Gold. Pink! Just look at the images below and you’ll see that the color of this phone looks absolutely nothing like Rose Gold, which had only been seen limited-run smartphones until Apple added the color to its iPhone lineup. The new HTC 10 is here, but the Galaxy S7 might still be the world’s best Android phone

Released a few weeks ago, the Galaxy S7 was lauded in reviews, which concluded the phone is Samsung’s best Android handset to date, and one of the best smartphones of the year – if not the best. We noted in our newly published review that the HTC 10 certainly gives Samsung’s flagships a run for their money, but a new report now says that the Galaxy S7 has already been named the best phone in various European markets, including the U.K., France, Spain, Belgium and the Netherlands.
