What it’s like listening to a $50,000 pair of headphones

You may think you’ve got the best headphones in the world. But there’s a good chance that they don’t stack up against the new headphones developed by Sennheiser that cost $50,000 and that were on display this year at CES 2016. Popular tech YouTuber Jonathan Morrison this week posted a video of himself and fellow YouTubers Marques Brownlee and Austin Evans trying out these $50,000 headphones and it sounds like they live up to the hype, even if none of them were really willing to lay down the money needed to actually buy them. The 12 most innovative things we saw at CES 2016

The 12 most innovative things we saw at CES 2016

By on January 8, 2016 at 10:27 AM.

This year’s Consumer Electronics Show isn’t officially over until the end of the day on Saturday but all of the big announcements are behind us at this point. We’re going to level with you: it wasn’t a terribly exciting show overall this year. Last year’s show in Las Vegas was probably the best show in a decade. We quite literally saw the future. But CES 2016 as a whole felt like an “S” upgrade a la Apple’s iPhone — all of the themes and core products were the same as CES 2015.

While the show as a whole was definitely on the slow side, there were still a number of individual products that stood out from the crowd as being truly innovative, and we’ve rounded up our favorites in this article. Some are iterative but significant upgrades of earlier products and some are novel devices that could potentially open new doors, but they’re all exciting.

In other words, if you remember only 12 products from CES 2016, these are the ones to remember. More →

CES 2016 showcases innovative new drones

Drones are more popular than ever at the 2016 Consumer Electronics Show. This year’s show saw a record number of exhibitors at the Unmanned Systems Marketplace, and it looks like the sentiment is shared nationwide.

According to FAA Administrator Michael Huerta, more than 181,000 drones have been registered with the federal government since a database began on Dec. 21st.  “We’re encouraged by the registration numbers we’re seeing so far,” he said, during a speech at CES. More →

My picks for the 10 most promising products unveiled at CES 2016

It’s easy to get really annoyed at big events like CES 2016 because vendors are constantly pitching you to write about products that just aren’t very good. However, this doesn’t mean that CES is totally worthless but rather that you have to filter out the truly promising products from the products that are just a waste of your time. 10 products announced at CES 2016 really caught my eye this year and I think they have the potential to really go somewhere in the coming years. Let’s check them out. More →

Apple Copycats

Let’s pause for a moment to acknowledge all the shameless Apple ripoffs at CES 2016

Let’s pause for a moment to acknowledge all the shameless Apple ripoffs at CES 2016

Apple shares might be getting hammered right now, but that won’t stop the company’s rivals from appreciating all of Apple’s terrific designs. And by “appreciating,” we mean shamelessly and blatantly stealing them and using the same designs for their own products. We’ve seen it happen time and time again — heck, Samsung quite literally wrote the book on copying Apple. But as many times as we see companies rip Apple off, we’re still taken aback by how brazen they can be. More →

EHang 184 Personal Transportation Drone

Forget driverless cars, someone made an autonomous personal transportation drone

Forget driverless cars, someone made an autonomous personal transportation drone

We thought Parrot’s Disco might be the most interesting drone coming out of CES 2016, but there’s one project that’s even more daring. The EHang 184 is a “first-ever autonomous aerial vehicle” that was announced at CES on Wednesday.

That’s right, the drone in the image above can transport actual people – well, one at a time – without a pilot. Considering that retailers are looking to use drones to fulfill same-day deliveries, driverless drones for humans is probably the next logical step. However, don’t expect regulators to allow such products to fly around cities any time soon. More →

Razer Blade Stealth: A sleek ultrabook by day becomes a powerful gaming rig at night

Remember these three words, PC gamers: Blade Stealth and Core. Razer announced at CES 2016 the kind of product many PC gamers may have been waiting for, a powerful and ultraportable laptop that can be transformed into a fantastic gaming rig once the work day is over. It accomplishes the feat with help of a clever accessory.

Picture this: you unplug the Blade Stealth in the morning and head on to work, using the machine as your dedicated Windows 10 work laptop. But when you get back home, you simply connect it to its Core and get on with your PC gaming session. At least that’s what Razer seems to promise, a new kind of gaming laptop that should satisfy the needs of modern gamers who aren’t using Xbox or PlayStation to get their gaming fixes. More →

Nikon and Kodak both unveiled surprisingly intriguing cameras at CES 2016

This year’s CES 2016 show is in full swing in Las Vegas, and while some of the products unveiled during yesterday’s media events weren’t that exciting – I’m looking at you, spectacular fridge with a huge touchscreenother gadgets were definitely interesting. Such is the case with two new products in the photo and video department, coming from Nikon and Kodak.

Mind you, they’re not what you’d expect from either company, but they look impressive. Nikon thinks its ready to take on GoPro and everyone else churning out action cameras these days. Kodak, on the other hand, is going retro with a digital 8mm camera that can shoot video on – wait for it – actual film. More →

Meet the router that will make your home Wi-Fi network 3 times faster

The Consumer Electronics Show is always packed full of wireless routers and other networking gear, so much so that all of the announcements often blend together. Price is often a main focus among manufacturers looking to drive down the cost of Wi-Fi routers, but some big technology advancements are being touted on the show floor in Las Vegas this year as well. The new Talon AD7200 Multi-band Wi-Fi Router from TP-Link is among the most appealing new devices we’ve seen so far, and it will be one of the fastest home routers in the world when it launches in the coming months.
