In 2012, BioWare confirmed that there would be a fourth Mass Effect game. At E3 2014, the game was officially announced and we got our first glimpse at conceptual footage and images. A year later, Mass Effect: Andromeda made its deubt at E3 2015 and at the end of 2016, we finally saw gameplay footage.

It’s been a long journey, but after 4+ years in various stages of development, BioWare finally announced a release date for the highly anticipated follow-up to the Mass Effect trilogy on Wednesday. Mass Effect: Andromeda will launch for PS4, Xbox One and PC on March 21st, 2017.

Mass Effect: Andromeda is our most ambitious Mass Effect game to date,” BioWare said in a blog post. “We’re telling completely new stories, creating new characters, new planets, new species, and introducing new gameplay systems. And for the first time, we’re bringing Mass Effect to the Frostbite game engine, an incredible engine that’s delivering a tremendous graphical jump from the trilogy to Mass Effect: Andromeda. To deliver on this, we’re taking all the time we can to make sure you’re getting the best possible experience.”

We’ve only seen bits and pieces of the game up to this point, but the gameplay trailer BioWare debuted during The Game Awards in December was enough to earn Mass Effect: Andromeda a spot on our list of most anticipated games. This looks like a fascinating evolution over the previous games.

In case you need a refresher, here’s the trailer, in all its 4K resolution glory:
